MMI was was renowned for his adept skills at singing kalpana swarams, neraval, and raga alapana...He, along with his contemporaries Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and G.N. Balasubramaniam, are referred to as the 20th century male trinity of Carnatic music! Apart from Music MMI was so keen on reading Books in English, despite being a school-dropout ; Heard about his anecdote that he would trudge from Mylapore all the way to the Connemara Library in the Mount Road to pick up English novels then! Madurai Sri MaNi Iyer is ever my most favorite singer in Karnatic Music. His birkhas, gamakams, neravals and swarap prasthaaram are great and unique. It is great pleasure to hear his concerts. He was a most humble and simple Viththuwan. Pl enjoy this short concert and many of his other concerts as well. - “Mandakolathur Subramanian”.
The most fragrant "naara ouee". Listen out between 2:40 and 3:10. Some telling theermanams from PMI. Listen out for how PMI hands the charanam to MMI. What a heavenly combination.

Why srabhi alone, any ragam sung by this master is unique. He was not partial in handling any ragam as all are excellent. Struti, laya sudham were consistent with only two persons, they are MMI & MDR.
May be it is not correct to point the errors of famous ones and especially the ones who are no more. But correct diction of the words is equally important. A singer recently sent a recording of her singing of this song and she had sung Choota Murare. As I was not familiar with this keerthana (for whatever reason), I thought it was to do with Mango and Murari. Then I had to look up the details to understand the meaning. Chootamu Raare has a different meaning.
@@shreenathanarayana1512 Yes it is Chutamu Rare- "Oh! Ladies Come along, we will see Rangapati worshipped by Sri Rama". But everyone even today sings as Jutha Murarae or Chutha Murare. Maybe Tala is set like that. Let MMI sing as Jutha. The tranquility, Sugam of Aarabhi, the rhythm and inexplicable joy listening to Master MMI is so fantastic and unparalleled that I see only the Rangapathi. MMI was nada Brahmam. Koti Namaskarams to the Master for giving us the Joy. I must have heard this some 500 times.
