    This is a rare Album. It has depth and complexity, musically and lyrically. It unfurls grand themes and philosophical ideas. There is also rich variety and at no point in the album was I ever bored. In fact, quite the opposite. This album forges an important link between serious/classical music, metal and rock. What singer on the planet can do what Floor does? And Kei's drumming is one of the revelations of the album. Like all great works you discover new things with each new listen. Well done Nightwish! You are an inspiration to all symphonic metal fans.

    Re Pan: I think they're referencing the Greek god Pan. Note that there is a line about entering a labyrinth; one of Floor's favorite movies is "Pan's Labyrinth". Tuomas actually makes quite a few nods to Floor in the lyrics; obviously, he's come to respect her a lot. For example, in "Music", there's a line about joining "the gathering". Now, The Gathering, with Anneke van Giersbergen on vocals, was what got Floor into metal in the 90s, and she's been one of Floor's idols.

      ! Oh ! Thank you, that's great info! I totally forgot about the God Pan... Tuomas said he's incredibly impressed with Floor' s performance so that sounds logical (and he's Damn right!)

    • @mnewm21
      @mnewm21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! although it made me wonder...how funny would it be to walk in to a bar in Kitee and see Tuomas sitting up the back well into a bottle of Nightwish wine and discussing his songwriting. He looks across at you and says "you know you people read so much into my lyrics it is so cool...you make me seem super deep. I write about the Gathering and people decide that I am referring to the band that Floor was influenced by to move into the genre of metal." "I write about music in general and people reinterpret it to be being sung from the point of view of music being an living entity"
      His writing has matured greatly to the point where it is so dense with meaning on both a personal to the band level as well as the broader context of the song that there is food for thought for quite some time if you want to dig in.

    Thank you for this video, yours is probs the best review I've seen till now. It's a great album, one of their best so far. The word that keeps popping up on my mind is "bold". It's not the 'instant gratification' kind of record, it asks for your time and attention to grow on you. Lots of experimentation as well in song structure, vocal melodies, orchestration... And yes, there's at the same time a lot of references to older NW elements. Imo even though it's thematically a successor to EFMB it is a huge step ahead from it. A lot to take in. For me it was worth the wait and I'm loving it.

    • @Fuchswinter
      @Fuchswinter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true. A bunch of songs took a few rounds to really hit home but I think that's what Nightwish has been about for a while... you can't make songs this complex without sacrificing the instant gratification. But imo that's 100% worth it.
      Thanks for the comment!

    I love (!) the album. Procession is my definite favorite, from the moment I first heard it. The reference and continuation to The Greatest Show on Earth on this track is amazing, and I get goosebumps for this one as well ;) aaand, as for unlocking the idea/concept for this album, the word Harvest is in my opinion central. For that I mean harvest as in the end of life, in my opinion the main theme of that song. Like in Procession and Endlessness, the lyrics seems to be referring to the end of humans as a species. Oh, and one line in Noise which I was creeped out about the first time I heard it: "Beyond the human horizon, something terrifying sleeps". Chills! I haven't heard enough on the lyrics for all the songs, but I bet there are similar lines throughout the album. Hope you read this, I would love to hear your opinion :)

    • @Fuchswinter
      @Fuchswinter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! Tuomas spoke about the temporary nature of our species a few times and I feel like it's a recurring theme throughout the entire album - we're only here for a short while but when we're gone there will be more and the things we leave behind are written in music and art. I think that's a beautiful way to see it, and very inspiring to keep creating :3

    Hello, it's a pleasure to listen to you . Your review it was fantastic. After three days of listening, today i wanted most to read the lyrics and see the lyrics videos also and there is a moment who my thoughts said is all right here. They are all having start and finish. I found great messages in this hole album and i believe it's the continued album of EFMB. It the history of our spices to planet earth. With symbolic fraces from Shakpeare or Byron and scientist as Carl Sagan and Ritsard Dockings in the previous album Tuomas want to pass us the message for existing to earth and that's the reason who the first song who wrote it's the possession.Troy said that Harvest has the meanings of the album. The life must pass to the next generations and we must enjoy the life all stars and finish with one single grain bing bang theory.Who we are in earth must pass from generation to generation, music the human needs to enjoy lives to speak from music our experience and the history as well like the ancient ancestors. In tribal reminded me the Babel tower with a lot languages, religion and sinnery who destroyed the tower here planet earth , Abraham cut in three pieces, it means that the three monotheism religions Christian, Islamic and Hebrew have the same Bible and the holly wars in earth going back to humanity. After going to Shoemaker a tribute to scientist with Shekspeare verses from Romeo and Juliet. In how's heart ❤️ we found humanity and love to each other like humans with emotion and empathy like we will must be , opposite the noise of our days,we have been a egoistic spices who care only for money ,our icons and we left from beauty of our nature and finally the endlessness who finish the album an anthem to universe .. enter now here is life. I want to write many more but my poor English didn't help me.
    Now about the music of the album except the lyrics who are majestic, i found in many songs the NW sounds from many previous albums not to much but I heard a lot, Floor sung very beautiful her songs ,very melodic and little operating in music and Shoemaker who found gorgeous. I like operating voice of Tarja and now I'm finding fantastic little operating voice,i missed that after all. I am glad for Troy have his song,he has a great voice and he deserves to have a song by his own. Marco i like also and all the other guys were great. I think it's a great album,i love all the songs because now understand the truth besides them and with power music of NW made them all ❤️ masterpieces.
    You are only the second person who likes his review and and really i think you are the best of all because you are a NW fan and you know the group better and have your opinion as a fan also. Really great review. Thank you.

    NOISE
    HOW IS THE HEART
    HARVEST
    ENDLESSNESS
    PROCESSION
    ALL THE WORKS OF NATURE WHICH ADORE THEWORLD

      Harvest
      Tribal
      How is the Heart
      Shoemaker
      Noise
      Procession
      All the works
      I actually would have really liked Procession as a spoken word over music similar to Ad Astra. I love the lyrics and it is executed really well but the procession nature of the music is boring for the first two thirds. (Only in comparison to the rest of the album!!) Shoemaker is a bit the same for me concept great, lyrics great, execution of first half a bit same same which is not very Nightwish to me. Others say the same about Endlessness but for me it works much better.

So I lowered my expectations to "disappointed", but this new expectation was clearly disappointed. A great album, so fresh, so beautiful and so complex that I almost feel like I don't understand it even though I've heard it in a loop since April 9. Especially with the limitations of language and cultural distance, it made it difficult for me to understand the content of the lyrics. Normaly i like all Nightwish Albums and i like to listen all Albums.
    But Human//Nature is the only Nightwish Album i can't listen....
    Because for me is this Album so weird soft and kitschy....
    Noise is the only Song i like.
    But the outher Songs.... Sorry i don't like them all.
    It's a Symphonic Metal Album, but i search the "Metal" on this Album.
    Endless Forms Most Beautiful was for me a Masterpiece, but Human//Nature is for me unfortunately a Mastersh*t.
    Sorry thats my opinion.
    I am really very surprised that so many Nightwish Fans like this Album and only a few Fans don't like it.
    Of course it is nice when you all have fun with this Album! :)
    But for ME (!!!) is Human//Nature a Symphoinic Metal Album without Metal.....
    But i listen Nightwish because i want listen Symphonic Metal.
    But ok i always was not a huge Fan from the Nightwish soft Songs, for example Sleeping Sun,.....
    But it was ok for me, because on every Album there are not so many soft Songs on it.
    But Human//Nature is full with this soft Songs.

    This album was a complete letdown for me. I've loved this band for so long, but this album just missed and I have to say, it's because of the new band members. Kai is not a good drummer, everything he does is incredibly bland; Jukka is sorely missed here. Troy is starting to get on my nerves, he's great in low dosages, but he is forced into every song and it simply does not work. The outlier is of course is Flor, she is phenomenal.

      I'd argue Kai is a much better drummer than Jukka, at least in the technical sense but Jukka's playing had that real punch to it that he doesn't have (at least with Nightwish anyway). I like Troy and his contributions but not at the expense of sidelining Marco whose been pretty absent from the last 2 albums.
