You can be nice but continue to do the things and hobbies you want that make you happy. If you are attractive you will attract all kinds that's been my experience some will hate you some will love you that's just the way of the world. Just treat them well and if they can't reciprocate it won't be on your conscious. If you have not the energy or inclination for a relationship then don't bother either. If you are a free spirited person and they are too possessive or are not capable of being a friend those are red flags too.
