A Senior engineer(probably 2E) will dedicate a job for you. It's always good to have a pre start meeting, discussion and sort all your doubts so you know what you are supposed to do.
The 4/E would have been at sea a while, he could be in the crankcase with the 3rd or on the tops so quite familiar with pulling a unit. Pre-start meeting, goodness me. Yes, you and you C/C , you and you Tops and the 2nd keeping an eye on whats going on in both places at critical times, plus calibrating the liner, piston, fitting new rings. Cannot say we fitted a spare piston and rod except if piston was badly burnt. What's with all the safety hats and gloves, blooming wimps. If any of those lumps fell on you a safety helmet wouldn't help you. Safety harness in the C/C, gee?
While lowering and aligning piston rod palm with the crosshead, if that distance is not available the stuffing box will sit on the stuffing box gland and we'll have a very hard time lowering the piston(the 4 holes will not align with the crosshead bolts) if the clearance is available, we can move the palm and align it. I hope you get the idea
Removed piston will disassemble, clean, inspect and assemble with new Orings. Then it will hydraustaticaly pressure test to confirm no leakages from seals.
@@_kartik_pandey_1510 roughly 8-15 hrs. Depending on the competency of the crew involved, all goes as per the plan or not. You may end up spending a precious few hours just to lose some frozen part
Depends how many beers you had the night before, usually 2 working days of about 6 hours each, but fewer people. They don't have technicians on ships. They are all Marine Engineers.
Why does it take 4 people to work on the tops. You only need 2, and two in the crankcase. If he is sitting on the X-head then he is safe and doesn't need a safety harness. H&S gone mad.
Nothing like automobiles, no 2 strokes, but same amount of cleanliness when assembling, oiling piston rings, though they didn't check the cylinder lubrication whilst the piston was out.
Can’t get over how massive these engines are Dinesh!!
😊 some people actually would not believe me if I tell them I was sitting on a connecting rod inside an engine.
Sailor Man 😂😂❤️
😁😁
You said placing a piston ring while taking out the wear ridges, and measuring the wear ridge. Can you please explain this part
Placing an old piston ring is just a precautionary measure to avoid any damages to the liner during grinding off the wear ridge.
Sir what will be the role play for fresher 4th eng when this type of majour over hauling is going on board he have to assist or he need to work

if distance piece is not there to hold stuffing box what would happens?

how many hours make dat engines before rebuild
What will you do with the piston which is removed?
What process and how
Removed piston will disassemble, clean, inspect and assemble with new Orings. Then it will hydraustaticaly pressure test to confirm no leakages from seals.
Any vaccancy for technician
How much time does it take for 1 piston hauling?
You mean unit decarb job (like this one) ? or only piston O haul?
Whole unit
