Agree about hinderer not being a slicer in any configuration. Not sure about the tip strength comparison on the new strider vs old strider. Never owned a strider because the older versions kind of suck 😂. But I have had a hinderer, and it’s a multi tool. Prybar, knife. I have used it to punch holes through wood to run cable, opened cans. even torture tested it. The lock held up great. Can e en tell I really used it. It’s a pocket survival knife.

Totally agree. Strider QC sucks--even the most recent runs. Hinderer excels at QC and proper lock geometry. You can reprofile to 40* inclusive and have it slice as well as an SnG any day.

I use my Hinderer to pry open manhole covers. Sold all my XM-18s. Bought a Firetac for cutting ability, then sold it. I own a couple investigator pens, though.

Someone 3xplain the logic behind having a sharpening choil on a blade that already has a massive finger choil. Not only does it waste blade space but becomes a pita that grabs your cutting medium. I hate the damn things.
I cannot believe that knife enthusiasts haven't asked this question. It's such a giant weakness.

On the strider its to remove a stress point to make the blade stronger.

@@neroknives1828 I don't see how just having the edge run straight to the finger choil would 8ntroduce a stress riser. Thanks for your super fast reply.
Let's just say, on a balance of probabilities, I think it causes more real world grief than lessening blade stock failures.

@@schlooonginatorr9766 yea the argument is there if it's for you or not. But to say it doesn't Serve a purpose is incorrect. Ill be doing a review of the sng soon, ill talk about it them. But to hit on it real quick, the way strider does the choil's is the strongest way i know of currently on the market.
A sharp corner is a stress point in steel. Take spyderco for example. That hard corner will snap with lateral force. Next would be hinderer, no sharp corner, but larhe chunk of blade removed for finger choil. Next strider. Room for finger, but left at 100% original stock thickness, then gradual plunge to reduce stress, and not come up as high as the finger choil, meaning more cross section removed. Very smart design, may not be for everyone. But i personally enjoy it.

@@schlooonginatorr9766 i more so enjoy it because of the added comfort it offers. Its by far hands down the most ergonomic finger choil ive ever found. I don't think its possible to make one more comfortable. The other bigger benefit i enjoy is the added control it offers. Of core the cost is blade length. But i am willing to Trade the cutting edge for those benefits, atleast on this knife. I wouldn't want all my knife to do it, but i think some others could benefit from it

@@neroknives1828 I like finger choils and agree with you on that point, they make great ergo use of any knife, it's small sharpening choils I dislike and find to be a waste of space on a balance of negs/Pos to what they offer. I just am not seeing blade failures from a lack of sharpening choils.

Blade replacements are not an option on Hinderer knives but has always been an option with Strider knives if the blade has been sharpened to the point of needing to be replaced or broken due to hard use. Between the top 3 (CRK, Hinderer and Strider) Hinderer is the only one that does not offer blade replacements. Even if you have to pay for a new blade like with CRK at least its an option. Hinderer states that its because each lock bar is fit to the blade, yet CRK and Strider both have Ti frame locks with the blades fit to the lock bar. The new Hinderers with lock bar inserts it would seem there is less excuse to not offer this service to their customers. Not necessarily a bash on Hinderer but I can't understand the reason behind it when both CRK and Strider offer this service.

I love my Strider. If the SHTF I would grab it as my folder segment representative knife. It is so ugly (like, high school shop class ugly|) but they fit the hand so perfectly. I love mine. I left out Chris Reeve because of the severe hollow grind. I know it’s not going to break but it just feels like it will.

Does your newer SnG have lock-rock? Just bought a new M. Strider SnG and it has lock-rock. I own an M. Strider DGG and an older slant grip SnG that are solid. I haven't found a Hinderer with lock-rock. Hinderer come with 55-60 degree inclusive edge bevel from the factory. I have mine reprofiled to 40 degrees inclusive on the Wicked Edge. Makes all the difference in the world. Edge geometry is everything.

hinderer would be much better in a STRIKE type hit because of a thick edge. for example like hitting a branch, bone, or whatever with a swing. Im prone to like striders better but in "battering" situations thick edge stronger from chipping.

When you do hard work with any tool ment for hard use you wear gloves. Plus he was a firefighter and wanted to make a good knife for the job, fire fighters use gloves so the heavy jimping makes sense. Just sayin, Good video. I love my Xm18 6gen slicer and its slicey.

Reprofile the hinderer to 40 inclusive and itll slice like crazy...I have done so on 5 of my hinderers and they came out great! Overall hinderer is 1 of my favorite brands , the knives are so well made and built beautifully very rugged yet refined.
Overall quality control through me off strider years ago, had too many issues from my sngs to smfs...ended up selling them all and stuck with CRK and hinderer ..between these 2 all your needs are met.
I may try out a new hinderer SnG but not at the current prices they r going for on the 2ndary market. I am interested to see how the new striders feel.

@@neroknives1828 Since posting, I was able to score myself a new M.Strider SnG -- flamed Ti / tiger stripped blade / black indus. handle scale
Absolutely love it... They HAVE come a long way ... way better than the old knives they use to make years ago.
I have been EDCing it daily for over a month now and love it... Never has it been too much knife or too little, it falls in to that sweet spot for me personally.. I havn't reached for the hinderer or sebenza since ... this SnG seems to be a jack of all trades...its a tank yet can slice amazingly well too... couldn't ask for much else..
Not getting rid of my hinderers / Chris reeve knives.. but this has been a SOLID addition to my collection...
Next I want to score a new SMF and check that out!... I think it'll be the perfect work knife for me...

I think hinderer excels on handle construction. Not only is it more comfortable to hold, but Striders just have that external lockbar hitting g10. Hinderer has a liner under that g10. So Hinderers are actually made better. And now with the triway pivot system, Striders are just mehhhh.....

    • @r2d2skate
      @r2d2skate 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have both and i think while the hinderers ergonomics are more "comfortable" the SnG is a much more secure and versatile grip, it excels in any grip and any cutting/stabbing motion. I also think the triway pivot system is kind of a gimmick that creates problems.
