I upgraded my monitor and now I am trying to find a better option for sound. The Astro adapter is only able to support 4K/60hz or 1080/120hz, it will not support 1440p/120hz or 4K/120hz. Which has caused an issue for me as I upgraded my monitor to play at 120hz at 1440p… so now what? There is only 1-2 hdmi 2.1 adapters out there and they cost $120-$130, or I buy a usb optical Dac converter but won’t be able to use doubly 5.1 or 7.1… pretty much it screws my audio performance to have a better visual display. And the only way around it costs north of $100 after spending $500 on a PS5, $300 on a headset and amp, and $500 on a new monitor, that’s the choice you are left with… it sucks and Sony/Astro need to design their products to be More compatible moving forward. This is mostly on Sony for not including a optical port which is the best way to relay sound…. It just doesn’t make sense.

Good tips! The things that bug me about the PS5 right now are the lack of Dolby Atmos support, no VRR, and the expansion SSD slot isn't able to be utilized. Luckily the last two are temporary. Well, actually you can simply connect any headphones to the aux port on the back of your TV. This will work as well. I always prefer the 3.5mm jack over everything else. The PS5 is sending the audio signal to your TV/Monitor via the HDMI cable. Then obviously you can use the TV speakers for audio. But what else can you do? Connect anything to the TV itself, like I said, via the 3.5mm jack, aka aux cable. That way you can connect any headphones, headsets, and most stereo speakers. No need for additional optical cables, audio extractors, etc. You might need an optical cable to connect a soundbars to your TV, but then again, there are some workarounds for this. For example using Bluetooth connection, if your TV has one.

Right? It is surprising that people are surprised that the optical out is going away. Toslink hasn't been updated since the early 2000s, it is obsolete tech at this point. 2 decades...
HDMI can provide much higher audio bandwidth and metadata with ARC and eARC. At best, toslink can only do 5.1 compressed, while HDMI can go up to 7.1 uncompressed with Dolby Audio.

    • @tituslafrombois1164

@@Rainoffire fr. I think it's just a marketing thing tbh, people think "a cable that uses light is cool, and I know light is fast so that must mean optical audio is better"
When really it's using light to send the exact same signal as a normal wire, just with flashing lights instead of electrical impulses. More points of failure, arguably easier to interfere with, etc.
Optical cable only makes sense in cases where low latency across VAST distances is the top priority (see: fiber internet), using it for consumer audio in 2020 is just downright hilarious. The things placebo will do to people I swear. I once saw a dude who would buy CD's, rip them to WAV, "upscale" those WAVs to like 192khz 24-bit, burn them to blu-ray, and play that from his "hi-fi blu ray player" because he insisted it sounded better.

I didn't realize anyone still used optical outs. Sound quality is lower than HDMI and it's a extra cable to do cable management with. I didn't realize headphones sometimes use optical cable which would be an improvement over the audio cable as long as you're careful not to break it. What is annoying is there are limited USB connections (3 USB A and 1 USB C total). I connected my PS 5 to the PSVR which requires 2 USB A ports and then tried to connect an external HHD but the slower USB A on the front won't accept it. I ended up needing to use the USB C (also on the front) fir my external HHD which looks bad and gets in the way.

Side note - if you can only use a AUX cord to connect high end headphones I recommend buying a $10 ground box off Amazon to delete any sorry buzzing noises. It’s a box with wire aux input and male aux output.....

Dang thank you for clarifying that the Astro adapter doesn’t take away from playing Cold War @ 120. STOKED!

Isn't toslink on the way out because of its limited bandwidth?

Should I use my ps5 controller via usb cable (wired) or Bluetooth? On the PS4 Bluetooth was faster is it the same?

Good vid but how would you do this on the astro a50 without the adapter?
