- Let me take you on a tour of the Louisville area and show you my personal top five favorite pizza places. I will also show what sets them apart from the rest and why you should put them on your hit list. All the pizza joints are family owned and operated. Support local!!
There was a pizza place on Poplar Level Rd called Guy's Pizza, since closed. The pizza was the best in town. Loaded with toppings and a crispy crust. In the 60's and 70's they had a man playing a piano with a screen projector with the words of each song so you can sing along with the bouncing ball. It was a special deal to go there since we didn't go out to eat that much. At times several families on our street would go at the same time. Good times!
That does sound like great memories. My family and all my parents friends and kids use to go to Village Inn Pizza in Hikes point.

Oh yeah Bonnie and Clydes!....luv a thin crust impervious to gravity!!!! Very impressive!!! And totally appreciate the mom and pop ownership...doing the decades RIGHT!!! Keep the history alive :)

Indy boy here, love your show. If you get to Indianapolis southside/Greenwood area, check out Bob's to You Door pizza. They've been a staple for 30 plus years, for a reason.. yummy stuff

I live near Tinseltown my wife is buried in Bethany by Dixie Highway and the Snyder when I visit her I frequently stop in at Bonnie and Clyde and get their Special Mini size and it is more than enough for one person it is very good and a great value. I have been wanting to try the Italian Pie but the hour wait put me off next time I am going to try it.

Try Corner Pizza on Murphy Ln across from the Ford Truck Plant. We always get the meat lovers. Best we’ve had.

Try danny macs- my favorite in town! Boars head meat, great quality cheese. None of the orange grease, but a cheese pull for days!
They had a reuben pizza for st pats, it was FIRE!

I remember Shakey's it was delicious pizza . I miss Shakey's a lot. All the Shakey's are in California. My favorite Pizza restaurants are The Post ,Impellizza, Derby City. 👏🏼🇺🇸💯🍕☝️❤

Sauce is not on the bottom and no corn meal in the crust. It’s awesome. So you’re one of those guys people hate seeing show up to pizza night at age friends house also?!! Lol!!
Believe it or not Bubba's 33 has some of the best pizza in the area (crust, sauce, and cheese is a 10) and Pizza King on Charlestown, Rd - New Albany, has one of the best sausage and onion pizzas in the area. Of course now we all know how good Bonnie & Clyde's onion. fresh mushroom and Home made sausage pizza is!

As a NYCer born and bred, the pizza AF looks the most authentic NY style pizza. Mr. Goodall, you ever tried Neapolitan pizza? 😊
Yes. Neapolitan is usually on the fancy side but I like it ok as long as the ingredients are blue collar.
Try pizza donisi. Ny style Artisan. If you plan on going to the St.James art fair coming up (which you should) stop by.

Big guys? Hey, we Big Girls are dying to try that cast iron pie. Another great review. Going to have to try this diet be damned! Legacy has been my pizza joint since they opened. The curbside, the delicious pizza and sandwiches are the best!

Never been to any of these except Bearnos. Our faves are the Post, Lupo and Perso.
Great video! FYI, in Chicago they call it "tavern style" when thin crust pizza is cut in squares.

Mister G, give Mimo's Pizzeria New Albany a look. Hands down the best NY style in the area coming from a born and raised Jersey boy. You have to try the plain cheese pizza to see what an excellent baseline pie they are cooking up. I also recommend the italian sausage which is sliced thin rather than crumbled.

Lived in Louisville area all my life and not one of those would make my top 4 list. Wicks, Impellizzeri, LouLou, and Hometown.
That’s why everyone’s opinion are subjective, hence the title “MY” Top Five Pizza Joints. I will agree though Wick’s and Lou Lou are very good.

Impellizzeri is now totally Franchised. The last old school Impellizzeri pizza left when Tony Impellizzeri retired last year and shut down his store in new Albany.

I saw a twinkle in his eye, I haven't seen since our honeymoon night. Not kidding. The mans eyes glazed over, head shook left to right in disbelief. Ive never seen that look in 20 + yrs. WTH? No joking. I mean, this man looked beyond in love. Over pizza. Good grief!.
As for me, its Bearnos all the way. Sausage and mushroom. ( used to be mama bearnos before salt restricted.) And no, any pizza isnt great for that, but hell, you do what you do
I do have to say it was pretty good. I feel so bad you can’t partake in any of that.😭

DCP is overpriced thin crust.
Y’all don’t know nothing about that best kept secret in pizza bliss! The infamous Italian pie at Bonnie & Clyde’s. A 2 inch thick masterpiece cooked in layers, in a cast iron frying pan. Why this isn’t more well known is a mystery to me. It takes over a hour to make a large, so if you want one, call ahead. Oh and heads up. They only accept cash.
Where is the pizza sauce in that pie. Looks wonderful I will definitely go try Bonnie and Clydes . Thanks for the video

Detroit style or nothing. I know as I am a Detroiter so my only option in Louisville, while I know it is a chain, is Jet's. The best crust around.

Absolutely agree with Jet’s! Amazing thick crust Detroit style pizza. Add some boneless wings with sweet chili sauce and the feast is underway. 🍕🍕

ARNIES PIZZA in New Albany is well worth amention. I think they have some of they greatest tasty pizzas around the area I give them 5 stars.

I second this statement. The one in Floyd's knobs is the one that shut down. It's a lot like pizza kings but better in my opinion.

All the pizzas "looked" great to me except the slices, but I'm just going by looks & what I generally like.

Hi Barry what was the former Check's Cafe that was in the East End? I believe you did a review but they changed their name and not sure if they are still in business? I think they still had some of the Check's menu items?
Checks BBQ & Blues. I liked it at one time. Different owners but same bbq.

What’s the status of wicks pizza these days in you opinion?. I walked into the Baxter ave location recently and thought the place looked like a greasy decrepit dirty dump. Would not dare eat there being afraid to catch a dreaded disease from the clientele
I’ve never been in that location. Went to the old Middletown location for drinks at the bar from time to time.

A deep dish pizza cooked in a cast iron chicken fryer, it don't git no better n' that. I lived in NYC and Staten Island for many year, unfortunately, and I had my share of pizza. I also spent some time in Italy and Sicily, I had my share of pizza there too! The pizza in Italy, and the food in general, was a little different than here, and much better.
Going to Sicily is on my bucket list.

I am also from Staten Island, I agree with you as I have had Pizza over in Italy. And yes everything Italian is different there

Well, it all ends up in an incredibly hot oven. I'm sure any concerns are alleviated by that. Lots of pizza places hand toss their dough anyway.
