    • @danniluxgarbe429
      @danniluxgarbe429 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@mistertea603 putting it more simply, when they started making 'laws' in England, they recognized that they needed an upper bounds on how far apart an event and a death had to be, and pegged it at 'a year and a day', likely due to remaining mysticism as suggested by El Bruce.
      So, for example, if someone threw a rock at my head and I didn't wake up, but I was still breathing until a year and a day AFTER they threw the rock, they would be found NOT GUILTY.
      similarly, in the modern era, if that same rock was thrown at my same head, with modern medicine, my coma could, depending on why, exactly, I was in the coma, be extended for years. My family would have to choose if they let me die so my attacker faces murder/manslaughter charges, or does he skate on a lesser charge because I am not dead? This is why that bit of common law no longer applies in many jurisdictions: it forces families to choose between hope and vengeance.
