    you saying "its stopping not stop" makes so much sense to me. I always think I'm supposed to stop immediately but when I try that my body weight goes all over the place and I fall or come close to it. but now I realize I should be focusing on shifting my body weight down to cut speed instead before trying to stop. thank you so much this is super helpful

    Practice practice practice! It's good to remember that everyone learns in their own pace. Some people get it right away and others (like me) need hundreds of repeats before getting something. I almost lost my faith in learning transitions this summer but I took time to repeat the motions a million times in one session and I finally got it. What a wonderful feeling it was! But sometimes it's a bit discouraging to be a slow learner.

    Thx you so much, I’m 40 and just started to skate but the idea of “emergency stop” terrified me. You totally reverse my mind saying “it’s about controlling speed as driving”. I’m fascinated by your lessons, you’re a great teacher.

    I wanted to learn how to stop or at least move out of the way kind of like dodging because people who know how to skate like to cut me off just doing my thing and I usually get scared and lose my balance which makes me fall or lose my skating motion, so thanks Deb!! ❤

    I grew up a rink rat in the 70’s (my moms idea of a babysitter❤️😎). Never could afford lessons or my own skates back then so I learned the hard way (stuffing my feet in used skates & running into stuff to stop) and loved everything about it. I’m 57 now and my 4 kids have flown the coop so I’m excited to get back at it again.
    These videos have given me back my confidence to go for it! Very grateful for your time & enthusiasm❤🎉🛼

      Shup up 😜 I swept 100m street at my in-laws place and had a blast 🤣 after one week of skating I can say that skating indoors feels like skating on ice, skate park feels like skating on syrup, pavement feels like thicker syrup, pavement with debris feels like skating in stilettos while hiking, so DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO! 💚 Skating while holding a broom actually feels beneficial if one has difficulty with non-visual balance reception 🤗

    • @OG_Beckie_Leigh
      @OG_Beckie_Leigh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay! I’m glad others are thinking this too. I work in an oilfield office, and I wore my skates at the office while I worked today. I swept around my desk first just because the floor was gritty. However, when I went into the shop area, I was constantly looking around for debris on the floor since my guys don’t know how to use a trash can or broom. I was trying to decide whether I want to bring my heavy duty push broom to work with me tomorrow. I’m sure there’s a push broom in the shop, but I’m picky and always bring my own cleaning supplies to clean my area. 😂😂😂😂

    • @emmao6578
      @emmao6578 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I feel like an idiot now for never even thinking to sweep the road in front of my house I've been using to skate on. I've just been going along thinking "oooo this is a bit gritty and dangerous today, couldn't possibly be anything I could do to improve that" 🤦‍♀️

    Thank you for these videos! I went skating recently for the first time in like 20 years and I remembered how much I loved it. I watched some of your videos before I went to refresh my memory and without that I wouldn't have felt so ready to go again, you're a great teacher. I wiped out a few times and learned that I want to wear pads until I'm more stable on skates, better safe than sorry, but when I got up I knew what I did wrong and how to correct it. I can't wait to go again despite the wounds. I've even been looking at buying skates so I don't have to rent and I can practice at home, because I want to go more!

    I'm really using the information in these video tutorials. I'm grateful for the realistic, truly helpful information - I haven't skated in 40 yrs but, bc of Dirty Deborah, I was able to gain my balance last night & skate for several minutes in a row without falling or using an aid to help keep me upright & moving! But also, this is the first time I've heard anyone give skaters permission to use whatever is necessary & helpful, like a wall, to stop safely. I'm currently skating on my back patio & use my gas grill & a palm tree as bumpers to help me stop while I get the hang of my Cardiff skate breaks. Thank you Dirty Deborah from the east coast!
    P.S. My new outdoor roller skates coming Monday...

      @@Dirtydeborahharry Hi Dirty Deborah, I'd like you to know a few things bc we never know who's seeing our videos & the effect(s) we can have when we "put ourselves out there":
      #1 I lost my job last July & one month later my best friend, my dog Bugsy, died. We did everything together for 15 yrs. We walked, hiked, traveled, cuddled, ate,, shopped & worked together...my world revolved around Bugsy. Everything was designed to serve his happiness. His life was my life, he made everything better - he kept me moving & tethered to the world. We were devoted to each other & suddenly, after 15 yrs, he was gone.
      #2 Although I'd always been a physical beast (weight lifting, martial arts, grappling, competitive sparring; long-ish distance, year-round hiking, etc), till I had a few accidents & developed a rare neurological disorder called RSD/CRPS. Bc of the illness, I've been losing the ability to walk far or work out.
      #3 I am, by nature, a happy to be a left alone "loner", but after the political & social landmines tossed at us over the last 4 yrs & the other events listed above...I'd become mentally, emotionally & physically completely burnt out. I lost my drive, my stubborn lion heart, & any happiness I had left but then one day I started thinking "I want to re-learn to skate" so I picked up a used pair of Cardiffs & tried to figure out skating, on my own, but wasn't having much success. Then I found YOUR videos.
      Skating & YOUR videos have given my heart, my soul life again. The information you share has not only helped me to understand what I've been doing wrong but, more importantly, what to do RIGHT so I can become a successful skater. My focus, drive & excitement are back - it's a long-term project that requires determination to tackle. I'm building muscle, losing fat, & spending less time binging on Netflix or podcasts. I'm a painter & the videos have given me fresh eyes & new ideas to work with again. Even better, skating can be a solitary sport - something I can do alone but, at the same time, with your videos...I'm not alone AND I never skated with Bugsy so it doesn't make me sad.
      I want to say "thank you" - if I were out in your neck of the woods I'd be in your roller rink taking lessons but, for now, I'm the stubborn, 57 yr old, east coast, balls to the wall, cripple-y lady who's determined to give life (& the world) the middle finger again.
      Now, my thought is: "can't walk?? SKATE!!!". THAT's what you've done for me....thank you.
      P.S. I'm replacing the Cardiffs with real roller skates. Head up, snack area tight, knees bent - they're coming Monday!

    Sooooo important for outside, I taught my brother and all we did was practice slowing down first day. On inlines though, but going down a hill we can’t bail off our wheels like a skateboarder can

    My mom got me a new pair of skates from Pigeons skate shop. I grew out of my old ones. That weren't good quality anyway. I got a sticker with the skates too! Decorated my helmet with it lol.
