      When Walt said, "It's your fault" to Skylar, what he is really saying is "I am the tyrant in charge, who never eccepts any blame" to the cops listening in.
      And Hell, he didn't call Skylar a bitch durring their knife fight. He's never going to say that to her really. That was for the cops.

      I completely agree about Skyler recognizing that Walt was trying to save her. Watching Skyler's face when Walt called her a b****, you could see she's sort of gasped internally then decided to play along by saying I'm sorry and saying it very meekly.

      @@bobbilm3035 What's really crazy it's that, when you think about it... Walt must've come up with the whole cops listening in on the phone call plan in like a split second after Walter Jr. called the cops. Because the only reason he took Holly in the first place is because it was a necessary part of the plan to make Skyler look innocent. He came up with that plan with the quickness!

  • @axelbaker8737

    I’m sure everyone is already saying this, but that whole phone call was a move by Walter. He was trying to take the heat off of Skylar by making himself seem like a dangerous, threatening, abusive asshole that forced her into his meth dealings. That’s why Walt was crying so hard.

    when Walt is begging for hanks life he says: "theres no cavalry, the DEA doesn't know about this".... and meanwhile, Hank says: "you bet your ass the cavalry is coming".... Walt really messed up there big time. He pretty much told Jack that if he kills Hank, nobody else will ever know. i always wondered how it would've played out if Walt didn't say that, Jacks crew might've just fled before the rest of the DEA got there

    • @doccalis3150
      @doccalis3150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The thing is, jacks crew would of nvr let hank live no matter what was said. They weren’t about to have a DEA loose end alive. No matter what hank or Walt said they were going to kill him. Hence why hank says u are too stupid to see that he made up his mind 10 minutes ago

    • @billnye2112
      @billnye2112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@doccalis3150 I do agree, more than likely you're probably correct that Hank was never getting away. its such a weird thing for Walt to not pick up on though. That was Walts specialty: to exploit leverage in any situation. He had a shred of leverage there but overlooked it in his desperation.

    • @paulbabcock2428
      @paulbabcock2428 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah. That is an interesting what if. Tho Jack's crew were in too deep at that point for there to be any way they cojld let Hank go.
      Walt doesn't give a shit about Gomez, so for him Gomez' death wasn't that big a deal. But it mattered to Hank, and Jack had just killed a DEA in front of an ASAC DEA. So at that point Hank's death was inevitable regardless of any calvary.

    Just the fact that this episode is called Ozymandias in itself makes it hit so much harder. The poem "Ozymandias" theme being about the forces of mortality and flexibility, that will wear down and destroy all our lives. A person, once famous and respected who has since been utterly forgotten and how all power is temporary, no matter how prideful or tyrannical a ruler is, ties perfectly with the show and the episode. When they killed Hank, The way Walt fell on the sand like the fallen emperor "Ramses The Great" from the poem and Walt stating a couple episodes before to Jesse that he is in the "empire business" is just perfect. I can go on and on, the writing and planning that must've had to go for this episode alone is insane.

    the retrospection scene which opened the episode was THE LAST scene filmed for the whole show xD
    so that bryan and aaron could grow their hair naturally, not to use any wigs or shit
    and yest, vince and the writers didn't know at all when and how the show is going to end. besides season 2, where they knew how they want to end it, they've been writing all the other seasons not knowin exactly where are they heading
    Yes, Jesse was supposed to be killed in season 1, but aaron paul made a big impression on vince and also his chemistry with bryan was too good, so they changed their mind
    Overall Vince Gilligan always says that they just wanted to show "how mr chips is turning into scarface", that is all they knew and they let the story evolve naturally :)

    I swear I posted that prediction a year or few befor this episode came out on somebody's video. And it is the prediction I am most proud of. Tho I have no idea where now.
    And I loved your explanation for why he did it, Formal. With Jeese mad at him, Walt needn't feel as guilty over what he did. I hadn't thought of that.
    And I liked your take on how disappointed you were in Skylar giving Walt up so quickly. I generally took Skylars side since Walt had Jeese kill Gale, and I saw her as the primary influence keeping Walt ftom being a complete even bigger. monster. But on that point props to you.

Here's what I think...I've seen interviews with the writers, and they are some of the most intelligent people I've ever heard connected to the TV industry. Vince just encouraged them to do the coolest things they could think of and then they'd figure out a way to get out of it later. 55:11: So it's been minute, but:
    (01.) By all accounts, the only time the writing staff on "Breaking Bad" ever worked toward a predetermined ending was in season four when they knew they wanted Hector Salamanca to trigger a bomb that would assassinate Gus Fring. They hadn't worked out the circumstances surrounding that event (or why Hector and Gus hated each other to begin with), but they knew that was how they wanted Gus to die. Everything else on the show was made up more or less on the fly. As near as I've been able to figure out, there over all strategy is to write a given episode of the show, and then try to figure out what the next most logical place for the story to go is, based on what just happened to the character. So, while they don't plan a lot of the story out in advance, they do heavily review the things they've already written and then build on what's been introduced.
    (02.) Because "Breaking Bad" was aired on a basic cable channel and not a broadcast network, the production was able to complete an entire season of the series prior to it being shown on television. So not only was the flashback in this episode not filmed during season one, it's actually the very last sequence put to film during the production of "Breaking Bad".

    Come on Formal. You didn't get that on the phone Walt was going on like that intentionally so as to do his best to get Skylar off the hook? Skylar got it and so she played along.
    Walt said just about everything in THE exact manner to put it all on himself and take it off Skylar so as to sell to the cops the fiction that he threatened and forced an her to do his bidding all along. That's not true. But it was all Walt could do at the time.

  • @joserascon8670
    @joserascon8670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think walt talked like that on purpose bc he knew the cops were at his house and listening, so he probably talked like that to Skyler so that she could seem innocent to the cops I'm guessing

    What was Skyler supposed to do? Given that she did believe Walt was in custody, Marie was right, there was no way Junior wasn't gonna find out everything. And it pains me to agree with Marie cuz I can't stand her, LOL That said, overall you have probably had the most balanced, objective commentary on Skyler I've seen from any male reactor. I just finished watching someone who talked s**t about her every single video and harped on her affair 100 times more than he did any of the TRULY unforgivable stuff Walt did. It was such a turn off that I have no interest in watching any of his other videos.

      I think people see some things too black and white. I mean cheating is bad, don't get me wrong, but once she cheated I think people just hated her. I felt like I hated Ted more because of that situation, so I never really went to the negative side of how I saw Skylar as a character.

    • @taneshah.1260
      @taneshah.1260 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FriendRequestReviews Agreed. And I still maintain that it was barely cheating. Skyler had checked out of the marriage, but he refused to sign the papers. Then to add insult to injury, he wouldn't even do her the solid of leaving the house, when he was, in fact, putting his family in danger. And even if you don't agree that it wasn't cheating, cool. You're entitled to your opinion. But no reasonable person believes it was worse than all the shit Walt did.

    I was marathoning your reactions to breaking bad and bcs, but I had to come back here to say a lot of people blame Walt for everything, but if you look at a lot of the things he did he didn't have much of a choice (either he did it or he and jesse are dead), there is also the fact that jesse, skyler and even hank got in the way a lot, whether directly or indirectly, but of course some choices were purely out of ego, but many were because of the things I wrote above...

    Everyone loves this episode but it’s where they lost me. There’s NO WAY Jack would let Walt live much less give him a barrel of money in real life. No matter what Todd thinks.

    • @FriendRequestReviews
      @FriendRequestReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm going to have to disagree. This is my first time watching, and what I got from that is Uncle Jack seeing the value in Walt. Idk what Nazi Jack and the crew were doing prior to meeting Walt, but I feel that his income has increased significantly since meeting him, even secured a nice lil meth business connected to the Czech Republic. Letting Walt live, and leaving him a lil money behind was another power move in my opinion.
