Interesting topic and video. I've enjoy reading the content on your website as well. With panel videos, consider normalizing the audio a bit, i.e., increasing the gain for audience questions or when panelists are talking without the mike. Would help the viewer not have to frequently tinker with the volume control.

It depends on the product. If you have a product which requires development on how it will interact with human emotions, such as a robotic dog, use ID. If you have a cell phone case which needs to look different than the other 100 cell phone cases, use ID. If you have a product which solves a problem and needs to be functional, use ME firms. Our strategy is "fast to functional". BTW: Mold making efficacy increased because 1. Coated variable flute endmills which handle higher feedrates 2. Constant contact/constant load HSM CAM toolpaths 3. Faster controller hardware to huck the CNC mass around much faster. We take advantage of this technology in our mechanical development process everyday. We can get creative and test a lot of mechanical solutions in the real world. Form follows functionality. When the product works functionally and the BOM is below cost making it look good is not too difficult. It certainly a lot easier than the other way around.

An engineer can be a designer but a designer can't be an engineer

No, concept does not equal design.

i would say cocept in terms of cars is a first hand manufacturing of a car with a design that is made by the designer with improvements

It's corelated like software and hardware.. doesn't matter how beautiful ur idea is if it's not functioning it's not producable/profitable/markatable by common sense. In other word rather than contrary Both r complementary to each other.

design is presentation, concept is idea and engineering is functionality. A good concept design could be all put together.
