You are my hero when it comes to overlanding, I have done 11 countries in Africa and 15 in Europe since I started watching your videos way back. Thank u Dan.
"Iceland starts now." Music to my ears. Build has been really fun to watch but it's nothing compared to the videos of the adventure. Hope you've been having a lot of fun so far.
I had already guessed what country you were going to. Glad to hear your Jeep and that all made it. When I shipped my jeep I had to pull the radio out going and on return trip. Unfortunately a RORO ship. I had to leave it at 1/4 tank of fuel or less. But fortunately it was close to 1/4 tank. On way out it was from E. St. Lewis IL. side then back to N. Carolina. My only choice if or when doing that again is in shipping container. The saltwater spray covered everything with a corrosive film. Best wishes for you and family.
Having done this with the help of an agent in Cartagena, I think you glossed over how hard it can be to get that paperwork done in the destination country when you don't speak the language and are not part of their culture. I understand on a limited budget that your way is desirable, but I recommend one uses a quality agent like Overland Embassy when the budget constraints aren't tight.
I did it myself in Cartegena. Yes, it took a bit of effort, but it was worth it for the money I saved. I paid $777 USD final price to ship from Colon to Cartengena. (though that was a while ago). You're right though, every port and destination and shipping deal around the world is different. Some are very easy, some not.
You are just such and inspiration. Make it so calm. After reading your two books on The Road Chose me I built my car and got going in Africa. Yet to do the shipping bit.
My Promaster van fits in a 40 foot high cube with the rooftop a/c removed. I did not enjoy driving it in either from the bed of a tow truck. My shipping agent cleared my van for the TIP and insurance which saved me hassles. Good video.
Iceland is just magnificient! I've seen these beautiful landscapes and will be rejoyce to see it again in your videos. It really looks like the begining times of the world. The diesel is very expensive but at 90 km/h top speed on the main roads you don't burn too much either.

Also use the hooks on the straps direcktly to the strappoints to prevent the straps to chafe and break. I´ve been a sivilian supervisor for US Forces when strapping military equipment on ships.

I'm thinking of returning to Iceland in 2026 with my Rivian and a CCS1 to CCS2 adapter because the last time I did the math, I estimated a savings of at least a couple thousand dollars.
I have loaded hundreds of vehicles Into containers over the years and recommend using a 20 foot high cube loading the vehicle onto a skid which is on an angle so you drive onto it have the vehicle then strapped down to the skid and that then is lifted at the front by forklift and slide into the container, when unloading it is simple as using forklift and sliding the cradle back out unlash the vehicle and drive away.
@theroadchoseme can you pls talk about a bit on what prep you did for vehicle insurance, road tax and your personal health insurance in these foreign countries?

What would be interesting to know more about is the insurance situation - I presume u have Canadian rego - what kind of insurance u have for this trip and how difficult was it to find an insurer for going abroad? I'm always befuddled as to why there isn't a regular car ferry service between Iceland and Canada. Iceland is not really any further from Canada than it is from mainland Europe (the ferry typically is between Denmark and Iceland), yet there are car ferries to Iceland (mostly via the Faroe Islands I think). Most likely a car ferry service that would island hop between Iceland-Greenland-Canada would be the most logical route, I suppose it all comes down to customer demand. The geographical location also means that the Northern Atlantic ocean is not very friendly for much of the year, but neither is the North Sea for that matter. For me here in Japan, I would have loved to have driven my car across the Siberian Highway all the way to the family home in Wales and have the vehicle shipped back to Japan. Unfortunately, a little matter of a war in Ukraine and the consequent ostracisation of Russia from the rest of the world has prevented that from happening.
Oh man I am so glad I found your channel. I am planning to do a Europe road trip from Montreal and then landing in France on Lx570. Which shipping company do you recommend ? Thanks a lot.

What happened to the Geolandar X-AT? I had been thinking of those for my next tire, and was looking forward to you using them on the road and getting feedback.
I'm glad I'm not paying that price for diesel. I'm in Pt Hedland atm and just paid $1.90/litre AUD ( Perth is ranging from $1.60 to $1.80/litre AUD ). Your shipping price is real cheap. I looked into it about a yr ago to ship my ute from the east coast of Australia to North America. Price came in at $13,500AUD one way. Way too expensive for me. So I might have to look at buying a car in the USA then re-selling it when I leave. Similar to what u did when u came back here.
That's crazy expensive, which isn't uncommon for most things in and out of Aus. I won't even bother checking what a 20ft high cube would be then (4x4 SWB Canter Camper) would be.

You can go flat deck or open top container. I know people who just shipped a full sized school bus from Panama to Colombia to complete the Pan-American Highway.
You will find a way
@@TheRoadChoseMe Amazing videos, so helpful! Thanks for doing them! We're planning to ship our School Bus (build in progress) from Panama to Colombia next year. Do you mind hooking me up with your friends that did this? I'd love to pick their brain about the process!
Ask on the FB group "Pan American Travellers Association" And talk to the Overland Embassy in Panama - they organize shipping for basically everyone doing it now
@@TheRoadChoseMe Awesome! Thanks!
That's pretty neat though I wonder how much life that sucks out of springs being compressed for a week at a time, probably not a heck of a lot but has to be some.
It makes zero difference.
3 months seems like a long time for Iceland.
It is. No rush
He will sill miss a lot of places !
@brmmotorsport In less than a week we knew we would need to come back. Again and again probably!
Is the shipping cost one way or with return back to Canada?
That was one way. Return was a little less than double that price.
I'm not coming back that way tho, I'll take the ferry through the Faroe Islands and onto mainland Europe in Denmark
Traffic? In Nova Scotia? lol
At 8:30 on a Monday morning trying to get into Dartmouth? Yep!
Super underrated Channel. Thank you for sharing the information! I am sure God saved you many times in your Life. Give thanks to the Creator! Jesus loves you!
Get that religion nonsense out of the comment section. This is a video about shipping a car not mortgageing your soul
@@NebraskaGonvilleJones Jesus is not a religion. He's a person. And it's a relationship. He loves you too ..but Why are you mad at him?
@@mcw0261 I’m not mad at make believe tales. I am however sick of you lot smugly creeping around the internet attempting to poison otherwise sane minds
$9 / gallon? I'm glad I don't have much interest in going to Iceland.
You certainly should.
Hands down without a question the most breathtaking place I have ever been. It's not even close.
The price of fuel is all it would take to keep you from visiting another country? Especially one of the most beautiful countries in the world?
To each their own I guess.
I second that. Been to 30 countries, Iceland being the most beautiful by far.
Excellent information, looks like a beautiful place to visit enjoy your time! On to Europe next?
Ehm… isn’t Iceland in Europe?
@@Eddie_-_ your right, I just assumed the Faroe islands were about the western fridge of Europe but I learned something new today!
Dunnage bags would be good too.
Not needed though
