    Thanks Gary. This is a good study for me before I do my Level 4. Such a shame the manufacturers don't think about repairability in the design stage. And I second the advice on training. There's no second chance with these voltages !! Keep the videos coming -👍

    I have done my level 3 and 4 through Bosch and the manufacturer I work for. The opportunity to use the training has been very limited. One dead battery cable and some Dc-Dc converter replacement jobs . So your videos are very welcome in keeping my brain ticking over trying to guess your next move. Cheers for the opportunity to see your diag videos

    Enjoyed that Gary. The selfish part of me is hoping your punter decides to buy a salvaged pack rather than wait for the back-order. That way you’ll be left with this one and nothing to loose by pulling it apart a bit further. Frustrating to know it’s an option to get a re-man from Mercedes; kind of tells us that they must be able to dismantle it somehow? Totally agree about the training. I did my Level 4 with Pete at OVA, he came up to Inverness and did it locally with us. Some of the best training I’ve ever had and obviously vitally important for my own personal safety and anyone who might be impacted by what I’m doing. Really enjoying your new EV series and can’t wait for more. Thanks for sharing, regards, Russ.

    You got trained very well :)! In Belgium we do not really have private companies giving out training and most of them are affiliated with manufactures. The only real good training we get out of dealer training is how a system works.
    Thanks for the video! You have a great working ethic when working on these systems

    Interesting and complex work. I can see this becoming specialist work with all them new models coming on.

    Great video, you say the battery has heating to keep the batteries warm but I was under the impression that they are cooled. The use a coolant that has very low conductivity but can cause insulation resistance faults. The oil used in ev/hybrid a/c has very low conductivity?

    • @intelligentauto737
      @intelligentauto737  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The batteries are more efficient if kept warm, there are temp sensors all over the battery so if batteries are getting too hot the system can be used to draw heat away too.
      The coolant does not actually come into contact with the batteries, it flows through a heat exchanger that the batteries are mounted on

    Hey question, is the pre charging comtactors in the bms module or the two contactors at the end?

  • @merkybenz

    So did you actually take the battery apart. Did you find the insulation fault?

    I have the same model Y 2018. Electric range dropped significantly.
    Please advise options with cost to replace/ refurbish if possible.

    Really enjoyed that. Just to confirm, if a new pack is purchased from Mercedes, does it come complete Gary?

    • @intelligentauto737
      @intelligentauto737  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it’s a sealed unit but would need programming as it contains the ECU for the battery monitoring

    Such a shame you couldn’t strip down to the bare components but sometime you’ve gotta call it. Do you know if you if you can get individual components within the battery compartment? Ie the insulation detector device.
    Love your videos, always learn something from you

      Potentially if you searched the part number you may be able to source them but not from Mercedes’.

    The comments on this video perfectly , people watch and just stare. They don’t understand what to repair, where the problem is.

    This is a video, but SRM relaxation is like a massage? or is this a video instruction, if this is a video instruction, then please tell me what you replaced at the end to make the machine work.

    I had similar error messages with my 2018 C350e and Mercedes Benz diagnosed that to be a faulty Aircond compressor issue.

    So this is a question from ignorance. If it was possible that voltage leakage could be present at the case, how did you safely remove the battery out of the car? Did you do an insulation test before you removed it?🤔

    • @intelligentauto737
      @intelligentauto737  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes see part 1.
      I’d need to be touching a terminal inside the battery and the battery case to get a shock

    Dear, my car is e300de, it is not switching to hybrid mode, engine remain On all the time, won’t stop at signal or steep. Can you please advise

      This kind of problem usually is solved changing the 12 volt battery. Because the car when detect that the 12 volt battery is in bad shape use to disconnect the star /stop and the hybrid system

    As great an idea being able to cool and heat the batteries, I do wonder long term viability of putting batteries and coolant in such close proximity (obv prob not the issue here) We know how long EGR coolers etc last these days 😂. However one of those is slightly cheaper than a new battery pack🤪

  • @the_retired_mechanic

    Complex systems inside those battery cases. You can start to see where the money goes when they designed them. Would need a good understanding of how each component works should you need to repair the other parts of the battery

    So the moral of owning a ev is, always make sure you got a spare battery in the boot. I think dewalt could make a better ev.

    I totally disagree with wot your saying about the training with your local colleague. Am also level 4ev trained with my local colleague and a private one and I can say collage was way far superior than the private one it's opened up a completely new business for my garage I was that well impressed I have everyone in my workshop level 4 trained and going back for more. I can ensure you that SERC in Downpatrick n/Ireland go way beyond just teaching you to pass exams they are two gentlemen

      Then I’d get in the way of it. I do these videos with a GoPro on my head live jobs, I then spend my time editing the footage.
      No one is forcing you to watch them
