    I don't think the problem is with Lewis (or Seb, or anyone) expressing an opinion on pollution or whatever their cause du jour is, but it's what Peter said, that the example speaks louder than the words. Lewis talking about not polluting the ocean, for example, is probably a good thing, but doing it from the back of a million dollar speed boat while on the ocean is off-putting to people. This is especially true when those people don't have the same means.

    • @roblucchetti2993
      @roblucchetti2993 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree. I'm a Lewis fan, and I know he is generally sincere about the causes he supports, but that was a poorly thought through move on LH's part.

      I sort of get the point….but what’s being on a speedboat got to do with polluting the ocean? Most of the crap in the ocean is from the dumping of waste from cargo ships, folks chucking rubbish into rivers etc that flow into the sea….I mean look at us in the UK…we have water companies openly dumping raw sewage into lakes and the sea.

    Worst moment? Senna's crash, Ronnie Peterson's crash...but, topping them all-- the FIA decision to give Max enough forward position to win that race giving him his first (asterisk) championship...

    I believe the problem is not Mercedes or Hamilton. The problem is FIA sellout to large corporations. The killing of two things made F1 less true in its spirit. There was a team a small team that was for a very long time competitive. Much of this was due to dominance of a particular engine that every team had the option to use, and the majority of winning teams did Cosworth! Somehow and most probably mainly Mercedes Ferrari and Renault wanted dominance back in the engine arena. The small team of Williams innovated many things to push the sport out of necessity due to lack of some recourses the big three had. Year after year smaller team's innovations became illegal or blocked by a team buying a tire company to deny innovation.
    FIA has let the big boys make it nearly impossible for any small team to truly compete consistently. Lotus and Williams both were killed off due to FIA protecting the big three and their interests. So many innovations made by Williams and Lotus were picked out as unfair and Illegal most probably due to lobbying and money pressure.
    Think of this had FIA let innovation happen even if it is from a small team Williams Lotus and possibly some other engine choice similar to Cosworth might still be competitive. With and end result of Russel being a star driver for competing Williams and never considering Leaving.
    FIA is a business now not just a regulatory commission. Proof is the pump up of tracks in areas that historically have no business in F1 except money.

    Another fantastic conversation with the one and only Mr Windsor. The word legend doesn’t really do the man justice. I wasn’t aware he was involved with the F1 exhibition, if it ever makes it to the UK, that’s going to be a must see event for sure!
    Regarding Mercedes getting stuck on the wrong path in this rule set, just the other day I was listening to the audiobook version of Marc “Elvis” Priestley’s autobiography recounting his time as a race mechanic at McLaren. When discussing the MP4-18 (which never actually raced and was scrapped entirely after testing due to it being an absolute dog of a car) he said that their head designer had stubbornly gotten stuck on a path that he was never going to be able to get it to work in reality. Elvis said that the car was way ahead of it’s time and was full of theoretical potential but that performance could never be unlocked on track. That sounds awfully familiar to what has been said about the W13 and W14 doesn’t it? And who was that ill fated McLaren designer? Some guy called Adrian Newey. I wonder whatever happened to him? 🤔😂

    Alonso was the fastest driver through T10 in Qualifying according to the telemetry. Leclerc drove overcautious lap In Q3 as well, he left 0,2-0,3s easily on the table in T1 and T13. It is complete delusion to say Alonso should've beaten Charles Ferrari or that he had more than 0,5s left in his car. By the way both Mercedes drivers put not perfect laps together either, Toto said there was more in the car, at least 0,1-0,15s more. Russell missed the apex in T1 even by bigger margin for example.
    Alonso qualified where the car deserved in terms of position. His whole race was compromised by hit from Stroll only. If not for that hit, Alonso would've re-overtaken Lewis into T5 on lap 1 and had completely different race afterwards.

      @BAndersen-ee1xy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sultanoftippoo3857 That is not what they said. Lewis is not a designer or engineer. The idea that the team decided not to listen to some vital piece of engineering info, and that this is why the car is not quick, is absolutely ridiculous.

    • @sultanoftippoo3857
      @sultanoftippoo3857 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BAndersen-ee1xy Not sure if F1 is a sport you have followed for long or if you have followed other series like NASCAR or IndyCar?
      I agree in NASCAR and IndyCar the drivers have minimal opportunity to provide feedback to engineers and designers that will make any discernible difference to the performance of the car because these are fixed formulas where the cars are almost identical.
      F1 isn’t a drivers series like NASCAR or IndyCar, it’s a constructors series and the designers, engineers of each team look for loopholes in the strict rules/regulations to gain competitive advantage.
      Drivers have always been an important tool for designers to exploit those loopholes (Seb Vettel was able to help Adrian Neweys design team to build a rear end of the 2010-2013 Red Bull to rotate the car so it could gain traction earlier in a corner exit than its competitors).
      If you want recent proof of a team using a driver to help improve a cars performance, that was why Hamilton spent the first half of 2022 trying experimental parts during race weekends leaving Russell to focus on maximising his points against his team mate
      Regarding Hamilton and the 2022 Mercedes, of course he wasn’t able to design any part of the car to make it faster but what he was saying was the car only performed in a very tight window (narrow bell curve if you like) across a range of track surfaces, configurations, temperatures whereas other teams developed cars that performed across a much wider range - in short he was saying the car following the current design philosophy would only work in a small % of situations.
      The bottom line is Hamilton knew the car was never going to be a Championship contender if the design philosophy didn’t change. The team ignored his view and continued on with the 2023 car that we see today. Last weekend Toto came out and said the team were wrong to ignore Lewis and all Peter Windsor did was confirm what Toto and most long time F1 fans knew months ago.

He only wanted to keep Valteri, as he did not challenge him like George has done successfully. He was the fastest driver of the fastest car at the time, as with many of the "best" drivers in the past. So this worshipping of Lewis given his current performance does not makes sense on the performance facts as they currently stand.

    I do not agree, way too many people, Peter included only use stats to choose who is the best driver, overlooking the state of the competition. There are other drivers who would have achieved very similar results with the same equipment, Peter if Lewis is the driver you claim he is, I would love to hear your reasoning as to why his lesser experience teammate is out performing him?

    What a BS. No F1 driver in history had it easier than Hamilton 'socially'. He was the most privileged youth driver since he was 13, when he came to F1 everybody believed it was about time we finally had a black driver, he didn't have anything to complain himself either. On top of that he's always had this strong British privilege with the anglophonic press with it's toxic chauvinism putting pressure on the FIA and the stewards.
    Only later in his career he jumped the BLM bandwagon, despite it being very American extremism. Suddenly he was from 'the slums of Stevenage' and he had had such a hard childhood.

      Imagine from the day you're born that you deal with racism. 24 rs a day. I would to see you deal with it everyday , you would probably want to end your life after one week. It doesn't matter how much money, what school you graduated from,what neighborhood you live in . If you are black it's apart of your daily life dealing with racism. So until you're black you can keep your opinions to yourself!

    With Peter as Team Principal George would have driven for another team years ago and wouldn't have put up with being parked in Williams for 3 years.

    Lewis lost race focus the moment he got politically active for the BLM movement and started kneeling on the grid... . Political activism isn't a hobby, it's a mission that takes energy and focuses away from his prime activity, his racing dedication and 'work'.

    Max was literally abused by his father. Max said himself that he was forced to race when he want to play foot ball with his friends. His father break toys & beat his mom. Jos Verstappen dictated Max's F1 career. Max abusive behavior to his team is a result of Jos Verstappen's abuse of Max.

      All aboard the love Lewis Hamilton/ hate Max train!
      Max is not hated by his team, and the other drivers on the grid clearly do not hate him either, they probably like him more than they do Lewis. He is always very straight, says it how he sees it, and his team know that. The team was never in a major crisis even though they were streets behind Merc for 7 years, and Max stayed quite patient for all of that time. Lewis on the other hand was given the best car on the grid for 8 years in a row, the longest period of any driver ever. Now he has not had the best car for a meager one year and he already starts throwing the people under the bus, the same people that gave him the best car ever.
      And on the armchair psychology, if you would really be interested rather than a hater you could actually delve into what people say about him rather than base everything one one story. The general picture then is that his personality is quite a balanced mix between his father ( admittedly a bit of a prick) and his mother, who is apparently actually a very likable lady. And if youcare to see it you can quite easily see both of these sides, steely on the one hand and easy going with people on the other hand.

      @@rulifaller8474 You're right. And it makes absolutely no sense to me that people allow themselves to be so polarized by things that, at the end of the day, are trivial. If you prefer Hamilton, that's fine. If you prefer Verstappen, that's fine. It's even okay to not like one or the other. But all the nonsense with people calling each other names, getting angry with one another, over which F1 driver they prefer - it's crazy.
