A good tip is when you think you are done the tattoo, take a picture on your phone and study the picture for a minute. You should be able to catch anything you may have missed or where the contrast needs to be bumped up etc..
Absolutely agree with making sure your fresh/well rested.. and have given yourself sufficient time to prepare your mind/outlook. I find pre-preparing all stencils, ideally with a pre-appointment consultation a good move.. I'm just fresher that way.. I also charge for artwork design but include a consultation to get the brief and play around with images on iPad with the client present.. just got sick of dedicating hours of time to it and them thinking I was ok with it coz I kept doing it.. once I explained the hours spent designing, they were fine about the charge and it saved me resenting them and myself I also make you 100% right on going the extra yard.. I went through a phase of pretty much using mags for just about everything, maybe line top of an eye or a nostril.. but mag everything else.. but over last couple of years I've returned to using liners for the tight corners and small areas of whip shading etc.. I just found the mags can line and are sufficiemt in most cases.. but a good solid line with a liner keeps things sharper and helps em stay that way over the course of time.. just my opinion, others may disagree, and that's cool.. but I really like and benefit from small grouping liners.. I also often hear people say "dont get to caught up in the lil details as they won't matter in time and no one will notice em anyway".. 😳🤔 I hear the angle and get it in certain less fore ground places of the piece.. but I always aim to get it as perfect a representation as possible.. and get every detail... does that mean I hit it perfect everyday.. of course not.. I'm a craftsman aiming to replicate a piece of art/design onto a surface that some days is soft, receptive & sweet and other days, older, dry, rough and at times even much like a tough leather handbag (builders 🤦♂️).. I def make you right also about the music.. I like lining to start out with easy listening.. but at a point I change it to house.. not coz I'm a huge house fanatic, but because it has a faster rhythm.. definitely helps me anyway. Regarding stretching.. only time I loosen up is with shading.. I actually find that some areas work better for shading with practically zero stretch.. but again, just my way ... but lines, a stretch, in the direction I'm travelling, is imperative.. and a comfortable compass like swing from a secured wrist Contrast.. massive issue.. I've had periods where I've been convinced I went a lil to dark.. only to see em 3yr later.. and it look fantastic.. and other times when I thought I had the tones spot on.. to see it healed and realise i should gone a lil darker.. however this does differ with different skin types.. I have couple older clients where even a light grey wash looks like a darker grey wash.. strange.. but true.. like all tones pretty much seem to hit em like one tone.. 🤯😂😂 Great review Chris.. love listening to people talk about this kinda content. Still learning every day 😉
Another great video Chris! Have a question for ya. I think I have my sweet spot down for lining again. My question is how much do you drop you're voltage when packing black and shading. As opposed to what you run when lining. Just can't seem to find my sweet spot for packing and shading? As always Chris much much RESPECT and God bless you and yours brother! Also I want to thank you again for all your advice and kind words when I was going through a rough patch.
I don’t change my Voltage for anything other than lining, I’m which case I go up a full volt. So say, going from 7v to 8v not 7v to 7.1v.. As always Kevin, it’s a pleasure my dude.
@@ChrisRavage It's a real nice tattoo. I find hand tattoos fall out so easy so if you have any tips for keeping them in? Is it the pressure or even healing different than say a different area ? Great I'm looking forward to the colour.

So true !
Also pay attention to skin TONES! Grey washes are totally different on darker skin tones vs lighter skin
That hand tattoo was fire
Thank You Lynn
