I just wanna use this space to write a heartfelt THANK YOU for all the kind comments following my injury. This is probably a bit of a slower episode as I'm still recovering but it has been amazing to see all the support and I haven't felt stressed out about not being able to create long videos which I feared I would - all due to you guys

although the city is surrounded by mountains and these mountains are incredibly close to the map centre, You should remember that a lot of modern day cities are close to mountains, such us Hobart, Denver etc.

I think it would be a good idea to build a dam with a road on top where that dried out stream is as if that lake is kind of like a reservoir when there is a drought.

To be fair though - Innsbruck IS enclosed by mountains, some of which are pretty high with a rather abrupt (steep) incline

@@Infrastructurist I just checked the heights as well. Innsbruck is at 574 meters, and its highest surrounding mountain at the top of the Nordkette is 2.334 meters high. So Cities Skylines does take it up a few hundred meters, although it does look really similar to Innsbruck, just less snow and more of a "really tall hills"-feeling.

@@endless123487 Interesting! The 2800 meter peak might have been my creation originally though - I don't recall if it was a feature of the map.

31:50 you might want to check out Iseo Lake in Italy, there are a few cement and steel companies installed in narrow flat spaces between huge moutains and the lake itself. it's pretty impressive and interesting as it was deemed the best places to place these big factories at the time, which can see cray as of today.

37:38 about that little bit of industry there
So this little weird industrial district i'll call Burnley Point was created somewhere around 1970s to provide some jobs for the newly built north suburbs, however, since it was so tiny and unsignificant, it was mostly forgotten and neglected by the rest of Riverview. By the 2000s Riverview unoficially excluded this disctrict, and it is now in limbo, being both part of the Riverview metro and not.

You sound like you feel better and are ready to start fresh, with new and inspiring design and detailing ideas to keep us on the edge of our seats. When it comes to putting out top quality build ideas and just great content all around, you're one of the best damn Cities Skylines 1 & 2 player's in this whole world. So glad to have you back and please start taking better care of yourself because a world without you wouldn't be one that I for one wouldn't like to exist in. 39:15 The lake sort of looks like a cat or panthers head, and seeing how well you terraformed the mountain range I think it only be fitting to name it Lake Panterra. We can also imagine that panthers once roamed the region, perhaps inspiring the renaming the local football team from Chirpers to Panthers 🐱

You could call the industrial place „upland mines“ because of the big plateau and you said something about mines, I could be some sort of old mining place and they just stuck with the name after adding some extra industry after the mines where not used anymore.
Edit: I’ve just realized it doesn’t really make sense because the area isn’t on the plateau 😅

You could name the lake Origin lake because it flows in to the main river, or it used to until it got blocked, and the people that lived there the indigenous called it origin lake because a part of the river originated from there. Also because the city is at a high altitude and there is no river/stream flowing into the lake they might’ve believed the lake to create water, there for the name Origin lake. To further this you could add ruins and other props around the area so there was a small community there hundreds of years ago, could add a lot of new lore opportunities to make the world feel more alive.
Also is it only me who believes the lake looks like among us at 39:19?

for the small industrial area you could stick with the mining idea since it seems like a Colorado city, the state has a rich mining history in the mountains. It could be named "*future name of lake* stream mine" and it was a significant mine back in the day so you could have a couple old abandoned processing type props, but since it's an old American mine of course they decided to go higher up into the mountain. To signify it you could add a few of the wooden power lines (some standing and some fallen) but as props going up to a very tiny plateau to be an old ropeway that carried stuff up and down and you could add a old small entrance or 2 if you're able to with the props we have and willing to make it, and you could make a line through the tree line under the old ropeway and make it more bushy to show the old development a bit more. Could be an important piece of history for Riverview and it's growth way back in the day. Same way you you added a mansion in fort john that belongs to a powerful family, you could add a very nice old estate in the new lake neighborhood that belongs to the family that owns the mine,

I like the idea from one commenter about using an indigenous story for the plateau lake. But can I suggest using the story from Lake Minnewanka (“Water of the Spirits” in Nakoda) in Banff National Park? That lake was originally smaller, but was enlarged and deepened when a small power dam was constructed at one end. It might be fun to adopt that idea.

Hi, small suggestion from some swiss guy who has seen a lot of mountain lakes. For ? lake, as it is a lake that is fed by melting Snow, the water level will be very season dependent (meaning probably much lower level in autumn and winter and high level in spring and summer). But you completely surrounded the lake with a road, so the lake has no place where the water can overflow during summer time. You should maybe turn the road part to a bridge where you already created the small river flowing down to the valley :)

  • @mikael8433

Could Park Dale have specialized in forestry? The surrounding areas are heavily forested, and in earlier times, the logs could have been transported directly via the rivers. This was very dangerous work, where the logs were tied together to form rafts, which were then steered down the valley by brave men.
Over time, the surrounding area became more developed, and the work of these courageous rafters became unnecessary. Some of them had their sons learn further wood processing, and thanks to better infrastructure and the beautiful nature, the area also attracted some craftsmen from the valleys. This led to the establishment of a tradition of woodworking in this place.

Tip for the first lake water level:
You probably have water sources in the rivers. Lower the sources of that closeby river by 30% and it should be enough for the lake to not cause any flooding!
The other solution is to deepen the river bed around the lower parts of the city and create a small elevation alongside the coast line to stop the water
P.S.: Could also enter Riverview's lore that because of global warming, the glaciers around town began melting fast, overflowing the rivers and forcing the mayors to unite in efforts to prevent floods

? LAKE STORYLINE: There was a hydro-electric plant here in the 80s that powered early industry in the region and the nearby abandoned industrial area. After an unexplained “valve issue” that flooded much of the city below in 1988, the damn was filled in permanently with soil to prevent future flooding by the State Environmental Department. Local legend says a real-estate moguls son and his friends opened alll the release valves in a drunken stupor, but this was never investigated. Ever since the noisy hydro-electric dam was removed, property values have skyrocketed, leading to the luxury home development. The lake was renamed to “Lake Pia” after a young girl and her father were washed away by the flood waters while fishing near the riverbank.

Would be nice if you create a big dam in the mountains. A bit like the hoover dam

Is your obsession with little lakes a result of your injury somehow? 😉 Are you sure you didn't get hit on the head? 😂
Hope you get fully well soon!

Lake Kerl. A weird anglicization of the Kyrgyz word for 'lake' (көл), since the terrain is reminiscent of all the beautiful mountain lakes of Kyrgyzstan.

Patreon supperter here: I have a request that you add rural development in the spaces where you intend to expand suburban developments in the future. I think this will help us and you visualize what's coming as you continue to explore the boundaries of what is developable and what is not. And, even though it may upset the masses, I would not hate another terraforming episode to finish smoothing out all of the mountain ranges on the map and adding more lakes, streams, and ponds. :D
Thanks for your work Infra! Glad to hear that you are recovering well. I had a lower back injury this summer too and it temporarily wrecked my work coordinating the local, neighborhood communtiy garden. :'(
