    Hello Kevin Nadeau,
    Thank you for posting this video. Just ordered inner and outer tie-rods for my 07 GMT-360.
    I have growling sounds that made me chase wheel bearings, but have excessive slop when doing wheel test play and it is not good, especially on vehicle front right!
    Cheers!

    This also applies to the Oldsmobile Bravada. There could be some differences in parts or bolt sizes, but in general is the same, if not exactly the same.
    Those clamps are actually called OETIKER clamps. Sometimes called "one time use" clamps. They can not be reused. Someone could order a replacement online, use a worm clamp (but just tight enough to seal, but let bellows move), which should work fine or use a zip tie. But in my area of NE OH those zip ties will eventually give out or get really brittle. I can't say if will take 1, 2 or 3 years, but the road salt, snow, cold will take a toll.

    • @LSmiata
      @LSmiata 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trying to get OEM "OETIKER" clamps. Worried about worm-gear clamps being off balance on rotating assembly. Will zip-tie before going to worm-gear.
      EDIT: OOPS! Was thinking about axles. No rotating mass on the rack boots.
      My thoughts.
      Loved the video and works on all GMT360: Trailblazer, Envoy, Bravada, Rainier, 9-7x (Saab), and Ascender (Isuzu)

    Hi .....thanks for your video,I just replace the tide rod in my 2003 envoy xl...and in your video at 8:04 the inner tide rod shows that is wrapped in some type of plastic gasket or something like that....mine looks the same....do you know if that is because they are the original tide rods and never have been replaced? The new ones they don’t have that plastic.....thanks

    • @KevinNadeau
      @KevinNadeau  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that is some sort of dust protector. Just slide it back into the rack and pinion and then after you put the new tie rod on you can put it back in place. Look at 11:21 where it's back in place on the new tie rod. Hope that helps.

    I wish you would have shown torquing the inner tie rod. You are putting 74 ft/lbs on the rod inside the rack. What keeps that from spinning or putting undo rotational force on the rod and the gears that move the rack & pinion from side to side? Are there flats on the rod that the inner tie rods thread into?

    • @KevinNadeau
      @KevinNadeau  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry about that. It wasn't too eventful when I torqued down the inner tie rod. From memory, I think I just used crescent wrench and applied roughly the right amount of torque. Don't forget the thread lock. No flats on the female side. I don't recall anything spinning/twisting in the rack & pinion.

    Kevin Nadeu, I rented that exact same inner tie rod tool kit, Kit #26, from Advance Auto and it doesn't fit the original or replacement tie rods. The opening to the socket that's supposed to fit over the shaft of the tie rod won't because it isn't big enough. I was confident after watching this video that the tool would work but now that it doesn't I'd like to know why.
    I believe the part I'm trying to remove is the factory one and I'm using Moog replacement parts. Moog's website says the part fits every year of every model in this class so our parts should be identical.
    Anything you can tell me about your parts would be appreciated.
    I'm going to rent O'Reilly's Kit #67178 which is a different design. I didn't get initially because this looks heavier duty.

    Hi Kevin, my tire is wiggles like yours. At first I thought it was the wheel bearing hub, replaced it, but the wheel is still humming. Would bad tie rods cause that noise as well?

    • @KevinNadeau
      @KevinNadeau  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess its possible, or the noise could be from something else in the drive train.

    • @DanielHernandez-qj7oj
      @DanielHernandez-qj7oj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Nadeau what I didn’t realize is when you explain that when the weight load shifts the noise goes away. For example when driving and I go right a little the noise goes away so I assumed the issue was with the drivers side hub, but according to you the passengers side is the one with the issue. So looks like I might’ve replaced the wrong hub! 😒

    • @KevinNadeau

      I would change them as a pair. Just my preference though. The wheel hubs i used were inexpensive enough for me to justify it.

    • @KevinNadeau
      @KevinNadeau  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelengle9062 Honestly, I do not know. One is about twice the price of the other, and I'm sure there is a reason for that. But for me, there comes a point of diminishing returns when the cost difference of replacement parts is so drastic.

    Be careful with the inner tie rods you can do damage to the pinion gear or knock the preload out of alignment on the rack I have unfortunately and magically done both. You need to put a pipe wrench behind the inner tie rod on the steering rack and secure it. I am hoping I can adjust mine back into spec as the backlash on the gear is getting worse by the day.
