This one probably the most unsettling SCP I’ve known. You try to take advantage of the phenomenon and it just assimilates your actions. And the idea that normalcy was forced on a location is so much more creepy than the YA Novel “the magic is real but they’re hiding in plain sight” state continuing; like they had that and it was turned into the mundane life we live. Like you never know if you’re only living your mundane life because 4006 (or an SCP like it) wants you to.

That one with the mirror dimension, the sack of potatoes, and the city with the triangles or something? I like location based ones a lot.
I wholeheartedly agree. Something very intriguing and terrifying about the infinite sack of potatoes. A goofy idea, but when you investigate the world it contains, it suggests a very strange apocalypse.
Bring back the anomalies that aren't as blatantly dangerous as possible, just something the foundation found on accident one day, something that makes no sense, and is just confusing.
Putting it in plain terms, the true effect of 4006 isn't tricking people into thinking a state exists where it doesn't (though that is a result of the effect). The true effect is 4006 is making people do and think whatever is best for the sake of normalcy to continue. (Just to cover my bases, for those new to SCP, "normalcy" is the idea that anomalies should remain hidden from the public at large, so long as no one knows what the foundation is and what they do, the world is "normal" and life goes on. The "veil" is everything they do to maintain this state of affairs.) Since 4006 ensures normalcy, if two people are having a conversation and both _believe_ they're in Massachusetts, they're able to talk about being there (whether or not it's true), and conversely, if two people _don't believe_ they're in Massachusetts, neither will say anything to the other that makes them suspicious of what they think is normal. With 4006 around, them saying "boy, it's a lovely day here in Wisconsin" "Wisconsin? I thought this was New York..." just doesn't come up by sheer probability. But the effect is larger than that, after the foundation moves all their stuff to MA, there's a moment where we see a plane fly directly over a site. In our universe you'd expect all sorts of news stories about this huge military/research site someone spotted out of a window. But this doesn't happen due to 4006, by chance, no one looks out the window, no news stories are written, and so normalcy is preserved. This is what that "4006 _is_ the veil" stuff is about, it's an anomalous effect that seems to align with the foundation's goal of maintaining normalcy and keeping all this stuff hidden...
I’m choosing to believe that the IKEA in Stoughton is actually SCP-3008. I’ve “been there” a few times and it sure feels like it. Also as a current resident of Amherst and former resident of several parts of Boston I can confirm the accuracy of this.
When did they put an IKEA in Stoughton? I haven't been home in some time. Also, did you see what they did to the high school? I know the upgrade happened over a decade ago, but I lost it when I looked at what used to be the old senior parking lot.
It being a probability SCP makes this so interesting almost more scary than anti memes in a way since nothing anomalous is technically happening to the area just a series of impossibly low chances. The real anomaly is how anyone could notice when they’re jut bound to walk into more circumstances at every turn
Listened to this while driving to work today. And yes I do live In Massachusetts. As you can imagine I was quite surprised to see the thumbnail of this video! 😂
Speaking of States, I don't know if this is cannon, but over at the SCP Explained channel, a lot of SCPs seem to come from/happen in my home state of Wisconsin.
A change of pace in the SCP style is always interesting, this one is amusing for me to listen to. I'm from New York, but I have often heard that specific US states not existing is a joke people sometimes make - or are something like this, anomalous. The fact that it is also a location used by The Foundation Higher-ups is not surprising in the least. The process of the final identification - as well as integration with the US was an interesting touch - what a way to completely take over an entire location to boost Foundation resources and personnel storage. Gods, who knows how much is actually there. xD
The ending has me confused. Does this mean that Massachusetts really was settled years ago and the phenomenon was that the Foundation thought it wasn’t?
As a Massachusetts resident, I can assure you everything is all right. We are very normal and not at all weird or anomalous and are totally not going against the laws of reality as we currently comprehend it. Nope, not at all.
Consider: Massachusetts still is not habitated, even though Foundation personnel know about that lack of habitation. All attempts by the Foundation to settle Massachusetts met with the same happenstance as previously experienced. They exist in and believe they built the same cities that they think people think are cities in Massachusetts that aren't actually in Massachusetts. The facilities the Foundation thinks are in Massachusetts remain hidden by the same coincidences that keep the people of fake Massachusetts from realizing they aren't in Massachusetts. The reason they can't find any people who mistakenly believe they are in Massachusetts isn't that they are actually in Massachusetts, but instead that Foundation personnel think that all the people who thought they were in Massachusetts have actually come to Massachusetts and that the personnel have left the true Massachusetts when searching for them, so they only encounter people who don't think they are Massachusetts.
This is similar to the city Bielefeld in Germany. A city that is on every map, that has exit signs on the highway, a train station, yet doesn't actually exist. You can meet people who tell you that they live there. You can even go there by yourself (I've been there once and I have a friend who lives there). But just like with Massachusetts, you're never actually in Bielefeld, because it doesn't exist. I don't know if the train station and all that are part of the containment by the foundation, or part of the anomaly. I've never actually checked if the foundation has a presence in Germany, but if they do, Bielefeld is certainly in their database and under containment.

Well, if I ever get into writing for the Wiki, I've already got a few ideas lined up in this vein, so that's good. I really gotta get started soon.
Don't forget about the Architect.
Bring back the anomalies that aren't as blatantly dangerous as possible, just something the foundation found on accident one day, something that makes no sense, and is just confusing.
The idea of accidentally solving for bear is infinitely scarier than any doombringing god tier SCP.
This approaches the line between metafiction and postmodernism, then dances a tarantella all over that line.
4:39 - I reckon that folks would be able to tell *EXACTLY* where they'd be by the accents. Dead ringers, those.
Literally sitting in the middle of Massachusetts right now, or am I 🤔
This is just the "Finland doesn't exist" joke but with extra steps
This is a sitcom episode disguised as an eldritch horror story.
The music in this is very intense, and has a few notes that give me a strange inner ear sensation.
I love it.
Boston actually being Philly explains so much.
It's Always Slightly Cold in Boston
So glad you finally got to this one!
I totally understand everything that was said in this video.
The "veil" is everything they do to maintain this state of affairs.)
Since 4006 ensures normalcy, if two people are having a conversation and both _believe_ they're in Massachusetts, they're able to talk about being there (whether or not it's true), and conversely, if two people _don't believe_ they're in Massachusetts, neither will say anything to the other that makes them suspicious of what they think is normal.
This is what that "4006 _is_ the veil" stuff is about, it's an anomalous effect that seems to align with the foundation's goal of maintaining normalcy and keeping all this stuff hidden...
watching this from "Boston" and it might be my new fave!
I’m choosing to believe that the IKEA in Stoughton is actually SCP-3008. I’ve “been there” a few times and it sure feels like it.
Also as a current resident of Amherst and former resident of several parts of Boston I can confirm the accuracy of this.
God I love that Ikea
Yes
When did they put an IKEA in Stoughton? I haven't been home in some time. Also, did you see what they did to the high school? I know the upgrade happened over a decade ago, but I lost it when I looked at what used to be the old senior parking lot.
@@CarsonZXY idk, at minimum ten years? That's how long I've been around the area. Couldn't speak to the school though, I'm a bit north.
As a Springfieldian im in awe of this one
Western MA is time locked into a 1998 Subaru and hiking boots
@@DaftBrian1 Sounds bout right
Springfield? That place doesn't exist.
Genuinely surprised it isn’t springfielder
Springielder? Rolls off better for sure
Now for my existential crisis......does Spencer,ma exist? Do I?
Totally cool concept
(That last part! Very clever!
-JJ Boreal)
It being a probability SCP makes this so interesting almost more scary than anti memes in a way since nothing anomalous is technically happening to the area just a series of impossibly low chances. The real anomaly is how anyone could notice when they’re jut bound to walk into more circumstances at every turn
Sweeeet! The algorithm hasn’t been recommending your videos in a while. I’ve missed these.
Man crazy how for my "senior trip" I was supposed to go to Boston for like a week... but 4006 made 2020
All this time I thought I was from Massachusetts...
This was quite enjoyable to listen to
Last time I was this early, the High Holy Ghost of Tupac Shakur was still on vacation on Earth.
I use to live in Maine and had to commute to Lowell mass everyday for work.
Hated that job...
One thing I can say is when you live in SCP-4006 for long enough you get used to the weird stuff that happens inside of it.
Thanks Volgun!!
God damn, this one already hits different
Listened to this while driving to work today. And yes I do live In Massachusetts. As you can imagine I was quite surprised to see the thumbnail of this video! 😂
What a cool SCP. I wish Massachusetts was real.
It's crazy that for a place that doesn't exist its a reason for our continuous safty
Massachusetts is just where a pattern screamer took a dump, and now there's a wrinkle in the fabric of reality.
"SCP-4006 is the phenomenon known as "the veil"" is just such a spine-tingling line.
Speaking of States, I don't know if this is cannon, but over at the SCP Explained channel, a lot of SCPs seem to come from/happen in my home state of Wisconsin.
It used to be Ohio, but not since the incident. We had to use 2000, and Wisconsin was the winner this time around.
Sloth's Pit
A change of pace in the SCP style is always interesting, this one is amusing for me to listen to. I'm from New York, but I have often heard that specific US states not existing is a joke people sometimes make - or are something like this, anomalous. The fact that it is also a location used by The Foundation Higher-ups is not surprising in the least.
The process of the final identification - as well as integration with the US was an interesting touch - what a way to completely take over an entire location to boost Foundation resources and personnel storage. Gods, who knows how much is actually there. xD
Holy shit I knew Jerma was part of some anomally
I think this is my favorite SCP entry yet, thanks
Tldr: massechusets doesn't exist, but slowly starts existing
This is a really impressive effect, since I grew up in Leominster, graduated High School in Athol, MA.
The ending has me confused. Does this mean that Massachusetts really was settled years ago and the phenomenon was that the Foundation thought it wasn’t?
Or maybe the anomaly reasserted itself and is fooling the Foundation now.
IT means that it is unknown if anyone is actually in Massachusetts
This is one of my favorites!
Schrodinger's colony/state... damn that's cool
Grew up in boston.....I always felt like something was off
As a Massachusetts resident, I can assure you everything is all right. We are very normal and not at all weird or anomalous and are totally not going against the laws of reality as we currently comprehend it.
Nope, not at all.
i love that this is essentially the foundation accidentally finding itself and creating a whole state to keep the secrecy up
I've lived my whole life in MA. Does this mean I'm a foundation employee without knowing it? Hope I'm not D-class.
It means you don’t actually live in Massachusetts, you just think you do
You’re clearly from RI
you're an SCP-4006-A
"Hope I'm not D-class"
Good to see that the amnestics are working correctly. Now get back to work.
Oh. That last part hits just right.
Gotta love that The Veil is as vaguely explained or undertood to Spcheads as it is to Desticles.
Banger before even watching
Nice. More Thaumiel entry videos.
Deyeem, homie! You're almost at a mill!
*Man I wish I can apply to work as a researcher in the foundation.*

Here's the question though: Is the foundation actually in Massachusettes or are they also being affected by the SCP?
Having been "born" in "Boston," can confirm.
If this was about Wyoming, I'd start to question if the Foundation is actually real. It'd make too much sense.
What you haven't realized is this is actually about Wyoming. the SCP Foundation is just redirecting attention to Massachusetts instead

I've always enjoyed this one, so glad to see it getting some love
?
I think this was a good idea for an SCP, but the execution was unnecessarily complicated. Explaining the "Veil" as an SCP could be something interesting. However, the way it is described in this article feels very Rube Goldberg.
Nope, this is very scp. Something is weird and so the scientists are researching it like mad, you get vague hints throughout the research documents. And then someone says something and it all clicks
Pittsburg being near Boston got me.
You heard of Florida and Ohio, not get ready for Massachusetts!
Ngl this is the most creative simple, yet so complex scp.
Really hoping we get an extra credit on this one lol
I so love the final punchline. Nice goosebumps.
