ok, you are fun. this is my first time to see you, so I have a lot of questions. will you be giving tips or school people on how to do what you did? I'm gonna watch now. thanks a lot.
That's awesome you bought that house yay !! My thought on renting the apartment through this agency but the apartment is right below you. It's not that difficult to clean it. Put an ad up I'm sure. Paula Tell you where to put up the ads. I mean that's not difficult to put up the ads for your apartment and do that yourself.!!! It's only one apartment and you're going to save yourself money. But if money is not a problem and you'd rather have these people do all that for you then go for it.😅 ✌️
I'll likely not be there for half of each year for a while so managing it on my own is not an option. But I might not rent it out at all. We'll see how the stars line up. 😂
❤ congratulations my dream is to live in Sicily but I don’t know Italian and sure I could learn but it would be hard so for now I will just dream and visit
Really enjoyed the video and hearing about the purchasing process and your thought process about the area and the possibility of getting help with renting and renovations. My wife and I plan to retire to Italy, and may purchase at some point, but we haven't explored enough of the country to know what region yet. Piedmont and Abruzzo are both high on the list. We like the greener areas with (hopefully) less heat and humidity. Curious to know - What made you choose Piedmont over Abruzzo?
My video this week (released Friday) will hopefully answer some of your questions. Thanks for following along and best of luck with your retirement plans.
Italians often empty the entire property including the kitchen units and light fixtures so never assume you're getting anything you see inside. Put it in writing!
I think you can charge more for short term rentals, but then there are more expenses. That might be something I would consider, but not sure I want that long term commitment. Probably why I'm still single too. 😂
Congratulations! - Maybe I missed it, but why did you choose Piedmont? And, big topic... how did you manage the language? My experience in Piedmont is that most real estate agents and geometra speak very little or no English. That makes my search a bit difficult! By the way: Is your real estate agent Paola from 'Immobiliare di Rabezzana' in Montemagno? 🙂
There are a lot of reasons I chose Piedmont. I mentioned it in some previous videos, but I think I'll do an episode on that next week. A couple people have asked. My realtor and I are doing everything through WhatsApp which has translation built into it. I can understand some Italian so on the property tours we were able to communicate, but occasionally had to resort to Google Translate. That is the Paola I'm working with. She has been great!
Well done make fair play , l bought a place 2 months ago 1 town over from where tou are , so we will have to catch up Nd go for a bike ride , and a spritz,
@@aroundtheworldwithmike perfect l be back over there around last August, lm sure we catch up then , l normally have coffee alot at cafe at bottom of your hill , so lm sure we will share a laugh and bike tales there , great location mate , well down 👊
Just part time for now. I'll keep my place in Colorado for now. That's a great idea for an episode. I've talked about it over the entire process, but it makes sense to explain once again how I decided on the Piedmont region out of the 20 very diverse regions of Italy. Stay tuned.
Hey Mike, what town in Piedmont. I’ve been to Italy three times in last two years and torn between Piedmont, Umbria, and Puglia for property. Trying to get out of winter in Canada. I loved Piedmont for so many reasons. Turin had to be one of my favourite cities next to Bologna. Looks like you figured out everything you would need to take care of your property while you’re not there. Best of luck.
Wow! You've got three diverse options there that cover the entire country from north to south. And each is very different. I suggest spending some time in each and see what feels right. Best of luck to you too!
@aroundtheworldwithmike thanks for the quick response. We spent a month last year in April going around piedmont, abruzzo and then down to amalfi and back to rome. This past June, we were two weeks in puglia. So we know all the areas well, I think. I like the idea of being close to other areas in Europe from piedmont. It's going to be a tough call.
Wow! You've seen a lot of Italy. For me, after 6000+ km of riding, I realized I wanted to be towards the north end of Italy and closer to the rest of Europe. Plus, I've heard amazing things about the food, wine and culture of Piedmont. The more I research, the more I'm liking my choice. In the end though, I think every region of Italy is going to have amazing things to offer as long as you're open minded. Best of luck! Maybe our paths will cross some time.
@@aroundtheworldwithmike yeah, hopefully our paths cross. I want to be there for Winter Olympics 2026. Being Canadian I would love to see the Olympic hockey.
The sellers were pretty motivated and the price was flexible. It had been priced at 95,000 previously. It was at 85,000 when I looked at it. I got it for 65,000. But there are pretty high taxes on this property due to it's value from the municipality. So after taxes and fees it will be closer to 80,000 (all prices in Euros).
Thank you for the entertainment value. fun to watch but I need research info. Just didn't get anything of value as far as a good area in the entire Piedmont, town, anything. Thanks
I haven't checked specifically about motorcycles, but I'm sure it's the same as a car. Once I get residency in the future I'll look into getting a newer motorcycle and maybe a car.
Listening to a expat lady saying using international license is OK first year after that an Italian license is necessary which start from learner stage and takes quite some time to finally get also even a small scooter requires a license. Purchasing a car or motorcycle not possible until ones Italian license achieved. So hiring a rental must be OKfirst year just drive correct side of road.
I have heard that. Fortunately I don't plan on any major renovations on this place. Basically just a kitchen and some cosmetic stuff. I would like to eventually add an internal staircase for access to the rooftop terrace and maybe finish a room in the attic for that access, but I don't think I'll do those right away.
@@aroundtheworldwithmike Keep in mind that if you need to add a staircase, you must request permission from the local authorities for any changes to the house. My advice is to consult a specialized firm. Good luck.

Thank you! I'm happy to send you Paola's contact info, but in Italy they do things a little different. The realtor represents the seller and buyer. So if you are just dealing with one realtor, you will only see the properties they are representing. You'll need to find a property you like and then contact the agent that is selling that property.
Actually, Paola does not speak English. On the tours in person we were able to communicate ok and used some Google Translate at times. Otherwise we've been communicating through texting on WhatsApp that has a built in translator. I type in English and she sees Italian and I presume vice versa for her. I contacted the agent about that property after your video where you said someone else had tried to undercut you, but I made it very clear I didn’t want to explore it unless you decided not to. We waited to hear what you did, so I’m glad to hear that you decided to move ahead with it. Those floors are beautiful and that cellar is going to be amazing.
Wow! Thank you so much. I really appreciate that level of respect and consideration. If you find yourself in the area, come on over for a bottle of wine on the rooftop with me. Cheers to you!
It was my favorite place of all three!
Congratulations.
Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting it setup and living the dolce vita. 😊
ok, you are fun. this is my first time to see you, so I have a lot of questions. will you be giving tips or school people on how to do what you did? I'm gonna watch now. thanks a lot.
Congrats on your purchase! You are too funny with your replication of international house hunters decision making! 😂
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. 😅
That tile, the view😍
I love it!
Congratulations 🎉🎉
😊
❤ congratulations my dream is to live in Sicily but I don’t know Italian and sure I could learn but it would be hard so for now I will just dream and visit
Dreams and visits are good too.
Congratulations....
Thanks!
Great news, Mike! So exciting! Bummer about the ascot.
An ascot might be appropriate for this place when on the rooftop terrace sipping a glass of Barolo. Stay tuned. 😊
@@aroundtheworldwithmike😂 It would be the perfect complement to a Campari spritz.
I'm ordering one on Amazon now. 😅
@@aroundtheworldwithmike I can't wait!
Mike, congrats! please share real estate agent infirmation.
New sub. You have more viewers than sub. Greeting from Australia 🌞
G'day. 😅
Congratulations, sounds like it was meant to be.
I think so too. 😊
Italians often empty the entire property including the kitchen units and light fixtures so never assume you're getting anything you see inside. Put it in writing!
Yep, we've already negotiated that everything will be included and it's in the contract. Thanks for your tip.
Why not renting out the 2nd apartment permanently? There will be someone to look after the house when you are absent.
🎉🎉🎉
😅
Too funny...your talking to yourself!!!!you need to make more friends while in Italy 🇮🇹..lol😅
😅 That's a fact.
Well done make fair play , l bought a place 2 months ago 1 town over from where tou are , so we will have to catch up Nd go for a bike ride , and a spritz,
Congratulations! That sounds great. Let's definitely do that.
@@aroundtheworldwithmike perfect l be back over there around last August, lm sure we catch up then , l normally have coffee alot at cafe at bottom of your hill , so lm sure we will share a laugh and bike tales there , great location mate , well down 👊
@darrenfitzpatrick9518 That sounds great! Let's plan on it.
Exciting! Happy to hear everything worked out. More thoughts soon…watching the video
Can't wait!
I can't go back a few videos, but not 5 months. Please can you tell us the name of the town in the Piedmont region?
Hello. Will you plan on living only part time or full time? Can you do a video on why u chose that location? Thx
Just part time for now. I'll keep my place in Colorado for now. That's a great idea for an episode. I've talked about it over the entire process, but it makes sense to explain once again how I decided on the Piedmont region out of the 20 very diverse regions of Italy. Stay tuned.
Right choice man - congratulations - where is it and how much was it - who i the agent?
Thanks. I mention it in some comments. You might have to search a bit though.
@@aroundtheworldwithmike to difficult to answer 😵
That sounds like fun. I love hockey too. Go Avalanche! 😅
Auguriiii
😊
Congrats! Is it in the Piedmont area and how much did you pay? 😊
Yep, it's in Monferrato. I talk about the pricing in this video: th-cam.com/video/gzFj9EIDfEc/w-d-xo.html
Congrats! Will u move there full time?
Thank you. Just part time for now. I can stay 90 out of 180 days. So I'm thinking 90 days in the early spring and 90 days in the fall.
I guessed it right. Number Two had the original chimintina flooring, garage, star ceilings and that view-chef’s kiss! So happy for you!!
Yeah, it definitely checks all the boxes. Thank you!
Hi Mike , did you have to pay the asking price or did you negotiate a lower price ?
The sellers were pretty motivated and the price was flexible. It had been priced at 95,000 previously. It was at 85,000 when I looked at it. I got it for 65,000. But there are pretty high taxes on this property due to it's value from the municipality. So after taxes and fees it will be closer to 80,000 (all prices in Euros).
@@aroundtheworldwithmike that’s a great deal congratulations buddy !
Thanks! I talk more about the price in this episode: th-cam.com/video/gzFj9EIDfEc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the entertainment value. fun to watch but I need research info. Just didn't get anything of value as far as a good area in the entire Piedmont, town, anything. Thanks

I’ll be right there 😂

@@aroundtheworldwithmike I think I flirted. Not on purpose though. 🙀🙀
😅
So where is it???
Monferrato.
Congratz Mike, one question can you buy a bike in italy if you are American, i know you can not buy a car
How much did you pay for the property?
Let's just say I feel that I got a good deal. 😂
Hi, I was born and raised in Italy. Get ready for some major headaches when it comes to renovating a house. The bureaucracy in Italy is a nightmare
Good luck.
Great advice. I definitely wouldn't intend to try and do it on my own. I'll leave it to the professionals.

Congratulations, how beautiful. Do you have a contact link for the realtor please. Looking for a place to retire. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm happy to send you Paola's contact info, but in Italy they do things a little different. The realtor represents the seller and buyer. So if you are just dealing with one realtor, you will only see the properties they are representing. You'll need to find a property you like and then contact the agent that is selling that property.
That "other guy" has to be David Benton.
I think David is in Abruzzo. I don't believe I've met him.
@@aroundtheworldwithmike Yeah. I later realized you weren't talking about Pennapiedimonte, but Piedmont.
Exciting news, the lovely tiled floors and the balcony view is definitely a bonus. Congratulations.

Congrats! New subscriber. What town is your house located in Italy 🇮🇹
It's in Monferrato.
Congratulations! I'm so excited to follow this journey!
Thank you. I'm glad to have you along for the ride. 😊
Congrats 🎊🍾🎈🎉
Thank you.😊
What region did you buy in? The name of the town?
The Piedmont region. It's in the area called Monferrato.
Do you think you could share your realtor information? I assume an English speaking realtor. Even a website or agency name. With much appreciation.
Actually, Paola does not speak English. On the tours in person we were able to communicate ok and used some Google Translate at times. Otherwise we've been communicating through texting on WhatsApp that has a built in translator. I type in English and she sees Italian and I presume vice versa for her. Her website is www.immobiliare.it/agenzie-immobiliari/176549/r-p-montemagno/
