Thanks - I really like Joe's teaching! She is in a dutch gag... been getting a bit too keen in a snaffle recently! Although she was pretty chilled in this lesson :-) x
Mostly it was just a chance for Joe to access us and think about how he can help. We did work on getting the right canter (quiet, not too fast but still energised) and improving her technique over a fence (hence getting in deeper to the jump to get her jumping UP rather than flat and forward - that's why we only did upright jumps, nothing wide to tempt her to jump forward). He also tested my steering with the dog leg (not great) and riding doubles etc having got a good canter. Quite technical!
I didn't know what to call that :) Just jumping across the diagonal - like changing rein across the diagonal. The challenge is getting the turn off the track right and landing on the right leg.
How many strides is there between the ground poles and the uprights? I don't know anything my about jumping because I mainly do dressage and my horses saddle needs a refit so I have been using her eventing saddle she is on full loan to me and was an eventer but hasn't jumped for a few months and I tried the other day and she has gotten lazy and just steps over she doesn't properly jump from behind or lift properly and is extremely on the forehand when she lands so I'm thinking of doing some of these and need help! Anyone got any tips? Thx
+Newforest “Newforestmare” Mare I think it was thee strides between the uprights (my memory is failing). I always like to use bounces to get them lifting more in front and sitting on their hocks - might be worth trying with your mare? Best wishes with it :) x
Newforest Mare hi! Here are some tips I think might help.... Try do trotting poles with your mare to lift her legs (daily) Do cross poles/rails (often) If your mare bolts at the jumps just put a pole on the ground and don't move an inch... I know it sounds stupid but I tried it and it worked! My instructor makes me ride this beautiful piebald "Puzzle" he has a easy trot, but i never cantered in my life, well I am a bit young.... (I have been riding horses since I was four and I am now nine and still enjoy these simple lessons) Are you nervous jumping her? Dont be, that's what your horse will feel I hope these helped probably not but good lucky with your mare! :D
Your an amazing rider! :D Even when Pigeon was being naughty (running out) you still got her across it the second time :) I love watching your x country videos, the headcam is brilliant!

Not so sure about that. I'm only human... and we all have our moments. I just keep mine to when the camera is not rolling - lol :)
I hate dog legs they are really hard for me as my pony rushes after jumps 😬😬 it's practically impossible 😂😂
She 16 hands Lydia!
H need to be more forward at times
I hate dog legs.
It's not funny when your horse refuses the jump
Don't hate on her! It's just her opinion! Well done Alex and pigeon!
