During the last fifty/sixty years we have been privileged to be around to see and hear the likes of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Rolling Stones Roy Orbison etc. Not only was their talent superb, but with the recordings both visual and audio, we and future generations, will be able to relive their finest renditions. There may well have been other great artists before but sadly their efforts are now lost forever due to poor or none existent recordings! And finally with the loss of Jerry Lee Lewis, are we seeing the end of what must surely have been the most exciting period of popular music ever, for those of us that have had the privilege of seeing and listening to ?
Except for Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee had as much raw talent as any others in that era, outside of those two original rock 'n rollers! Elvis was not a songwriter, which puts him on a slightly lower level from a singer-songwriter as the two best of Buddy and Chuck. Jerry Lee is 3rd, as he tore up the piano, as Chuck tore up the guitar. Elvis was the best pure singer, and most magnetic of anyone on-stage, which is why he is so highly rated. But he had no other raw talent; he was the showman of the original rockers! Jerry Lee was almost at Elvis' level when on-stage!!! Rick Nelson was also in that original, raw exciting rocker who got the genre rolling! R.I.P. to all of them, as they were the original rockers who charted the course to make it the great era most of us old enough to remember, or get into from the early-'60s, pre-Beatles.
