The Killer, Jerry Lee, performs his 1968 Top Ten hit, "Another Place, Another Time". It led to a series of Top Ten singles including the 1968 number-one country single "To Make Love Sweeter For You" • Jerry Lee Lewis - To M... , which brought Lewis renewed music stardom. His shift to country reflected the fact that he had grown up listening to the Grand Ole Opry. Another country hit of Lewis's during this period was "What's Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made A Loser Out of Me)," • Video
Lewis was born to the poor family of Elmo and Mamie Lewis in Ferriday in Concordia Parish in eastern Louisiana, and began playing piano in his youth with his two cousins, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart.

There was no-one like Jerry Lee even then. None of the other C&W singers in those days, except Ray Charles, managed to persuade me that they were actually feeling the things they were singing about, not even the women singers like Patsy Cline.

You ask what it was about these wonderfully talenated entertainers, it was that they were real, their voices were real, there talents were real, what you saw and heard was what you got. These days, it's all techno, all about some 12 year old being made to look 20, with a voice elctronically enhanced. Thank goodness for you tube and all the incredible people who captured these very real people, and kept this footage, or we'd have nothing to remind us what real talent is. I love it all.

Absolutely 100% agree. If you like a song by any artist and want to hear the best version just check if JLL recorded and there you are. As good a singer as he is piano player. Plus he adds bits, changes it here and there, each subtly improving it and making it unmistakably a Killer song. One of a kind. The greatest artist of modern American music hands down. And he’s still doing it in 2020 !

I'm with you 100% on his voice, the beste ver in th Country field for conveying emtions. I canna think of any popular music pianist that came up to his standard. I don't know about technique although it was obviously pretty good, but his playing dovetailed so superbly with his vocals. He must have been highly regarded to have been able to do so much piano session work after his marriage to his young cousin ended his initial Rock'n'Roll stardom.

at the 57 second mark he starts a sustained trill with his right hand and sings over it flawlessly. Happy Birthday Jerry Lee.

Jerry had three advantages over most all men: a unsurpassed voice, the ability to play the piano and a head of hair most men envied.

This is my favorite country song from Jerry Lee and one of his best live performances I've ever seen. This live version sounds so good it almost duplicates the studio recording. Jerry Lee Lewis is definitley one of my musical heroes, it seems like I've been listening to him forever!

You have just listened to one of the truly Greatest singers we have ever had. What was it about the 50S and 60S that produced these once in a life time talents? What an era that was. There will never, ever, be another era like that one.

For whatever reason, I wasn't aware of JLL's country stylings. Recently I started listening to it and I'm freaked at how incredible it is. I guess I thought his stuff after Sun wasn't worth listening to. What a dope I am! Country Music Hall of Fame - what are you waiting for???

I saw Jerry Lee in 1968 at Keil Auditorium live. He played the piano with every part of his body. Great entertainer and great singer. Will never forget it. What a great loss at his passing.

Please forgive me. I' m having trouble typing with the tears in my eyes for a great talent. Listen to his library. This man was the phenom . Love just kinda killed it for him. The news media didn' t get it. Broke him. Back then 13 was an age to marry. Hell people a 2nd cousin wasn' t a kin. Too sad. JLW you still rock and country.

  • @GeneStewart71269

This particular song is one of Jerry Lee's greatest "pure country" recordings! He pivoted from rock to country to salvage his career after a marriage to his 13 year old cousin. Not many artists could accomplish what the Killer did and this prolonged his career and made him into a legend in his own time! My band and I opened for Jerry Lee early in his career in West Monroe, Louisiana (May 1959) when he had a few singles out including his "Whole Lot of Shakin', etc. The Ferriday,LA Wildman!!!!
