    Awesome will have to get one. I just got my festool square from fctools and love it. Just waiting on my Makita base plate as well. Both I have bought just because you have it. But I am extremely impressed so far. Makes life easier well done and thanks for another great demo.

    Hi Andy totally agree with your identification of the culprit ‘pencil line’ combined with lateral drift as the cause of Domino misalignment, anyone using the Domino for any length of time will know this, Franks jig eliminates both of these problems … anyone who can do that IS a game changer IMO so I placed my order… thanks again for your continued great content

    Hi Andy, Regarding the dominos been a tight fit. Cant you stick a hand full in a cup and heat them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to take the moisture out of them which in turn makes them ever so slightly smaller which results in them a bit easier to remove,

    Cook bit of kit - but I'm not sure what problem it's solving. Using a Domiplate and one tight slot registered off an edge, I don't have a problem with alignment (aside from fine tuning for inconsistent material thickness).
    @ 13:40 - if the tool is shifting side to side as you plunge, you're plunging too fast (and/or you have a dull bit).

    I helped Frank develop the large XL plate, i think if you add a 5mm shim to the 500 the will have the same reference so you could have one machine for each plunge vertical and horizontal.

    • @ManorWood
      @ManorWood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So add 5mm to the 500 for vertical ?

    • @taylor22270
      @taylor22270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manor Wood Hi Andy, just watched the video again because I’ve never used the DAJ, if you use the DF700 for the horizontal plunge and the 500 for the vertical I think that works without any additional shimming. The DCS XL accounts for the 5mm difference in the original machine base. Let me know if you can try a test cut ?👍🏻

    • @ManorWood

    Humidity makes dominos swell so keep them sealed and dry. Test fits are no issue. Jig looks handy but too much setup for what's really needed, pencil lines with one tight domino and rest loose has worked for years perfectly and quick. Always many methods to same result, but slower and more cumbersome setups are just not needed or desired. That jig would be a nightmare on large cabinetry.

    Hey Andy, this looks just like the Seneca Domiplate offered here in the USA. I did a video on it on my channel if you want to view it. Its a very similar system, and is deadly accurate. Eliminates fence drift which seems to be the dominos biggest enemy, wether your fence is a little loose, or you don't have enough surface area to stay stable while plunging vertically. They offer it for nominal material such as plywood, and you can get 2 settings with one plate (just flip it over) and it is offset. Extremely handy tool, especially for cabinetry. Honestly can't go without it now!

    • @ManorWood
      @ManorWood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard about the Domiplate do they also the alignment Jig? For me it the combination of them they made me both with the plate . I haven’t had any fence drift on my 500 or 700 the thought of not having to mark out all the mid placed DOMINO’s in a wardrobe or tall larder just wish I’d had it the other day when I made a TV lift unit with shelves for CDs so many dominoes to align

    • @blacklabelcarpentry
      @blacklabelcarpentry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ManorWood No alignment jig, not that im aware of. No issues plunging horizontal or vertical, but of course you'd have to mark your workpiece to know where to plunge. Maybe a story stick would be a solution to that for me

      🤔 , good advice. Never knew they sold it separately. Are you 100% about that? I live in the U.S and never once seen it sold as a separate part. What county are you in? If you don’t mind me asking.

    • @gentleimpact3580
      @gentleimpact3580 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      P F the parts are not openly sold as separate units in a store, but any dealer can order spare parts from Festool. Their website features what is called the EKAT which is a German abbreviation for Electronical Parts Catalog. You can get all the part numbers needed from there and just order via your local dealer or an online equivalent.

    I believe, based on Peter Millard's review, that if your stock isn't exactly 18mm or 12 mm then an edge to face joint won't be perfectly flush. Is that true? I notice that when doing the edge joint the pins didn't go all the way in the holes in the DAJ but more importantly the edge of the domino was flush against the board, however when doing the face cut using the replacement part it was flush against the DAJ. Does that have something to do with the end joint not being perfectly flush? If so then this too me is a huge design fault. I also think that having to change the base is very tedious. The Domiplate and a few stop blocks or even Festool's cross stop would achieve the same thing for a lot less money and time. Buyer beware!
