A Knight Rider fan has spent 10 years transforming a run down vehicle into the iconic car from the hit 1980s TV series. Scott Bainbridge shelled out more than £18,000 to a turn an unloved Pontiac Trans Am into his very own Kitt - the car driven by David Hasselhoff in the show. The 30-year-old postman bought the car in 2004 and started to re-create the sleek black vehicle - which even speaks in the voice of Kitt from the film. Postie Scott had to replace a lot of parts to get the Knight Rider model up to scratch - including fitting a new engine to the damaged vehicle.

If you want "turbo Boost" for your car.Try to get a turbo kit for the V-8.
If you could fit it in your budget. Try getting a complete 1987 Buick Grand National 3.8 liter V-6. Need a intercooler, computer, harness, 2004R transmission. Great fuel mileage. very responsive well mannered engine.
a couple bolt on components and a new chip. Easy 12 second quarter mile times.

Matt Swinehart turbo boost was referring to jumping over stuff lol. Ive spent enough money rebuilding the 5.7 TPI engine, ive also fitted hooker headers, uprated injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, AC delete, Emissions delete, and had a full stainless exhaust made so KITT moves pretty well when i want him too :) certainly good enough for what i use the car for anyway, im not into racing or going to the track etc
newcastleknight Actually, while it was VERY seldomly used in the show, there were times when Turbo Boost was just used for an added speed burst...which was typically if K.I.T.T. wasn't already on his speed-based Pursuit setting.

Beautiful work! As a 'Knight Rider' fan, this would be a dream to drive. I was just 12 when the pilot originally aired, and the series quickly became a favorite.

Probably about the best replica I've ever seen. KITT looks marvellous, so many of the details are spot on. The amount of time, dedication and work involved restoring and recreating the car is staggering. Having been a Knight Rider fan since I could walk and talk, I commend you. Like others have said, I also love the fact you share it with others, letting the little boy inside it to have a look, I think if someone had let me sit in the car they'd spent all that time and money on when I was younger I would have been over the moon!
That's freaking amazing. I love so much that you did this. The time and effort, is phenomenal. I love Kitt so much, this is awesome and makes my heart happy knowing it's out there in the world!!
The show ran from '82 to '86. Myself being born in '80 i must have caught the repeats. However, knight rider was one of my favorite shows of the 80s, coming 2nd to Macguyver which was my #1.
I also had my picture taken in K.I.T.T when i was 6 or 7 when the car appeared on show in a mall in my town (Quite probably a replica i imagine). The example in this vid is awesome, especially to have the car talk in the original voice of William Daniels.

Agreed sir. I was born in 81 and i grew up watching Knight Rider. It was a show that resinates in me and its one of my best memories of my childhood. I was so upset when they remade it and turned K.I.T.T into a freakin mustang. Not that a mustang is bad but it ISNT K.I.T.T. especially since they used Val Kilmer to voice the new car.
In India Knight Rider was aired in 94-96 KITT instantly became fantasy car of every child who grew up in 90's love it even today
The remake of Knight Rider in 2008 was flop but new successor was Shelby Cobra was also amazing

Definitely not suitable for a learner. Instructors just love to tell you to always keep both hands on the wheel, and especially during turns to do the push-grab-pull-grab thing where at least one hand is holding the wheel at any time.
On the original the front face of the wheel was less "upright" and more like a 45 degree angle which helps clearance against your legs.
great hobby project. Costs are irelevant, the joy it gives are countless.

Much prefer the old American style cars they look much nicer than the modern day versions.
+Jabbypants Personally I prefer the 70's Trans-Ams. The ones used in theSmokey & the Bandit films. They had a more curvy look to them. Still, thisguy has done a really good job building this Knight Rider replica. My favouritetv car was the Starsky Gran Torino. Wow, what a head turner, saw one at acar show some years back. Love those old 70's Yank tanks.

Facts
1984, I got my photo taken in a KITT at the local shopping center. Cost me $5. Still got the photo to this day :)
1990, i got my photo taken in a KITT in Universal Studios Hollywood with my best mate at the time. Our mums took us to the states for summer break and we stayed with my aunt's family in LA. My mate and i both still have the photo. :D
Tweekend27 dang that sounds awesome but i was born in 2005 so i missed out on a lot of cool and awesome things that happened before i was born, i still wish i can have my very own picture with KITT but now u cant find him coz the show is not airing anymore

Nice! I saw one while driving home in Brooklyn. The factory owner owns a Knight rider Mod car. I immediately pulled over to take photos of it. It was the season 4 car and interior with super pursuit mode mod in it as well. He spent about 45,000 on it.
