      Oh that's so wonderful Rinzky, congratulations! Thank you so much for sharing that with us! If you have a picture or video of you riding we'd love to see it! Many folx assume that if they didn't start riding when they were a child it is too late to learn, so we'd love to promote your success if you'd be willing to email us at info@cascade.org.

    good video . For many this comes naturally but there are also many many people that do not have good body awareness and for those this simple tutorial can make a big difference in learning .
    i taught myself how to ride when i was four years old . after a few hours of crashing with cuts and bruises i ran to my mother to tell her the good news . she freaked out when she saw the blood .😂

    I did not know where to put my second leg once the first foot was on the pedal. This is the thing no one told me that I needed to be told 😃.
    Now I put my second feet on the pedal once I find my balance. I can do it more smoothly than I was doing before which helps me keep my balance ☺️☺️☺️

    45 years old and never learned to ride. Getting comfortable to scoot and coast. Also picking feet up while doing so. I'm just not balanced enough for the next step your showed. I'll get there. I also have to get used to braking, moreso on the rear tire.

    Hi.. Your videos are really good. What to do if my seat is little high and I can't put my two feet flat and straight on the ground (I can keep only one foot straight and that is also a little tough at first )

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it isn't possible to put both your feet on the ground it would be helpful to find a VERY small hill to use a bit of that gravity to get you going. I'd also work on braking more towards the beginning, to help you feel confident and in-control of that hill.

    I've got scoliosis and have struggled with balance issues because of this. I tried riding a bike, but couldn't get good balance, so I've got an adult folding trike which is great to ride but terribly heavy to lift in and out of our house! Just wondered if there is any way I could improve my balance problems, would it work if I tried walking while sitting on a bike as you have demonstrated? I really need some regular good exercise, just wondering how to solve this problem. Thank you so much for your excellent videos!

    Hi Amy great video ...trying to bike after 30 years...oufff
    Was wondering I'm having trouble getting my 2nd leg high enough to pedal
    I do have a low seat bcs want to sit on seat to touch the ground...
    How can I get my 2nd foot on pedal when it's at noon?
    Thnks

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raising your saddle might help a little bit. Try checking out this bike fit video to see what a good saddle height will look like eventually- th-cam.com/video/wK19gJAEzlI/w-d-xo.html. There is no pressure to move it that high right away though- just whatever you are comfortable with. And having it a little heigher will mean your knees don't have to come up so high.
      other than that, I think working on your leg mobility in general will be helpful- try stretching when you're on the ground and sitting on your bike with a hand on a wall so you can get both your legs on the pedals while you're not moving. Then you can peddle backwards and stretch out those muscles.

    Hi Amy, I really like your video. I'm 69, and have two replacement knees. If I have the saddle low I can't bend my knees enough to go over to top of the crank. If I have the saddle up higher then I can't really touch the floor. I haven't ridden two wheels for many years. Help

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike! Take a look at Louise's comment above and I would recommend many of the same things. While you're working on getting riding again, all the way up to the pedals, keep your seat nice and low. 90% of learning to ride a bike is done before the pedals are on.

    Does it make a difference?

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No difference at all! Start with whatever foot you feel most comfortable and after that you can start with whichever one you like :)

    Thanks Amy. I am 75 and just purchased an e bike but find I have some mobility issues. I can’t seem to get my leg high enough to put my second foot on the second peddle. Do you have any suggestions. I am probably a little nervous also but want to get over that. I wondered if I get some adult training wheels and also do leg exercises to gain more mobility.

    I start learning bike from yesterday but my waist not still upstraight when it's move then I start to fall what should I do😞

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The big thing is: give yourself more time! It might take a couple practice sessions to start to get it, but don't be discouraged! Depending on the style of your bike you may not be able to sit up straight but that it okay! Remember to keep your weight heavy on your seat and your core engaged so your arms can be nice and loose.

    Hi i have a problem when im scooting with my right foot on one pedal when im ready to put the other foot on the pedal the bike would suddenly go slant im trying to pull it up again while scooting but i just fell how to fix it

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Janielle! That is a sign that you may not be ready for that second foot yet- which is totally okay! Go back to pushing off with just the one foot, making sure you're giving a big push and can glide the rest of the distance before using your hand brakes. Make sure you can go the whole distance after that first big push. Doing this on a slight decline would be helpful as well. Once that becomes very comfortable, go down the incline again and now try with that second foot.

      Please don't feel discouraged! Everyone learns at different paces! Remember to keep your body loose and keep your eyes up. If you start getting too tense or frustrated, just take a break for the day. Learning to ride should be fun and not a punishment. You will get there!

    Taking the knee high is really really difficult and it's easy to lose balance for beginners during that motion. It's better to start from a position where only the toe tips touches the ground while you are on the saddle. That way it will be easier to use the second pedal straightaway. Scooting on a single pedal is really really difficult and anyone preaching it to people who are starting off is making things really difficult.
    Please stop.

    • @amyk6993
      @amyk6993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Vivek! Everyone learns differently so that could be a really helpful tip for some people! I've often noticed that when adults are learning for the first time it takes quite a bit to become comfortable with your feet not being able to reach the ground fully. The 'high knee' motion is definitely a lot more clumsy when you start but it helps folks to feel more secure with the saddle lower. If starting off with a higher saddle works for you and the folx you've taught, more power to you! Congratulations!

      Scooting a single pedal isn't that difficult. I learned how to bike in three one-hour attempts. Third one was the charm, I unknowingly picked an alley with a slight down slope; gaining a bit of speed after my initial push helped me figure out stability.
      Even with a lower bike seat, once I had balance figured out, pedaling was a breeze.
