  • In this video Prakshi learns to ride a bike for the first time! Watch as she goes step by step building up the skills to pedal on her own. With the help of an REI Experiences instructor she finally gives riding a go after wanting to for years. Watch this video to see how she does on her first day, and see how you can do it too!
Prakshi is a filmmaker who lives in the Minneapolis area. She is a talented writer, director and editor and now...bike rider!
Our Thanks to Joe Jackson, who was a patient and incredibly knowledgeable instructor!
This video also features Kevin Frias, who is an avid cyclist, Bikepacker and content creator who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kevin spends a great deal of time getting out on two wheels, exploring, pushing his own limits, and making it easier for others to do the same.
In his words, "My name is Kevin and I am passionate about sharing the outdoors with others! Currently, I execute that by going on adventures and sharing it on Instagram (@kevdoesinsta) and TH-cam (KevDoes). I want to energize people, especially people of color, to get outside and live their best life. I was born in the Bronx, NY and never knew about the life-changing force that you get from being outside so now I want to share that with everyone, and make the face of the outdoors a few shades darker."

Yay, Prakshi! I learned how to ride a bike in my late 20's. I never had access to safe, bikeable outdoor spaces and someone to teach me until well into adulthood. I appreciate REI shedding stigma around adults learning these types of skills.

This is so encouraging. I'm 31 and I never had a bike growing up except for a toy tricycle, and am going to sign up for a beginners' cycling class in April. I held off on it too long out of fear of embarrassment and that I was "too old to learn", but it was something I always wanted to do and I figured it was now or never.

In the past two years I have gotten back into bicycling in a big way. I just finished a tent camping bike tour but I am always riding alone which is boring at times. My partner never learned to ride but she wants to learn and I would love it if she could come with me on my tours. I am going to show her this video when she gets home from work. I'm hoping that it will really help to spark her interest in getting it all started. It was really cool to see Prakshi learn so quickly!

Hi. I'm trying to teach my wife. We bought a second hand bike and started practices. Her bike has shock absorbers so the seat does not go below a certain level and its feet do not touch the ground. Therefore, he cannot sit and pedal in the first place. Will this prevent him from learning?

I know this is old, but Im 16 learning how to ride a bike. Unfortunately my bike is too tall and only half my feet can touch the ground and I feel like thats the reason Im having so much trouble. I cant even propel myself properly with my feet or keep myself in balance, its so difficult for me to learn correctly. Is there any way I can learn when the bike is a but too tall for me, cause my bike seat wont go any lower :( i know this is a very difficult question but no adults will listen to me and rent me a bike that I can actually use
I hope you can help me
