Walmart Spark is Going Downhill Across The Country - Lack Of Offers, App Problems, & More

  • Walmart Spark has a lot of problems that have started up recently and have persisted for weeks. I was waiting to make this video with the hope that the app would be fixed but it's been too long and there hasn't been a change so it's time to get these problems brought to Walmart's attention.
    Issues are occurring such as not getting an order every hour even while sitting at a store, not seeing round-robin orders, driver's accounts getting throttled near the end of an incentive, and more.
    If any of these have been happening to you then submit an IT support ticket by calling the support phone number if you have the time.
    Let's try to flood their team with support tickets so they know that this is happening and they can fix the issue sooner.

    Everyone also needs to give a review of what is happening in the App Store and Google Play. Also, don't refer new drivers to the platform. It's great for Spark, but hurts the drivers with over-saturation. That $100 incentive isn't worth you getting less offers and making less money. THINK!!!!! People THINK!!!!

    This was always inevitable. Walmart has been trash for a long time and if they are known to treat their employees like crap why would we as contractors expect anything more?

      We do more than employees are required and I imagine it's cheaper for them than hiring a company to do their deliveries. I wish they would do more so I'm gonna start to run them through the mud if they keep it up.

      Yeah Walmart is garbage 🗑️ , they giving me 0.00 hours a weeks and they tell me the computer is making the schedules not people or managers . I am the first unemployed Walmart worker

    I have seen many of these problems. I've gone some days where I'll be available on the app for 8 hrs and not get a single offer. And I've tried turning it off and back on, logging in again, refreshing, parking outside walmart, etc etc. Nothing. I used to get many offers in a day and now will be lucky to see one or two small ones. And my metrics seen alot lower than they should be since I'm accepting damn near everything I'm lucky enough to actually get. Incentives are useless because I can't get enough orders to actually complete them.

    It used to be once you Rejected an offer versus letting it time out, you wouldn't see that offer again. This morning after rejecting an 11 mile round trip for $6.50, no tip, they sent it to me 5 more times!

      Yikes. Yeah i've been seeing this too. They changed it so you could reject an order and never see it again but it seems like that has been messed up again. Thanks for letting me know

    Your definitely right about the metrics. I’ve called support time after time about that, but I’m seeing a lot of orders. My round robins have seemed to live from 20 after to 15 after to 12 after the hour. The store I go to by my house I was told shuts down early due to labor so I travel to Cicero location. It seems busy here.

    This is very true. For the past few weeks this been going on. Today I waited two hours for an offer. I use to get multiple offers in an hour. Wow, hope this gets fixed soon, and we go back to the good old days. Please Walmart Spark

    I have heard there are people using bots to grab the best orders. If this is happening it should be addressed somehow. when an offer comes to my phone it is gone before it even displays.

      A big issue around the country is the "Cartels". Walmart system hacked/accessed using a Access Point Key. Top of the hour, Hacker sees, selects and assigns orders to themselves or drivers working under him.
      Pending applicant accounts or dormant accounts are accessed through the hack and given to illegal drivers to use and the store locations don't verify driver ID and the app can't do 3D facial scan ID check (not nationally yet due to failed beta testing)
      Customers are put at risk because - no vetting, background checks - the illegals know your house, your neighborhood, layout of your property, if you have dogs, young children, what times dad is at work.
      Big Federal, State and Local laws broken - Walmart not interested.

      @bernie018 I've been hearing a lot about bots as well. It needs to be addressed by Walmart because it's unfair and against driver terms. I've heard from some other drivers that orders are disappearing before they can be accepted. Are these just first come first serve/demand is high orders or are you not receiving Round Robin orders?

    I'm experiencing all the problems you addressed plus some dumb. The app will randomly send me orders that I didn't accept and try to make me accept them and I have to call in and have them take them off. Because I'm not gonna lower my matrix by doing it myself in the app. Because I didn't accept the order. Also, if you submit the report issue in the app where you can type out what's going on every hour, it seems like I'm telling them something is going on with the app. It's either spinning spinning spinning. Not letting you close out an order. Or it's doing exactly what you said, it's only sending me really, c*** offers no good offers, it's earth's, it's not sending me round. Robin's the biggest problem I have is that it's sending me orders consistently for a store that's almost 10 miles away that I've tried to get taken out of my zone, but they refused to remove it, and then yes, it's laughable that they want us to refer people I. Have no intention of referring anybody. There are plenty of drivers here in my zone and they're all suffering just like I am. I would also like to know that I also do Uber and some days. I make more taking Walmart orders through Uber. Better paying customers and honestly. I think that Walmart takes our money sometimes I really do I believe this I've had customer specifically tell me that they added money to my tip. These are customers that I have all the time. And I never have money added to my tip. I only get tips taken away at times and I don't believe it's just tip baiting. I really believe that there's something more nefarious going on. But maybe that's just me, LOL.

      The same thing is happening here. Myself and the other drivers we all talk about what's going on and are very upset. It seems as though a bot is in the system and throwing everything off. This happened to instacart 3 years ago maybe 4, orders were being taken and orders were able to be done under someone else's identity. And of course the groceries, LOL for sure they were not delivered.

    If you do submit a ticket, make sure you get a reference # and request spark customer service to EMAIL this to you as well.

    I have noticed that the pay the company pays is way less than what it was before Walmart bought Sparks. And if you’re not getting a tip to make your paycheck you’re not going to make any money. $6.50 for 59 items but yet 112 units with no tip is not worth driving. And also we are only getting one order an hour and then it could drop at 15 after all the way to 35 after the top of the hour. If you are not back in time from your other delivery, you’re not going to get another order. And I’ve noticed when you get a bulk order you’re only making three dollars per each one of those deliveries. I don’t know if everybody else is getting 12 and 16 GM orders to deliver, pay will be $32 but yet you have to drive 40 miles. Since Walmart has bought sparks it has really went downhill with the pay.

      In a batch order of 10 to 15 deliveries there must be people tipping. I have never seen a tip here. In my area it takes 1 hour to do up to only 6 deliveries. Walmart takes the tips ?

      @@bernie018 I have never received a tip doing a GM order multi batch. But what gets me, is when you have one person receiving three or four or five bags of groceries, even if it is dry goods, or canned goods. That needs to change. General merchandise should be, an ironing board, curling iron or a bag of dog food. And pay like it did before Sparks was purchased. The pay is not half of what it was.

      @sandraderringer3252 the GM orders with 5+ orders aren't eligible for tips. Also, Walmart has always owned Spark. It's their delivery service they created for the groceries. I think the problems started when walmart purchased DDI (delivery drivers inc) and since last year when that happened it's been a mess.

    It's been really bad lately. Now the orders hit somewhere around 34 min after the hour . I live 2.3 miles of 1 store, 3 miles/3.5 miles from the other two stores, No offers or just offers that look like they've been through others and were rejected ( so bad offers still). Maybe they've hired more drivers and they're getting the good offers, just not sure anymore. I know that when I started in January 2022, the offers were great and as time went by, they just seemed to be less frequent. Wanted to make this my main job but now I'm looking for alternatives.

    I've noticed that the offer have changed like you said but also, they have been adding more drop offs per offer and for less money and they are trying to make us drive alot further for less money

    I'm having issues getting orders but when I do it's always low pay and or no tip. I'm so sick of it and it's truly unfair to everyone. I really hope that with enough people we can make a change. This goes for all driving apps because DD And UE are the same way.

    I am near Orlando. I am getting more offers than ever. I was thinking everyone had just quit. Sometimes in the middle of the day there may be no orders but in the morning and after 2 PM there are almost always offers. Right now at 6:45 PM there are 6 orders that have all increase by $2 because no one has taken them in the last 15 minutes. There is one order for $12.61 that started at $8.61 and it is for 11 small items and a distance of 2,8 miles. There is another for 2 small orders at 6.8 miles for $20.52 and I just now took a $16.32 Shopping order for 11 small items and 4.2 miles.

    I have noticed many many new drivers in my area of florida...offers have been a bit smaller but have been doing ok still yet less then when snowbirds were here...
    Now the bot thing yes Def people using these taking the larger offers and checking in way way early...

      That's weird that Uber has Spark orders. I haven't seen any of these yet for some reason. I think something nefarious is going on with Walmart. They wouldn't be the first app to get a class action lawsuit because they are stealing tips and pay from drivers.

    I used to be able to make OK money in Burbank, CA, but recently the Spark platform has been a disaster. The last time I tried it I got one offer for a low dollar amount not at the store I was parked at in a 4 hour period. Something needs to be done, spark used to be so much better.

      I think they could be throttling drivers for their own profit. Hopefully more people let me know if this is the case so we can start a class action against Walmart

    The real problem is that people don't have to apply through spark to be able to work, now people rent accounts and they have to pay $150 to $200 a week. With those accounts, they are able to choose their offers, in Dallas we have 17 yearly olds working thorough spark. The face recognition was a complete joke because people without a driver's license can work using someone else's identity.

      This is a really interesting point that laws are being broken by Walmart. There should be some verification process like how Instacart asks to scan your ID and then do a facial scan. I noticed that Walmart got rid of their facial scan- I only had that happen twice and it's never happened again.
      I wonder who would have to file that complaint about laws being broken? The customer or drivers to get Walmart to fix their systems.
      Also, with the hacks- i've been seeing a lot of comments about this and I'm trying to find some proof of these hacks and bots.

      ​@@JustinMaxwellbiz Thanks for responding. Legally, I think the customer would have better standing. Customers have a "Reasonable Expectation of Safety". Similarly, if no "Wet Floor" sign is visible around freshly mopped floor, the store is liable if a customer is injured.. Their failed attempts at electronic methods of ID verification aren't a valid defense because it could be done simply - just have dispensers request to see driver ID. They're giving over customer data to a crime syndicate.
      When a reporter ask the gangster John Dillinger "Why do you rob banks?" He said "Because that's were the money is".
      The "Bots" story is full of grey area and a lot could be explained away using other valid reasons. I did not believe the "Hack" theory until I investigated and discovered how easy it is. A "C" student from a online University could do the hack or the Access Point can be purchased ($2,500-$5,000) for use. Think "Administrative Privileges". Ever had someone "remote in" to your computer to...say...fix a bug or solve a virus issue at work?
      You'll need to research it for yourself. It took me days of looking into the subject before I was convinced.
      Unless Walmart stops it, YOU WILL see these drivers in your zone soon. Reports are they're out of Florida. You may see a car with Florida temp tags or rental plates at a location first - scouting the zone for ID checks and value of deliveries. Then, the "worker bees" show up using multiple phones. The "bees" can have licence plates from any part of the country. They usually look personally "rough", almost homeless types. They'll run this scam until they're shown the door by a local manager deciding to implement ID checks...then they move on. *They actually came back to my zone weeks later when the store stopped ID checks.*
      Lawsuit??? Big question. Taking on Walmart isn't like suing a start up like Door Dash or even Amazon. It will take real courage from a powerful law firm to file the first claim but even then, using history as a guide, Walmart will get off with a slap on the wrist fine and move on. We'll all get $20 bucks and lawyers get the rest.

    I only get orders at the store now. And if I do get one it's around the 35 or 38 mark. Then pick up around 45 as usual.

    Thank you for your video because I these problems were because my acceptance rate is only 70%. This is due to getting orders from stores over 30 miles away, which thanks to you I called and had those stores blocked. I am calling support to file a ticket this morning!

      I wonder if it's possible to get Sam's blocked. Walmart dispenses orders @ :45 on the hour...Sam's on the hour. I know it's only a 15 min difference but Sam's doesn't load us till almost :15 after the hour. This results in missing a Walmart offer the next hour. So accepting Sam's orders actually cost us money.

    Justin, I'm not having difficulty with Spark. If I reject an offer, I virtually always immediately receive another one. My Round Robin orders consistently drop 20 to 30 minutes after the hour. My two Walmart stores are efficient at picking and loading orders. I rarely have to wait more than five (or at the extreme ten) minutes for my orders to be loaded into my car. Is Spark perfect? Of course not. But, I prefer it over DoorDash and Uber Eats.

    Justin, I just started about 2 weeks ago. I've only worked 4 times so far and with the exception of a Sunday, I'm getting 1 to less than 1 order per hour. I had 3 shop and deliver orders and 2 curbside pick up orders on Sunday. The last order I completed while trying to reach my incentive was a curbside stacked, no tip order for 7$, and a $10mno tip order before that. I saw in the comments that someone said drivers are using bots to get good orders. What is a bot and is that true? Also, do you know who decides which orders to give out to which drivers? I asked a Wal-Mart associate that brought out an order for me if it was busy and she looked at her phone and told me there were 3 orders coming in the 8pm hour and that the drivers could see these offers before hand and come to the store to take those orders. That didn't seem right to me. Is that true? What it did make me wonder though, if a an associate sees the orders and they have friends that do spark, can they alert them about the orders and then give them priority? The impression I got was that she slipped up and told me some drivers knew about the upcoming orders somehow and were coming to take them. I don't nt know why I was so busy on one day and then really slow (one order an hour or less) on all the rest. I have only had curbside and shop and deliver orders. I haven't seen any other kind so far. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      Hello, Thanks for letting me know that you have been seeing 1 or less orders an hour. A bot is essentially an app that allows people to get into the Spark system and assign orders to themselves. I'm not sure if it's true. I haven't found anything about bots but I've had some anecdotal information about people saying other drivers are using them.
      The spark system decides who gets what orders and it's based off of: Proximity to the store, metrics, etc. Drivers shouldn't be able to see the orders beforehand- the store will send out orders to drivers through a semi-automated process that Walmart set up for Spark delivery
      I have heard that associates can give people orders or cancel orders for drivers if they wanted to. I've gone over management's head before and had Spark support call the store and force them to dispense orders to me that I accepted that the manager didn't want to give me. So the store employees do have some power.

    The metrics problem has been happening to me for about 6 months now, so many support tickets and followthroughs and they have readjusted my metrics a few times before. You have to call multiple times and bother them for them to manually adjust that for you though its almost to the point its not worth it. Also bad customer ratings because of things out of your control are insane, a major issue spark knows about but doesnt bother to fix.

    Never put anything past Walmart to throttle drivers pay...The company is super dirty....and padding thier own pockets. I wouldn't be surprised if thier family members are getting all the best orders. You see ,they can blame it on the app and claim plausibility deniability.

    I’m in the city with 2 super Walmart and 7 neighborhood Walmart within a 20 minute range of each other, Sam’s, etc. and have been on the waitlist for six months and the other good apps

    Down to No offers. Takes about 5 hours. Then they send the 2 for $7 going 7 miles that I reject 5 times. Then they tank my AR. Been happening since I was at a 94%. It’s been about 6 months. Days of getting lucky. Call about everything. Just got told NOT TO REFUSE. I said I am a 1099. You cannot punish me for rejecting a sub-par proposal. She hung up.

    Don't see as many offers at one time...alot of round Robins sent to me...some really crappy some really good...but Def less offers whena certain driver is around...which is same one that continues to check in way before check in ...loaded and gone before other drivers can even check in.

    i’ve been experiencing a drastic change w less offers within the past 2 weeks now. i live in a small town so i should definitely be getting orders but i go HOURS without seeing ONE smh . i’ve called support multiple times, reported issues within the app, and had my issue escalated to IT but i’ve heard nothing from nobody and still no solution to this problem.

    Most of the time they pay the most for me because the customer pays a cash tip upon delivery.
    When you don't take the orders, you get less orders.

    I have called them and chatted with them so many times I’ve got enough tickets with my name on their walls 1:10 cover eight walls in their office eight orders. Accept the state canceled on their own one. I was already at the ladies house fixing to give it to her at night the lady on the phone told me if I did not take it back to the store they will take me off the platform and I have never canceled or ever been able to pay hhave a pay I don’t know what they think $.63 going to you can you know you can get new hubba Bubba with that and of course he didn’t know what have a Bubba was either he was a semi live in America.

    Very precise video. I'm in the midwest and have experienced all and sometimes normal algorithm.
    Facts:
    - Spark's demand has risen
    - Winter holidays season app is nuts with offers
    - The curbside associates may at times slow down sustainable hourly pay flow with delay order picks
    - Drivers need hourly flow; yet it's time short after completing a drop and heading back to same store for unsustainable offers + miday after lunch delay wait may = 1hr/$10 after complete
    - F/Time Drivers disperse and move around to make up the gaps for the hour (P/T have other employment they go home come back to work when their bored)
    - SPARK - Changes algorithm in app that creates a "Shuffle Effect not Weed n Seed"
    The shuffle, keeps all drivers on board, allowing a guarantee the Walmart always has drivers on standby including all the new hires that are eagerly willing to experience the beginning of Spark.
    =
    Spark, is now more like a necessary multi-app similar to UberEats if not less.
    Walmart knows there is a gap between curbside speed, demand, and drivers plentiful. Which is how Uber stays alive, large hire ratio of drivers = $6/ delivery like food. (Plentiful drivers very close to restaurants!)
    Thats why Walmart has implemented "Instant Payout" to compensate.
    Maybe the remodeling and better shopper experience project will expand and smooth the curbside operations; allowing more offers
    Spark maybe unsustainable for full time work alone now..?

    I’m getting more than one offer per hour but now much more. The pay has been cut drastically while the miles have gotten much longer. I was getting between $15-$25. Now I’m getting $6.50-$11. While the miles have gone from 1-5 miles to 3.5-13 miles. Who the hell is going to take an offer that’s $13 for 13 miles? Or more. This needs to be fixed immediately.

    When Round Robins do come in even though you don't get one your metrics will go down because to them they are sending them but we don't receive them. This has happened to me. Also there have been times my notifications say I have an order to accept but there will be nothing on my screen as if someone with a bot has taken it away from me. And yes I also have noticed there are times when I don't receive an offer for two to three hours. The same with not accepting the first order they send, if I don't accept that one I may not get another one for that hour. Also if I accept that order and it is for a small amount then all my orders will be small in pay. They are paying less every day for orders going for many miles. It is very frustrating for all of all of this when they did so good in the beginning. And why would we want to refer anybody when there are so many people out here as it is. It has become a fight every day just to make sure we make enough to cover our own expenses. They pay us to go from Walmart to the customer but not back to Walmart. So if your order is 10.00 for 10 miles we are actually making 10.00 for 20 miles which with gas prices we are losing money. I have also had to miss out on orders due to the app not recognizing that I am at the correct location so then I have to call to have them finish the trip on their end just so I can get back for another order but since most of them don't speak English it takes forever.

      @tracylake1433 This is true that metrics decrease even if you don't see the Round Robin order. I've had this happen and had a close friend tell me this is happening too. Sorry to hear that you aren't getting orders for hours sometimes and that you have to take the first offer you see also.

    Yes it's happening in Alexander City Alabama a small town, we have advance Auto is the other place to pick up but that's it. The drivers are struggling to get offers. I believe it's a management problem also, they are being known to block spark drivers from getting orders or causing them to wait long time, before they bring the orders out to them. I witnessed two incidents where management over order fill lied about the order and it was reported to the spark support and they witnessed the LIE.

      It's not just bots. A big issue around the country is the "Cartels" - a big one out of Miami btw.
      Walmart system hacked/accessed using a Access Point Key. Top of the hour, Hacker sees, selects and assigns orders to themselves or drivers working under him.
      Pending applicant accounts or dormant accounts are accessed through the hack and given to illegal drivers to use and the store locations don't verify driver ID and the app can't do 3D facial scan ID check (not nationally yet due to failed beta testing)
      Customers are put at risk because - no vetting, background checks - the illegals know your house, your neighborhood, layout of your property, if you have dogs, young children, what times dad is at work.
      Big Federal, State and Local laws broken - Walmart not interested.

    In SW Michigan close to the bordering state of Indiana. Our Zone consists of 4 Walmart stores + Sam’s Club. There are drivers from Indiana changing their zone to Michigan and using the Bot Apps to steal higher offers away from local resident drivers. A group of us have reported these drivers daily to Spark & Spark has done nothing to deactivate these drivers. We also have went to the local Walmart Management & Security to address this issue . Drivers are waiting hours & hours for offers but these Bot App users are consistently in & out of the store with offers every hour. When a Spark driver goes to accept an offer it disappears
    because Bot hackers are stealing the offers & giving them to the Bot users. They not only need to be deactivated but they should be prosecuted & thrown in jail!

      Ya I've been delivering out of Michigan City for awhile and something happened about a month ago and It's completely gone to S#it! I've filed a formal complaint to driver support and corporate. Now as soon as I check in they see my name and cancel my order or completely ignore me! Haven't had a shop and deliver in over a month now either. I can still deliver out of LaPorte but I've been black listed in Michigan City because they can't get there act together and I called them out on it. Almost not even worth doing anymore.

    I noticed my metrics were not changing but they we're reducing. I don't fully understand why they're choosing to do this in the app to the Spark drivers. Whether it too many drivers or if they're trying to put a cap on our earnings. I think some employers have gotten angry that people were leaving their job to do gig work. And maybe working underhanded to force people to go back to work.

      I've read all comments and yours definitely kept my attention by saying "Trying to put a cap on our earnings". You could not be more right about this. 100%. I've experienced that. Once I've reached a certain amount too early in the day, I've seen significantly fewer opportunities for me to make more during that day. They are going insane for seeing that we have the ability to make money on our own without them being able to control the amount that we can make. So, they are finding ways for us to make significantly less meanwhile our services allow them to make more on their customers. That's unfair.

      I noticed this too. I also have gotten a lot of orders with no tips when my acceptance rate is higher, which I thought was other way around. I also live 2.5 miles to the store I deliver to most, and if I turn it on at say 9 or 10am, I don’t get anything. I also seen other drivers get orders and not me.

    Spark has changed drastically over the past few weeks. The offers for the orders have been extremely low. I also have suddenly stopped getting ratings from customers. It’s very strange and weird. The most disappointing thing is the extremely low offers for batch orders. It really changed drastically after the last big incentive for me. Hasn’t been the same since last month or so.

    Customer service is telling me I have 82 expired offers today and I have only received four that have shown up on my app. My metrics are low every day are used to be super busy now I’m getting nothing and they’re dropping my acceptance rate for orders, I’m not actually getting I’ve been complaining about this for a month and nothing is happening. It’s happening to all of the drivers in my area.

    I'm in South Carolina and have noticed it being a little more slow this week but that's normal for my area during the last week of the month. I do get more shopping orders and the miles to pay ratio is good. The main issue in my zone is that some of the Walmarts still struggle with long wait times for the curbside orders.

    You realize a lot of the markets are getting over saturated with drivers? So when you drop your RR, there’s another driver ready to pick up your order. In my old market we had at least 10 drivers at any given time, full timers. Two whole families. And we still got incentives for adding more people. Even with all of us drivers waiting for orders, there were trash orders that weren’t being picked up. And then more drivers…
    The only time I’ve ever called driver support is when I had been sitting for 3 hours without orders. Because the backend system (confirmed with various support agents) would still show that I was on a delivery when it was completed.
    This was a horrible video.
