- A moment of silence for my channel...
Hello guys, here's a spooky reaction that I hope you enjoy. I'm actually doing two horror movies this october. I've never watched Halloween before and I didn't know the story behind Michael Myers, I only knew his name haha. This was a very interesting film, you can see a lot of tropes than became very popular later in horror cinema. Like I said in the video, the story is rather simple but the execution is brilliant.
#reaction #horror #halloween
"The way she's moaning and nothing is happening" made my day 😂
"I met him, 15 years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this... six-year-old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and... the blackest eyes - the Devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up, because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil."
Fun Fact: Shot in 20 days in the spring of 1978.
Fear Factor Fact: As the film was shot out of sequence, John Carpenter created a fear meter so that Jamie Lee Curtis would know what level of terror she should be exhibiting.
Unintended Trope Fact: John Carpenter and Debra Hill have stated many times over the years that they did not consciously set out to depict virginity as a way of defeating a rampaging killer. The reason why the horny teens all die is simply that they are so preoccupied with getting laid that they don't notice that there is a killer at large. On the other hand, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) spends a lot of time on her own and is therefore more alert.
Casting Notes Fact: John Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis, her theatrical debut, as the ultimate tribute to Alfred Hitchcock who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in Psycho (1960). The adult Michael Myers was portrayed by Nick Castle in almost every scene, except for some pick-up shots and the unmasking scene, where he was replaced by Tony Moran. Castle was a school-buddy of John Carpenter, and was on set just to watch the movie be filmed. It was at the suggestion of John Carpenter that he took up the role of Michael Myers, as he was tall and had what Carpenter considered an interesting walk. Castle admitted he was disappointed to not be the face shown, but understood that Carpenter wanted a more "angelic" face to juxtapose with Myers' ghastly deeds. Castle has gone on to become a successful director.
@Unintended Trope Fact: blame the 80s. At least 70% of the time, if you have to ask why things suck as much as they do, blame the 80s.
the shake of the camera during the jump scares made me giggle, but also made the reaction seem more real - loves it =)
Fun fact: in the 70&s the Oakland raiders had a sign that reads speeds kills

One cool thing about your reaction to this movie is the flip of the image, which really seemed to offer me a different perspective even though I’ve seen this movie so many times. I also think you would enjoy seeing the continuation of this night in the original Halloween 2.
LOL! "If you are dressed you repel the murders." That was hilarious! An such an astute observation about horror movies. Love it!
"He's in the bathroom reading a magazine!" That had me spewing coffee from my nose.
I watch all kinds of reviewers, but Amanda is my favorite...and I just discovered her this week (thanks to Halloween, one of my favorite movies). I have binged watched over the past few days (Godfather, Back the Future, and many others). Watching from the USA / Virginia (I noted this because she asked in a video to let her know where we are watching from). Love you Amanda! Please keep making videos.
Your reactions are the best, and the one for Midsommar is now officially "legendary" status.
At 09:29-09:30 you can see a smoke ring floating next to Annies head. That was John Carpenter himself chain-smoking behind the camera XD
Some fun facts, the little girl Lindsey is one of the Beverly Hills Housewives (Kyle). Also, the movie is supposed to be set in Illiniois, but it is actually filmed in Pasadena, California. They had a hard time conveying the fact that it was Fall with the often sunny skies and lack of folliage. So they had to use a lot of smoke machines and drop dead leaves in front of the camera by hand.
They actually painted the leaves and one of the crew had to pick them up to reuse them. If you look in the background there are palm trees 😊
Halloween cemented many of the horror movie tropes taken for granted today. 911 didn't exist in 1978. To call the police or the fire department required dialing all seven numbers and that could take several seconds to do on a rotary phone. Carpenter made this before he made The Thing, which is a remake of a sci-fi movie from 1951, The Thing From Another Planet.
the other movie in the movie is Forbidden Planet staring Leslie Neilsen as the main lead
I really really love all of your reactions to all of the movies. And I really enjoy your reaction to this movie. And you are a lot of fun watching movies with.
10:26 Well that's the thing about this movie, the story takes place on Halloween! That means seeing people with masks or dressed in costumes doesn't concern anyone - and when one of all those dressed up people is an actual killer, noone would notice, at least not immediately. That's why the protagonists are more confused than concerned at first and that's what makes this situation so scary. ^^
Hey! I just watched your Gran Torino and Shawshank Redemption reactions, and I want to recommend that you do a video on The Elephant Man (1980). It's a really sweet and endearing film but also very tragic and soul crushing.
David Lynch is my favourite film maker 😚👌
This movie created a lot of the tropes and standards that later horror movies built on.
It must be spooky season, because when else can I see someone dressed for a funeral and have my first reaction be "Qué linda!"
Mur Duhed is phonetically how I say that word. You did a great job. Look forward to your next 😊

Someone probably already answered this, but Jamie Lee Curtis turned 20 in November 1978 so she was 19 when they filmed it (in May).
So JLC is 64 (soon 65) and still hot. Don't we just hate people like that? Well, of course we can't hate Curtis. She's just too lovely!

You are absolutely hilarious
You've already reacted to The Thing, so I'll skip that.
Other John Carpenter tips:
1981 - Escape from New York (With Kurt Russell in the lead as Snake Plissken.)
1986 - Big Trouble in Little China (Also with K Russell. Him and Carpenter work well together.)
1988 - They Live (Has one of the best, and funniest, fighting scenes in movie history.)
1994 - In the Mouth of Madness (Together with The Thing and 1987's Prince of Darkness*, this ends Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy.)
1998 - Vampires (Dirty and gritty vampires. Kind of similar to them in The Lost Boys. Not very glamorous or sexy.)
* Prince of Darkness isn't a favorite Carpenter movie, and the "trilogy"-movies has no real connection other than the apocalyptic theme. So you can watch In the Mouth of Madness as a standalone movie. You don't even need to remember anything from The Thing.
In the Mouth of Madness is my absolute favorite of his movies.
Regardless of which of the many, MANY sequel paths you can follow, it's all downhill from here.
"I think Halloween 2 is an abomination and a horrible movie." -John Carpenter
She looks like a young Natalie merchant.
If you want a greatly terrifying movie to watch... Martyrs is a French film... yeash... not for the faint of heart
Gross out fest
Very cool outfit and intro. Very pretty
They were watching The Thing on TV?
But that movie premiered in 1982, four years after this movie. How does that work?
That's simple the movie on the TV is The Thing from another World from the 1950s. Here's the basic rundown first there was a story called Who Goes There then the movie The Thing from another World is based on that story Who Goes There. Then John Carpenter made his movie The Thing staying more true to the source material the story Who Goes There. Then a prequel to John Carpenters The Thing movie.
First prize going to @@83shadow3 ! :D
John Carpenter has said it was his favorite movie too. I always wondered if he just liked the design of the title credits in the movie, or if he wanted to mess with people's heads with the TV scene.
By 1982 this movie was quite popular, so he may have planted a seed of confusion by choice.
Hi Amanda!😊 "Halloween II" (1981) begins moments after this film ends. You could really call it "Part II". You should really watch it, and you may get some answers you are looking for. Great reactions to the original Halloween, Amanda!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
Terrible suggestion. Part II completely taints and ruins the franchise going forward with the Brother/Sister connection. It's the worst sequel. Laurie is just pathetic! Not my Final Girl!
@@Nicolas.Vincent No what hurts this movie franchise is all of the different timelines. I mean it goes H ,H2 ,H4 ,H5 an H6 for one timeline. Then H ,Hh20 then H Resurrection for another timeline. Then H , H 2018 , H kills then H ends. That's 3 different timelines not including the Rod Zombie remake an its sequel. This is what hurts this movie franchise. You can't sit down an watch all of them in order an have it made any sense. You need a road map to know what movie is connected to what movie.
@@83shadow3 I find the franchise to be the most pretentious and un-fun of any and all Horror franchises.

@@Nicolas.Vincent Of course John Carpenter said those words, but it didn't stop the cult following. I'm a fan of the original 1978 film, and that's my reason for viewing this vid.

Or will it be some sort of undead zombie channel? Either way it will be properly Halloween themed.

John Carpenter often writes (and perform) his own music for his movies.
He's one of those movie makers that writes scripts and produces his own movies too. He's even had some tiny roles (usually uncredited) in them too. If you put him on a desert island with enough equipment, he'll have a couple of movies done when you rescue him. :D Not sure if he's done any editing since the 1976 Assault on Precinct 13 though...
He's retired from Directing.
Well, if someone deserves it it's him. But he wouldn't be the first to come back from retirement if he did.
I just wish him a long happy retirement.

Halloween was inspired by Psycho. When creating Halloween, Carpenter took major inspiration from the Hitchcock classic in terms of story structure, cinematography, and scares this is why you don't really see any blood or gore in this movie. With the persuasion of executive producer Irwin Yablans, Carpenter set out to channel a Hitchcockian thriller dripping with suspense rather than blood.
Halloween was also inspired by Black Christmas
Other films that inspired Halloween were the Italian giallo films, of which John Carpenter was a HUGE fan. Those films usually had a shadowy, faceless villain dressed in a leather overcoat, wielding a knife. Also, the scene where Laurie runs from house to house from Michael is almost a frame by frame copy of a scene from Night of the Living Dead. Halloween drew inspiration from lots of great horror flicks.
Black Christmas inspired.
@@dannyropero4216 What scene from Night has a character running from house to house? 🤔
Actually here's what the inspiration was for the movie this comes from. This information comes from two places first. The Shout/ Scream Factory Collector's Edition of Black Christmas 1974. On the audio commentary an bonus features with its writer and director Bob Clark. He tells the story of telling a young John Carpenter who asked him if was was going to make a sequel to Black Christmas. How would he go about it Bob Clark said he would have the killer get arrested and sent to a mental hospital. Then a year later he would escape the mental hospital an stalk an kill more girls from that same sorority. This would happen in October.
Then just a few years later John Carpenter released a movie. About a psychopath that escapes a mental hospital an stalks and kills wemon in October. So John Carpenter basically got the story plot from Bob Clark. Because that was the hypothetical sequel story plot for the sequel to Black Christmas 1974.
Now for the inspiration for Michael Myers himself. This information comes from the audio commentary on John Carpenter's original Halloween on Blu-ray. On that audio commentary John Carpenter said when he was on a school trip. They went to a mental hospital an he seen a hospital patient that just looked at people. With black emotionless eyes that looked like their was nothing behind them. So that patient was the real inspiration for Michael Myers. It had nothing to do with the movie Psycho or any other movies.
Got it now. Be a nurd. Wait until at least 20yo to have sex and always wear clothes. Amanda's rules of avoiding crazy killers. 😆
Halloween II begins on the same night where the original ends.
...and ruins the entire franchise 😂
@@Nicolas.Vincent No, Halloween Resurrection and Halloween Ends ruined the entire franchise
@@tider77 No, everything past Part 1 is a total joke failure. They ruined every following installment with the Brother/Sister, family ties crap. Halloween takes itself way to seriously for what it actually is, and is the single most pretentious Horror franchise ever in existence. They're all crap man. 4 is OK, but not very. 6 is a fkn insult! Just a culmination of bad and lazy writing....They're all crap! I like Resurrection because it always pisses off "true" Halloween franchise fans, and I liked how they crushed Mysers immortal skull in Ends. H40 was again, a total pretentious joke, Kills was at least entertaining. "Trick or Treat, Mu'Fka!" 😂
@@Nicolas.Vincent I completely disagree again. I understand the idea of leaving the reasons of Michaels actions a mystery but the brother/sister thing gave the story a reason. And by the way, good job in giving away the plot twist of part 2 before the beautiful young lady who runs this channel even got to watch it.
And not all of them are crap. To me part 1 and 2 are one big awesome movie. I always enjoyed part 3 even though Myers isn’t in it. It should have been a stand alone movie without the Halloween name attached to it. Part 4 was good except the that the mask sucked. Part 5 wasn’t good. The Tina character alone ruined the movie for me. The theatrical release of part 6 was ok but not great but the alternate version of part 6 worse. H20 could have been better, especially the title. Not only was Resurrection a terrible movie, it was one of the worst movies of all time. Halloween 2018 was a good movie and Kills was less good and Ends ranks slightly above Resurrection.
@@tider77 2 is a joke, not even directed by Carpenter, until they needed him to rewrite and Direct more scenes. Laurie's so useless crawling all over the building and parking lot. Myers gets his eyes shot out by useless Laurie, saved again by Loomis. 3 isn't a Halloween movie, but it is a joke pile of garbage! So that tracks.
4 is OK, 5 is on shaky ground, especially when they killed Rachel, and Myers magically grows his eyes back for his little weeping scene 😂 6 just garbage culmination of bad writing and passing the buck to the next Director. 7, shit, 8 shit's sequel, but nowhere near one of the worst films ever made. Halloween is knows as the un-fun pretentious franchise, but Resurrection is fun and unpretentious. Resurrection subverts all expectations, and I appreciate that. Zombie does a much better job with his part II, though I don't care about why Myers is what he is. H40 was totally forgettable pretentious crap again piled on more pretentious crap, Kills was fun for the kills, and nothing else. Ends would have been better with no Myers at all, but I like that they crush his melon at the End.

This would be the beginning of many horror movies using holidays and dates such as 'Friday the 13th, Silent Night/Deadly Night, April Fools Day and My Bloody Valentine to name a few. You should watch the sequel, it gives details why Michael Myers is going after Laurie. 'Halloween' to date is one of the most successful independent films in cinema history.

Halloween stops being a worth while pursuit the second it ends. It has got to be the single most pretentious and lazy franchise in all of cinematic history. 1st one is good tho!
@@Nicolas.Vincent According to John Carpenter, he didnt even have the idea naming the movie Halloween. He was getting ready to name the movie ' The Babysitter Murders' It was the executive producer that gave Carpenter the idea to rename the movie Halloween since everything took place Halloween night. My point is the success of that movie started a phenomenon. You ask many about Black Christmas and Halloween, the majority is gonna be more familiar with Halloween.
@@angelomaurizio1668 Yes, it's much more popular than Black Christmas. Bob Clark, the Writer/Director of Black Christmas stated on the commentary track that a young Carpenter asked how he would imagine a sequel to Black Christmas. Clark told Carpenter he'd have the killer arrested and hospitalized for a year, then he'd escape and terrorize the same Sorority house, but this time, during Halloween. Halloween, aka The Babysitter Murders is a direct sequel to Black Christmas! Every plot point and especially the POV killer perspective, was lifted straight from Black Christmas and directly from Clark himself, by John Carpenter. 4 years later, we got Halloween.
Carpenter didn't want to continue the franchise so he wrote Myers' death into the sequel. 2 blood shot eyes and an explosion. He didn't invent an unstoppable killer. He tried to drop the franchise, but they made 12 more.

i figure that michael is just an urban myth, that everyone has brought to life by thinking about it until its real.. and laurie has done the most thinking about it, which is why shes not too concerned when shes seeing him everywhere, and then acting like she didnt see him when the kid starts saying he saw the boogeyman.. and because laurie has focused so much on him, it caused him to come after her
But Michael exists as a child at the beginning. You think he's a Tulpa?
Talk about someone not paying attention when they watch a movie. You take the grand prize because this movie shows Michael Myers as a kid kill his sister. Then Dr Loomis and the nurse talked about how he's been locked up in the mental hospital. Since he killed his sister so clearly Michael Myers has always been a real person.
