I stopped playing Elite on the day Odyssey was released, it was so bad on release, but obviously they have had time to fix it now. I am an explorer mainly, since there hasn't really been much added to the exploration I didn't feel the need to come back. But yesterday (Because of YOUR videos, being so positive and happy!) I loaded up Elite and did some more exploring :) Glad there are still newcomers in 2023! I really hope your video series becomes very popular! It's certainly good for the community!

you got your space legs yay ^^ odyssey on-foot missions can get a bit complicated, but its a great fun. if i may recommend a few things: shops in stations sometimes sell upgraded (up to grade 3 [out of 5]) and even pre-engineered equip. inventory renews every thursday on the weekly tick. grade 3 can get you through vast majority of situations... there is this dude on youtube called stealthboy who does great tutorials for these missions and its a great place to check if you want to catch some know-how or if you are struggling with some particular type of mission also i dont know if it was mentioned before, but elite community on twitch is fantastic. its the 24/7 unofficial helpdesk as we like to say :) so if you ever have a question or need help with anything we will be more than glad to help. otherwise awesome series, very enjoyable, very relatable :) looking forward to seeing more from you o7

Welcome to Elite, Cmdr! Just some advise from someone who has pretty much done it and seen it all... take your time. I cannot stress that enough. I don't know how many people I've heard complaining about "the grind", and yes, the game can be VERY grindy if you're always focused on the next big thing instead of enjoying where you're at. Scan ships as you're flying through systems. Take missions from a variety of factions and powers. Always be pledged to a Power... Aisling first; get those shields. Don't forget to check the Codex. There's a lot of stuff in the game to find that a lot of people miss simply because they don't look in the codex. LaGrange clouds, anomalies, aliens, geological and biological features. Keep in mind that bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. The large ships like the Cutter and Corvette are fun but at the same time they maneuver like a school bus and an adept pilot in a smaller ship will shred them with ease. Don't forget. Never fly without rebuy. Watch out for the Thargoids. And stay dangerous commander. 07
Doing great so far CMDR. Those purple numbers are “security clearance levels” and as you saw, you can illegally clone someone’s. Yes, you can steal them from live people too, but either way you have to be careful. If you are scanned for a security check and have one, they WILL attack, and your new “officially a free agent” suits are MUCH weaker than what you just used in the training. If targeted for a scan, you CAN dump the clearance level before they actually scan you. Whatever you do, DON’T run if a guard tells you to stop for a scan. That’s immediate grounds for being attacked. No. You can’t loot anything from the bodies, but you CAN scan them for potential bounties. All armor and weapons are purchased from a station. Look in several places before you buy. You can sometimes find upgraded versions for sale. (Check systems that look like they don’t get much traffic and try to go in just after the weekly update for best chance.) Remember that metal coil you grabbed? There are all sorts of different objects like that scattered around the bases and missions that offer them as rewards. These are engineering materials. You need them to upgrade your equipment. There are another set of them that are available for upgrading your ships. You will need to “unlock” the various engineers for them to teach you how to modify everything. Each one has specialized knowledge. Generally speaking, materials that you pick up while on foot (and on-foot mission rewards) are strictly for your suits and hand held weapons., while those gathered using your ship, SRV, or collector limpets (or as ship based mission rewards) are for your ships and ship equipment/weapons. Be careful with what you’re carrying on foot, as those security scans can sometimes show you carrying “illegal items” and… as before… they will open fire. And with that: Welcome to “The Great FDev Grind!” o7
1 thing you need to keep in mind about odyssey, the tutorial gives you fully upgraded gear. This means that on foot combat is going to be much harder. It’s best to get used to combat in low threat level conflict zones, that way you don’t lose anything if you die.
A truly excellent video. Though I've done the training several times, that flight back with the music and the amazing view of the planet/rings/sunset was stunning.
5:11 while not on combat - disable shields. They drink a lot of juice from your bartery and are useless, unless you're in fight. And the holster key on default is H if I Rembertów it correctly
You have three types of grenades, as you might know by now. - explosives - shield breaking grenades, removing the enemy’s shield - a shield grenades - that glowy dome you saw - protecting you
Some tips, make sure you only use your shield when you need it! It drains power like hell. Don't forget about your jetpack in combat, jump around roofs, zip around the enemy quickly to avoid their fire. You have several grenade types, your usual explosive grenade, shield disruptor grenade(shuts off enemy shield for a period of time) and shield grenade( creates a shield bubble around you so you can safely fire from it. Another critical thing! Kinetic for flesh, lasers for shields, when your weapons are low rank this is even more important, lasers will do very little damage to enemy flesh and vice versa. Use the right type of weapon for the right purpose! Holding ALT will reveal a wheel in the bottom, there you can heal yourself, recharge battery, and select grenade type( move your mouse around to do so) You can holster your weapon by pressing U Holding B will toggle the emote wheel, and they are contextual meaning that if you point at something the game will say( "player" pointed at x object) It will also place a marker on the radar, You can even use this stuff on your rover/ship Clap at your ship and rover or wave at your ship to see a surprise! ( no it won't blow up, they are gesture controls for certain functions) EDIT: Ray gateway in the Diaguandri system is one of the best early game starports, it has lots of modules and ships, facilities, and beautiful high-tech aesthetics. This game is helped a lot by external tools, INARA is one of the best, it allows you to find items, ships, and starport facilities without you needing to search manually in the game, just input your current system, what you want to find and it will give you a long list of locations with it.
Elite Dangerous Horizons/Odessey is the game you play while waiting for Star Citizen. And it won't drain your bank account. ;) It's great to see a completely new player absolutely loving the game. Federation Rank of Petty Officer will get you the SOL permit. You can then enter our SOLar System and the cradle of humanity. Just take mission that have a Federation symbol to the right of the faction's name on the mission board at a station. I LOVE THE VIDEOS!!! SUCH QUALITY!!! o7
Negative reviews of Odyssey came in mostly in first week after expansion's release (mine included), because game was very unoptimised, hadn't many expected features at launch and many promises weren't delivered. After 2 years many problems were solved, altough the game still needs more optimisation and features, nevertheless the game wouldn't get so many negatives if it was at the state it is now at launch.
@@Foxyloxy.X FDev just released unfinished product (people with RTX 3090 couldn't get 60 FPS on planets for example) and promised too much, lied too much (for example - said that alpha release was but a slice of true Odyssey, when in fact it was almost the same, including non-existent optimisation, bugs etc.), you couldn't get out on your own fleet carrier and many, many more things that players expected to be available at launch, but they weren't. Plus the hype was sky-rocketing, so when people got unfinished product, the rage was proportional to the hype. FDev reacted to this with banning unhappy (and vocal) people on their official forum, making angry people even more angry. This is why Odyssey got so many negatives. We had an earth-quake in our community. Today Odyssey is a nice game - not perfect (forget about recommended specs, lol - they are minimum specs), but it's a nice addition to the base game. PS. After your video I changed my negative to a positive.
You turned on your shields when trying to holster your weapon (which is "U", I think). Running around with shields (turn them on and off with "C") while not in combat really drains your power, especially with an unengineered suit. You can upgrade suits and weapons as well as ship's modules, although for on-foot-stuff (suits, weapons) you cannot change updates once installed. When you're getting into upgrades and engineering, I'd recommend taking a look at the *Odyssey Materials Helper* (not only for Odyssey, it's a great help for Horizons, too). *Quizengine's Odyssey Map Guide* is really helpful, too. I'm not sure if this comment gets filtered when I put links here, but _The Buur Pit_ usually puts links to those in the description to his ED videos. /edit: While thinking about key-bindings, I remembered another tip that might be useful: Backup your bindings! At least, if you changed the defaults. In the past, ED updates occasionally reset those key bindings. It's been a while since that happened, but you'll never know. The files usually are in your user-folder in AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings.

Thank you cmdr, I am really surprised to found out that this game has been out for years, yet to me it seems new and amazing! There are so much you can do, and the game itself is quite stable.
Glad to see you enjoying the training. You can't loot corpses other than to scan for bounties and security access. You can loot lockers, containers and any bits and pieces lying around. Check out the Pioneer stores in the stations for weapons, suits and consumables. You can also find rare items that have been pre-upgraded - very useful for beginners! Be sure to try out the on-foot combat zones and the Frontline solutions dropships in systems with war, civil war status. You can see conflict zones on the system map as yellow crossed swords
You should note that in Elite, every star you see in the sky, you can visit. Also note that that galactic band changes appearance depending on where you are in the galaxy. To kill the magic a bit, but the background sphere is rendered specifically for each system you jump to, so nebulas that you are approaching via jumps for example grows larger and changes shape depending on your angle towards them and so on... =) It's an incredibly beautiful game as you are just beginning to experience. Glad you've decided to go all-in and get Odyssey too. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do next, so many avenues are open to you now. As they say, blaze your own trail ... and don't rush to get to the end of it, it's the journey not the destination! 🙂 I'll be curious to see what you think of the surface reconnaissance vehicle (SRV) ... maybe try a planetary scan job mission?
glad to see someone enjoying the game! quick fun fact for you, the sky box you see traveling around is realistically rendered, so for example if you go on an expedition to the center of the galaxy, Sagittarius A, the density of the stars will increase, if you go to the top of the galactic plane, youll be looking down at the whole milkyway. if you love tiny details like that, elite is swarming with them.
Fast tip, you may have noticed, but lasers and "ballistic" guns on the ground work the same as in space. Lasers are better against shields, bullets are better against bodies. Pop the shields with your laser then perforate 'em with your gun for a quick kill. (Plasma weapons do equal to both but fire slower projectiles)
Tbh I have about 1000 hours into Elite I think, and haven't really got into the fps part of odyssey. I've got no engineered stuf (except for a few weapons that I found was sold pre-engineered). I'm focusing more on the spaceship part of the game... But I'll try to five you advices anyway.

6:10 yeah, the cutter does that thing where there's one pixel you haven't cut thru it... One of the things Frontier don't wants to patch because it's "intended feature"

I also quit playing shortly after Odyssey came out. I felt lost with that expansion not knowing what to do. At the time they didn't explain much. I should give it another go and see if they have improved on it.
When you open the wheel, on the left, the electricity flash is the same as your suit power bar symbol on the left. It's the 9 o'clock option. I think holding R might holster.... Using rooves to gain height and move between buildings is a good option.
I've noticed that the SRV is fairly OP. For example, against a small ship with class 2 lasers, the SRV actually is more powerful. I tried to give a friend a hand while doing Guardian-Grind, and found myself less effective than the SRV.
I like doing combat missions for the Frontline Kiosk in Stations.. best way to start I think... work your way up to doing pirates with your ship and you can get an AFK type 10 so you can make billions while you sleep or go to work...
@@Foxyloxy.X I use Turreted beam lasers & multi cannon.. don't forget about hiring a crew member to put in your fighter.. I put collector limpets.. b grade has best range..
With ground combat take one heat weapon and one physical. With the set up in this vid use your rifle to take out there shields and your pistol to take down their health.
Unlike other space games you might be used to, the planets in Elite are full size. Some crazy commanders even drive their SRVs all the way around some of them.

Odyssey gets a bad rap, don't get me wrong at launch it was a buggy mess that was totally unplayable for many and it probably should have been delayed up to another year-- tho that would have receieved a negative response too. That said, I absolutely love it and I find ground missions including venturing into Thargoid occupied space to be fun! hmmmmm so i don't actually play elite but based on what i've seen before vs in this video it looks like they might have made enemies less bullet spongy?
1:02 yeah... When it first came out odyssey was pretty bad, and even now has optimization issues... And doesn't support vr... And lot of stuff that it changed wasn't really well accepted by the community... Hence why is there do much bad reviews on steam. Most of the bugs are fixed now. Most is the keyword here.
I disagree here. If you could loot them, you would end with hundreds of guns and armors. Sure... you could sell them but that would be waaaayy too much money. Even as it is now, money is too easy to earn and I wish it was much harder. At least materials bring some balance to this, you can't easily get all G5 weapons and suits. But if mats are picked as mission rewards only, even that is easy.
@@Foxyloxy.X Haha, tru dat on one hand. There are some stuff that SC has, that I'd love to be in Elite and the massive variety of loot (guns, armours, suits, clothing, backpacks etc.) is one of them. I think that's what I actualy meant more, rather than grabbing stuff from the bodies, now that I think about it. Just the variety.
Odyssey DLC had shitty reviews on steam mainly because it shattered most of the old players' expectation that FDev "gave a fk" back then...also it was terribly optimized by launch lol. Without all that factors I will give it 6/10 honestly, it has some fun but it's very detached from the main game, feels like a game within the game
It's also imporant to note that "space legs" has always been a somewhat controversial topic. Since the beginning many people never wanted it in the first place so the idea that fdev even spent time working on it was a problem with many, it being as bad as it was at launch was just the cherry on top. I personally was always in the pro space legs camp, as well as ship interiors but we know they threw that out.
The idea behind Odyssey is good but implementation is pathetic. If you like ship combat Horizons is more than enough. If you like sub par Call of Duty gunplay then you'll like Odyssey

When you're getting into upgrades and engineering, I'd recommend taking a look at the *Odyssey Materials Helper* (not only for Odyssey, it's a great help for Horizons, too). *Quizengine's Odyssey Map Guide* is really helpful, too. I'm not sure if this comment gets filtered when I put links here, but _The Buur Pit_ usually puts links to those in the description to his ED videos.
/edit: While thinking about key-bindings, I remembered another tip that might be useful: Backup your bindings! At least, if you changed the defaults. In the past, ED updates occasionally reset those key bindings. It's been a while since that happened, but you'll never know. The files usually are in your user-folder in AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings.

Glad to see you enjoying the training. You can't loot corpses other than to scan for bounties and security access. You can loot lockers, containers and any bits and pieces lying around. Check out the Pioneer stores in the stations for weapons, suits and consumables. You can also find rare items that have been pre-upgraded - very useful for beginners! Be sure to try out the on-foot combat zones and the Frontline solutions dropships in systems with war, civil war status. You can see conflict zones on the system map as yellow crossed swords

You should note that in Elite, every star you see in the sky, you can visit. Also note that that galactic band changes appearance depending on where you are in the galaxy. To kill the magic a bit, but the background sphere is rendered specifically for each system you jump to, so nebulas that you are approaching via jumps for example grows larger and changes shape depending on your angle towards them and so on... =) It's an incredibly beautiful game as you are just beginning to experience. the sky box you see traveling around is realistically rendered, so for example if you go on an expedition to the center of the galaxy, Sagittarius A, the density of the stars will increase, if you go to the top of the galactic plane, youll be looking down at the whole milkyway. if you love tiny details like that, elite is swarming with them.

Fast tip, you may have noticed, but lasers and "ballistic" guns on the ground work the same as in space. Lasers are better against shields, bullets are better against bodies. Pop the shields with your laser then perforate 'em with your gun for a quick kill. (Plasma weapons do equal to both but fire slower projectiles)

Tbh I have about 1000 hours into Elite I think, and haven't really got into the fps part of odyssey.
I've got no engineered stuf (except for a few weapons that I found was sold pre-engineered).
I'm focusing more on the spaceship part of the game... But I'll try to five you advices anyway.

I also quit playing shortly after Odyssey came out. I felt lost with that expansion not knowing what to do. At the time they didn't explain much. I should give it another go and see if they have improved on it.

When you open the wheel, on the left, the electricity flash is the same as your suit power bar symbol on the left. It's the 9 o'clock option. I think holding R might holster.... Using rooves to gain height and move between buildings is a good option.

When you decide to try planetary salvage, make sure you bring the SRV. Enemy can be pretty hard but SRV just maws them.
I've noticed that the SRV is fairly OP. For example, against a small ship with class 2 lasers, the SRV actually is more powerful. I tried to give a friend a hand while doing Guardian-Grind, and found myself less effective than the SRV.

Your tools can scan the bodies, the purple is the security clearance level. You can clone identities but will be treated as an enemy if caught.

I like doing combat missions for the Frontline Kiosk in Stations.. best way to start I think... work your way up to doing pirates with your ship and you can get an AFK type 10 so you can make billions while you sleep or go to work...

@@Foxyloxy.X I use Turreted beam lasers & multi cannon.. don't forget about hiring a crew member to put in your fighter.. I put collector limpets.. b grade has best range..
With ground combat take one heat weapon and one physical. With the set up in this vid use your rifle to take out there shields and your pistol to take down their health.
You can buy skins for all the weapons and suits too - there's a gigantic range to choose from.
Unlike other space games you might be used to, the planets in Elite are full size. Some crazy commanders even drive their SRVs all the way around some of them.

Odyssey gets a bad rap, don't get me wrong at launch it was a buggy mess that was totally unplayable for many and it probably should have been delayed up to another year-- tho that would have receieved a negative response too. That said, I absolutely love it and I find ground missions including venturing into Thargoid occupied space to be fun! If you ever want any assistance especially ground assistance in-game (and this goes to pretty much anyone) let me know!

1:02 yeah... When it first came out odyssey was pretty bad, and even now has optimization issues... And doesn't support vr... And lot of stuff that it changed wasn't really well accepted by the community... Hence why is there do much bad reviews on steam. Most of the bugs are fixed now. Most is the keyword here.

Unfortunately you can't loot enemies. Unlike in SC, which is a shame tbh.
I disagree here. If you could loot them, you would end with hundreds of guns and armors. Sure... you could sell them but that would be waaaayy too much money. Even as it is now, money is too easy to earn and I wish it was much harder.
At least materials bring some balance to this, you can't easily get all G5 weapons and suits. But if mats are picked as mission rewards only, even that is easy.

@@Foxyloxy.X Haha, tru dat on one hand. There are some stuff that SC has, that I'd love to be in Elite and the massive variety of loot (guns, armours, suits, clothing, backpacks etc.) is one of them. I think that's what I actualy meant more, rather than grabbing stuff from the bodies, now that I think about it. Just the variety.
Although I purchased Odyssey, I never did find it on my list - so that was a complete waste of money.
Try with the new launcher which came out yesterday. It's meant to streamline connecting your Steam account to your Frontier one.
And now you really are a CMDR… CMDR! You will also now complain about what SC does not have every time you play it.

Odyssey DLC had shitty reviews on steam mainly because it shattered most of the old players' expectation that FDev "gave a fk" back then...also it was terribly optimized by launch lol. Without all that factors I will give it 6/10 honestly, it has some fun but it's very detached from the main game, feels like a game within the game

It's also imporant to note that "space legs" has always been a somewhat controversial topic. Since the beginning many people never wanted it in the first place so the idea that fdev even spent time working on it was a problem with many, it being as bad as it was at launch was just the cherry on top. I personally was always in the pro space legs camp, as well as ship interiors but we know they threw that out.
The idea behind Odyssey is good but implementation is pathetic. If you like ship combat Horizons is more than enough. If you like sub par Call of Duty gunplay then you'll like Odyssey

With all the toxic players who destroy the game by killing the noobies just to be an ass gone over to SC. ED is a much better place now too. Jameson station is actually easier to get to. Lol... great time to come back. Noobies might get some good skills when they come back. N they will SC is falling apart n Starfield is ok but it's a single player.
