Jasmine is a boss and anyone who says otherwise doesn’t get to sit on my side of the playground. It’s the side with the hopscotch too so you’re really missing out 😎😏 STREAM THIS SONG HERE - distrokid.com/hyperfollow/lydiathebard/speechless-feat-frostudio-chambersonic
I’d say, Jasmine is a boss in the original. In the remake… not so much. The actress was great, but the character was written to look strong and smart more than be strong and smart. The original Jasmine didn’t need to find strength to speak up, she could do it all along, because that’s what being a princess means. And the only way Jafar could make her feel weak and hopeless was by telling her that Aladdin was dead, not just by being a generic sexist asshole.
@@АнастасияАгаркина-й3э Highly agree. The original Jasmine spoke out many times for what she wanted, even throwing out many of the princes and flatly telling her father she wanted to marry for love and not the law. She even told Jafar to his face that when she was forced to marry by her father that he would be gone which is what gave Iago the idea to have Jafar marry her first.
@@АнастасияАгаркина-й3э They were different. Live action Jasmine also rejected suitor after suitor, she just did it diplomatically. She behaved like a princess who understood her kingdom couldn't go without foreign relations, instead of siccing her tiger on them. Jafar made her feel bad using her responsibility to the kingdom, as did her father, because unlike animated Jasmine, she had no intention of abandoning those responsibilities, but he had to resort to nearly killing her father in front of her to get her to submit. Plus live action Jasmine was trying to dismantle the whole male dominated power structure, not get rid of one law. She cared more about being sultan because she knew she could be fair and she knew how her people lived, than she did about simply marrying for love. Animated Jasmine maintains the status quo except for that one law; live action Jasmine became the first female Sultan in the history of Agrabah. Plus, I'd say that getting close enough to Jafar to yank the lamp out of his belt and literally throwing herself off a balcony with a bare hope that she'll be caught in time is very much a boss move -she'd rather die attempting to destroy his source of power than stand by and watch. Imho it's a significant improvement vs "the only thing Jasmine can do to help stop Jafar is be sexy" (red dress scene) which was also super fetishizing. Having to find your strength and then holding onto it with both hands and refusing to ever let go, going against everything that's kept you subdued your whole life, isn't being weak. On the contrary. (And in re: Jafar, live action Jafar wasn't openly a smarmy prick she was the only one smart enough to look down on. He manipulated everyone and was significantly smarter and scarier, so there's that too). ETA: I'm not saying animated Jasmine is worse btw. Her movie was more childish and idealistic, so they centered more on the "marrying for love" deal. But she was very bratty at times, which no real princess could have afforded to be. And live action Jasmine had moments of weakness and doubt that she overcame. It's more about them having different flaws than different good qualities
@@darthhauler9947 And live action Jasmine also rejected every suitor. Only she told her father that she wanted to rule, to care for her people. Marriage didn't enter the equation until she had fallen in love already. The Sultan literally says they're "running out of kingdoms" because she rejected everyone. She just did it diplomatically instead of throwing Rajah at them.
List of amazing things about this song: The artwork for the video The bombastic, *epic* arrangement The fact that Lydia is just as good at singing for good princesses as she is for villain princesses The *emotion* in the singing The high notes The fact that this is the best part of the Aladdin remake The singing in general The differences between this cover and the original, making neither of them obsolete Yeah, I enjoyed the song
I absolutely adored this song in the new movie but it never really felt like an Aladdin song, y’know? Like it was from a whole diff musical. This though? This feels like not just Aladdin, this feels like JASMINE.
I’m very interested to hear Lydia sing this. I kinda have a love/hate relationship with this musical number. The song itself is pretty great, but its context… Well, it’s just fake women empowerment, cause, you know, Jasmine sings about not breaking down and crying while breaking down and almost screaming in hysteria, and then she basically does nothing powerful for the plot. She speaks up to the captain of the guards, which gets him imprisoned, and then she says no at the altar, and that’s it. Not exactly what the song was promising, it’s too strong for this storyline. And Lydia’s Jasmine from the Villain song literally seemed more powerful than the one from the movie… So, I’m gonna bet that this is going to be good)
Have to agree. Disney just needs to stop with the remakes. With each remake, they errode the quality of the originals. The song itself is fine. Just the way it is used in the film is silly. The hubris of these weak modern Disney writers thinking they can remake these classics and improve upon them is laughable. Hopefully, the current strike separates the useless from the actual writers.
I mean the closest thing to empowerment was her Thanos snapping those 2 poor guards who were just doing their jobs lol (like imagine being the other guards who had to bring news to those guard's families "I'm sorry he died at work and we don't even have a body to return to you" wife: "was there a raid on the palace?" "No the princess had a hissyfit again"
Mia: Leon how are we going to keep Chelsea and Rico safe? the nightmare counsel will do everything in theyre evil power to destroy them Leon: don't worry Mia. we'll protect our little ducklings. together Mia: (sings) ever since they locked us in a cage I worry for what they're planning for them Leon: (sings) darling you don't need to fear cause when the time is right they'll see us in her Mia and Leon: (sings) now that I've become a father/mother. she'll bring true happiness. so I try to make her tremble when they try it, she will never fall and go speechless, speechless, cause in the end she is destine for greatness, she will show them all who she is, and I know that she'll never go speechless, I believe that she wont go speechless, speechless!
This song was so brilliantly performed by Lydia that I was dumbfounded after hearing it. Even now, I'm still shaking. Keep up the fantastic work. Lydia ❤
I'm so happy to have come across your channel, you're vocals are so amazing and give me goosebumps. I would love to hear this turned into a villain cover. It might be interesting.
Gurl! This is BEAUTIFULLY AWESOME! your control in this is perfect; you nailed it while putting a special spin off of you into this that makes it more awesome! GREAT JOB! :)
Hey Lydia I love your songs even the villian princess songs... I can't wait for next month honestly I'm glad there is something to look forward and not think of alot next month... My mother I can't see any more because of family and mental issues... My ex's birthday and our first date that didn't go well... And my first year being the first anniversary of me graduation of the school where I last felt truly happy and felt home and everyone I love and care for... So thank u and amazing have a great day girl and I love speechless but this one is my favorite than the original! ❤❤❤
I'm really in love with your song cover. Can you cover 'part of your world' and some barbie songs like 'two voices, one song'. wishing u all the best!!
Brilliant Job As Always Lydia. I Hope In The Future You Could Cover Isabella's Lullaby From The Promised Neverland. With Or Without Lyrics I'm Sure You'll Slay It.
I love this. I feel like you would do good with Steven universe songs. Maybe a villain version of “it’s over isn’t it” where pearl goes all bad guy because of roses death
A trained and studied voice, modern methods of work with both force and emotion. How is it possible you are not famous? Should be, by all means. Bravo from a former, old-school singer.
You know whats sad about this song is that if Jasmine wasn't a princess they would have absolutely made her go speechless. It's a cool song but it completely ignores how much power men had over women in the past and reeks of privilage Cause trust me if your seen as a lesser person you are actually risking your life by being loud.
Damn, now I'm suddenly wanting to try and make a D&D character built around the song lol... problem is there isn't much for making one immune to the silence spell RAW other than maybe workarounds like telepathy or subtle spell dispel or the like...
