That iron object that looks like a chain link you said looks like maybe horse tack is actually for an old well. Those used to be linked together so when you pull a rope the water would leak over the edges but would be caught by the next one and so on. Pretty neat. I’ve found a few

I have permissions outside of Port Jarvis and find treasures like you find. So much history under our feet.
We are in a good part of the country for this hobby,lots of colonial history here
