    My first memory with the Zelda series was actually related to music. Back when I was a kid and knew nothing of Nintendo, let alone Zelda, My mother was actually doing that part in Spirit Tracks where you have to play a song with the sage, She couldn’t do it, so I gave it a shot. Did it in the first few tries, The music that played absolutely mesmerized me and I knew I had to see more and rest is history.
    The music has always felt well… Otherworldly now I see why, Koji Kondo is an absolute legend!

      Spirit Tracks is one of the few Zelda games I have NOT played...will have to get on that. Glad it had such an impact on you!

    "Atmosphere" is perhaps the word I hear most that best describes the peak Zelda experience, and I love that the music is no different. As someone who grew up with the N64 games, thinking that no game would ever top them for musical experience...well I think the era of the wild's music fits those games /perfectly/ and I listen to those tracks now just as much as those from earlier games. Koji Kondo is my favourite composer of all time, but I have to give so much credit to the composers for the more recent games for managing to do the near-impossible. This was another great video-well done!

      Thanks for checking it out! It's amazing the franchise has been able to adapt to both melodic, ear-wormy songs as well as the more ambient sounds.

    As much as the zelda actual OST is timeless, what actually has always get me to feel like part of the world was its combination with the sound effects. Its actually insane how much the sound effects do for the overworld and dungeons, even simple things like when you pass or start a text of dialogue has some kind of effect on your feel of belonging when you hear it through out the game.
    I probably love wind waker more for the sound effects than the music for example, it has such a calming effect when you get out of a dungeon or house and you hear the sound waves of the ocean

    I feel that traditional 3D Zelda games (OOT - Skyward Sword) had much better OSTs than Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I think the main standouts in the open world Zelda games are the boss fight themes and pretty much only the the boss fight themes

    • @LittleBeanGreen
      @LittleBeanGreen  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I'd be hard pressed not to agree with you...people make mention of the boss fight themes and the adaptive music as you work your way through the new dungeons but honestly I never even noticed those...the only music I recall from TotK is the combat shrine theme and of course that sweet sweet final trailer music.

    Personally, for the Wild era games, I wish they came with a slider to turn the music off. Maybe I'm just not educated enough on ambient music, but I'd rather hear the sounds of nature all around me without someone hitting two random piano keys every once in a while. TOTK does music a little better imo, I especially like the song that plays whenever you skydive.

    • @LittleBeanGreen
      @LittleBeanGreen  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they definitely have the opportunity to make music more dynamic, to play more melody heavy bits in areas of interests, and perhaps to do as you suggest, and really lean in to the nature sounds in far off places....especially because the sound design in the last two installments is impeccable.

  • @harukaze7388

    They put a ton of care on OoT's sound and music.
    Aside all the love for the Ocarina, there's the incredibly sophisticated dynamic soundtrack, where the music changes in various ways according to the gameplay, something that was pretty revolutionary at the time. Some are very simple like the enemy theme, some are subtle like various aspects of the song slightly changing, and some like Hyrule Field are just incredible.
    Combined with all sorts of localized ambient sounds. The game is constantly very deliberate about its sound and conveying things to you.

      Something I wasn't as up to snuff on since I made this video is that, even when Kondo stepped away from the series, the music still remained top-notch.
      One thing the new games do especially well is their sound design.

  • @blueshellincident

    Haven't watched the video yet so bear with me. Zelda's music as a whole is a class act. I love how some games go for a more melodic vibe, and others go full in on the atmospheric sound. OoT's dungeon songs are FULL ATMOSPHERE and they rock. I feel like Wind Waker has such great melodies in its songs. I could say more on all the others, especially the slept on 2D Zelda games, or even the DS games, but I don't feel the need! They speak for themselves.

    Yea, Kass was my favorite character from BotW, with his theme and the Korok Forest being my favorite pieces from the game.
    But it's true, I sing more melodies from Zelda games then regular songs, except maybe the City Theme from Animal Crossing.

    Kondo is great, much respect. If you're curious about more details of HOW his music does everything you described....may I suggest a channel called Zelda Music Theory? Dude goes into a ton of detail on the music theory parts and picking up references and common threads in various songs in various games over time. I barely understand any of it but it's fascinating!

      I've heard good things - and I'm not huge into FF as a franchise. Does the music carry over from game to game in a meaningful way like it has in the Zelda series?

    • @Real_RPGgaming
      @Real_RPGgaming 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LittleBeanGreen the music doesn’t carry over, but it wouldn’t make since to since the games are connected less than Zelda games are. Each game is its own thing, own world, and own characters. The only thing that carries over is items like potions(which heal) and phoenix downs(which revive party members) so it wouldn’t make since for the music to carry over. And really the only games I’ve played in the series are 16 and 7 and the music in 7 was what I was talking about in the original comment the other game’s music aren’t as good for me. Also the music in ff7 is really similar to ocarina of time. I still love Zelda’s music I just like ff7’s slightly more

      FF 6's soundtrack was fantastic as well. TPR made a great remix album with some key moments from the game on screen if you want a taste. Probably my favorite non-zelda game soundtrack. Metroid series is up there too though, and of course Chrono Trigger.
