    Im not saying Black Pink didnt have their own struggles but BP are from one of the three top labels in SK and so didnt have as many hardships as BTS coming from an almost bankrupt small label. They didnt have the funds like the big labels have and the 7 members had to sleep in one tiny bedroom. They had to use staff as extras in MVs. They didnt have the power of the big labels to promote their music and thats why they made these vlogs and content for YT to get themselves known. They gained followers and fans this way and built up their Army. RM has stated that there is 100% in success and he gives Army credit for 50% of it. They take 5% each member and 15% to the label. Pretty much thanking Army for getting them were they are today. The music industry, media and other fandoms still try and sabotage them to this day, but Army will never give up on our guys.

    15:10 no, all the groups mentioned are under completely different labels, this episode is like an introduction to the whole k-pop industry and their training system hence they were mentioned. bts and lee hyun (a soloist) were the only artists under big hit entertainment at that time. it's also good to mention that Bang PD (the chairman) gave the members WAY more autonomy and space for self-development than the other companies. also, answering your other question - while training rm, suga and j-hope and later also as 7 and in units had been releasing some pre-debut songs and videos as shown in this episode. rm and suga signed for big hit in 2010 and as the other members kept joining they all had been practicing till the debut in 2013.

    BTS wasnt at a camp.
    They trained at their company which was relatively small in the industry and didn't have much funding. They were not paid as trainees but most likely had a living allowance that their manager would control. Before debut, they learn and practice everything from dancing, rapping, singing, acting for performances, producing, and publicity training. There were others training with RM at first to be a solely hip-hop group but they dropped out, so that's why he was paired with the members that are now in BTS. Their company Big Hit almost went bankrupt at one point and they faced a lot of criticism and bullying from others in the industry and the media. These hardships along with their hardwork, talent, and beautiful souls are some of the reasons ARMY cares for them so much and are so protective. 💜. Hope you react to more of their music.

    blackpink is from a BIG company. so NO they didn't go through REMOTELY the same shit that BTS went through.

  • @secretyidentity2833
    @secretyidentity2833 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    BTS and blackpink are not under the same label.
    BTS debuted with the small company (at that time) BigHit Entertainment. Blackpink debut under of the KPOP's big 3 companies, YG. Their treatment as trainees was completly different and no, they didn't live in the same "trainee camp".
    BTS all lived together in one room in a small dorm during their early years.
    BTS has always been deeply involved in songwriting and producing, their songs have always told their own stories.
    As RM said, he was signed to the company in 2010. The last member to join BTS was Jimin in 2012. So during those 2 years the company was looking for members to add to the group, and like they said in the video they could find them through auditions (like J-hope) or even on the street (like Jin).
    Suga was initially signed as a producer for BigHit, but was later convinced to join BTS as the second member.
    BTS debuted in 2013, 3 years after they signed the first member RM. During that time the group was formed by slowly adding more members and they all trained.
    This video "The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS (2023 Update!)" by RiceSquad goes through their story in a bit more detail of how each member joined.

    The reason why the views on the episodes are so low is because they were re-uploaded by someone (hopefully with the subtitules, i'm commenting while watching your intro). Unfortunately the original creator of the series deleted it from her channel last year. I guarantee you that a lot of armys know this series by heart by now haha. 0:45 The original videos had tons of views. These are reuploads. The series is super popular and super well loved.
    5:35 As it says a bit later in the episode or series, you can kind of equivocate the kpop industry to the sports industry in that the artists start young, and are rigorously trained, often even going to specialised schools (Jimin going to an arts school). Like sports professionals, the life of an idol tends to be when they are young and so it is short lived - often only during the peak of their lives in terms of appearance and physical abilities like dancing and, to some extent, singing. If you think of say a footballer in the US, kids would start playing when they are young, join teams and take lessons, get into high schools which have good teams and coaches, get into unis with scholarships, play until they're in about their 30s and retire from the sport.
    6:50 Exactly. And as that one idol said, they are trained to do everything that a star would require - not just singing an dancing, but language skills and how to conduct themselves as a public persona in a very critical industry. Not just how to perform music but how to make music.
    8:10 It wasn't live, but some of the auditions were held in a competitive format.
    10:15 There is a LOT of shady dealings when it comes to the entertainment industry, and Kpop is no different. Historically trainees have not been paid and have had to get part time jobs to support themselves, often even becoming indebted to their companies. On top of that, companies tend to take the lion's share of earnings and many kpop idols are actually not very rich unless you get to top tier status like BTS. Yoongi, for example, actually was working as a trainee and during one of his deliveries for work is when he infamously injured his shoulder. He decided not to tell the company because idols are often expected to fully focus on their training and not work even though there's no other way to sustain themselves. Conditions are very slowly improving, however it is still a difficult lifestyle which requires the trainees to sacrifice a lot and work very hard for their dreams.
    10:50 Kim Sungwon (Sleepy) is a rapper.
    13:35 If you're fixing the camera please pause so you don't miss too much.
    14:55 Training is generally kept within companies, so there isn't a ton of interaction between idols, generally. You'll have sets of trainees from which a group may be selected for debut. However there are a couple of very popular arts schools and many idols may be alumni of those schools, so there could be some outside interaction there, but otherwise fairly minimal.
    15:14 Yup, however BTS is under BigHit and Blackpink is under YG, so they have little to no interaction outside of promotional and advertising work.
    17:05 It's not too well known but Jimin was interested in singing too from a young age, however he never took any lessons prior to debut. As for dancing, he had been training for years, similar to Hoseok. Also somewhat unknown is that Yoongi used to b boy a little, so he also had a little knowledge prior to debut but had to step back due to his shoulder injury and to focus on rapping and producing.
    17:10 Learning and they would have still taken lessons - even now Bangtan members take lessons to improve their skills as they are very dedicated to their craft.
    19:10 I think I mentioned in my other comment that the members were releasing covers and some original pieces prior to their official debut.
    19:25 It was not an official release and so was not on any album.
    22:20 Actually big bro is pretty close since hyung that's kind of what hyung literally means. Korean males use it to refer to their older blood brothers, but also any male who isn't a LOT older them. So you wouldn't really call an uncle a hyung, or a grandpa, or an old man hyung, or a coworker or your boss, since it would be disrespectful. But someone you're friends with, it'd be equivalent of saying bro but a bit respectful.
    Thanks for supporting BTS. Looking forward to the rest of the Rise episodes and other BTS content.
    Happy BTS 10th Festa! (Celebrations of the anniversary of their debut during June).

      Let's add to what happened with Yoongi/Suga:
      He had the accident as a delivery boy - likely like in the MV of Amygdala. He was injured and tried to hide it afraid he would be kicked.
      But the injury was too big to hide and he was brought to hospital. He offered to leave and the label told him they would wait for him.
      Fun fact:
      Yoongi was always last in these tests but was still kept - so where the other two that shared the bottom with him: Namjoon/RM - who debuted with BTS - and Supreme Boi - who choose to stay on as a producer.
      What the rapline had to offer from the beginning was very much wanted by the label for their incredible talent - they cared less about the vocalline but those they ended up picking - well... they made the perfect choice.
      Unfortunately the shoulder injury had consequences which meant constant pain for Yoongi and pain medication: money and time was for a long time the reason nothing was done about it.
      In 2020 Yoongi finally had the operation he needed.
      A recent show "You Quiz On The Block" and Bang PD on the show and he told everyone that his label upon BTS debut had 100 Billion Won debt aka. ca 74 Million USD. He almost didn't debut them because it was that high.
      I wouldn't say that trainee interaction from labels is minimal. Quiet a few of the bigger labels are/were right next to each other (so for e.g. breaks they met each other) - not to mention that trainees that didn't debut tried it in another labels/talent shows and as such connected among themselves.
      And than there is Korean culture and as a result people born in the same year often form friendships - the only way they can be equal.
      But BTS was isolated from that and made a weird impression on the other idols who probably thought they would not stay around. So in the beginning it was hard but they eventually began form friendships with other Idols/musicians - usually a few years later.
      💜

    BTS is not in the same label as any of those groups that were mentioned in this episode. Also Jimin and Jhope have been dancing wayyy before even being trainees. BTS also make songs as a group, only rapline, only vocal line, certain members from the rapline and vocal line, and as soloist! And BTS have been through many hardships compared to those who had everything since they debuted. BTS came from NOTHING, most of the kpop groups who are and we’re mainstream came from big labels. BTS alone made their company number 1 with their success. 💜

  • @menohero_menovillian
    @menohero_menovillian ปีที่แล้ว +5

    When they didn't have the full group, the members were already training and writing music.
    I think the training process for all the labels is quite similar. They all need to learn how to dance, sing, rap, etc....and they get rated and picked from the crop. BTS's label is different from BlackPink's label because BTSs label was small and close to bankruptcy. They didn't have the power, resources, money to promote BTS. BTS had to find alternative ways to become popular. Whereas Blackpink's label was one of the BIG3 labels, so they had the financial power and influential power to promote Blackpink and ensure that they will get all the big production videos, fancy clothes, and promotional opportunities. This was BTS's strength and weakness. Because they came from a small label with limited resources, they were given more freedom to do things. Like write their own music. Whereas Blackpink is given their music. Which is why BTS's songs/lyrics are more meaningful. They're telling you their story or telling you what they were going through during the time they wrote the song. Where as Blackpinks music is just catchy beats and their message is 9 out of 10 times "look at us, we're the best". you can also see that in earlier days, BTSs style was pretty bad. I guess they couldn't afford a good stylist. and i'm sure allowing BTS to write their own music helps the label save some money on hiring other people to do it.
    BTS went through many hardships and hate because they came from a small company. But they persevered. And that's why their fans are so protective of them. They went through the challenges with BTS. Went on the journey with them. So they are connected with the members more then other k-pop groups. For a little unknown group coming from a small (close to bankruptcy) company that people made fun of and didn't take seriously, and even sabotaged, to becoming now the biggest group in the world and the biggest label in Korea speaks volumes. You can imagine how upset the other labels are that BIGHIT got so big despite everyone being against them. True underdog story through and through. And BTS still remains positive, still tries to help the lesser known artists, and still remains so humble. Whether or not people like BTS's music, i think people should use them as role models and or motivation to do better in their own lives. Yes the training process was tough, but i do feel like the newer generations now-a-days lack discipline and hard work. They just want instant success with little to no work behind it. There's something behind BTS's story for everyone to take and learn from

    • @nsma2629
      @nsma2629 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also as a political commentary from south Korea said the reason why BTS is given very limited or poor coverage in South Korea is because if BTS can succeed without going through the formal process it meant that the industry players weren't needed. So in many ways, the big players in the industry didn't want them to succeed and hence played down or ignored their achievements. This would have been very different for groups like BlackPink.

    Hope you watch this series till the very end. It may seem like a lot of episodes (22 in all) but of all the documentaries done on BTS, this one is the best and most professionally done. If you commit to watching the entire series, Army will watch with you because we want you to fully understand the beginnings of BTS and what it took for them to get to where they are now. It was not an easy climb. The fact that they were not part of the Big 3 agencies was already a large handicap that they had to overcome. BigHit was a very small company, almost bankrupt at one time, and had no influence with media or the music industry. There was also undeserved hate, disrespect, doubt, and accusations hurled at them all along the way. For them to make it as global artists, overcoming each obstacle that came their way, is due largely to their commitment to excellent performance at all times, hard work, and pure grit.

    hi, to answer the questions: what were they doing before debut? quite simply, practicing, practicing and practicing. these pre-debut songs you see were also somewhat a part of that training, they would produce, write, record and sometimes even film music videos while trainees, all in name of hoping to bring some anticipation for their debut.

    • @bgmvibezone
      @bgmvibezone 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was a little irritated they kept asking that when the documentary goes over how intense training is within the kpop industry and how many idols train for YEARS prior to debut. They even said in the video some trainees train from sunup to sundown or after classes and the members themselves said they were working on music all night. They answered the question multiple times throughout the video. 😅 Becoming a kpop idol is a long tenuous process

    I don't know how many times I've watched this series, and I still love watching it. I hope you come to appreciate it as much as we have. FYI - when Big Hit started out, they only had 2 small groups that were being co-managed by them and another company, and 1 solo artists. They also had a girl group for a short time. BTS was basically their first real group that they started and became successful. BTS basically made Big Hit what they are today, and they started out as a Hip Hop Idol group, in 2013.
    The teams with Big Hit right now are mainly TXT and BTS. Their parent company, HYBE, has other labels under them, but they are completely separate from Big Hit Music.
    So Taylors video was an Introduction video, and The Rise of Bangtan is an in depth docu-series. That is the difference between them. These are the best out there. If you want to know more specifically about their journey through their discography, there is another Introduction video that takes you through that. It's by the Rice Squad. This one is the best though. Aneesa is the ARMY that put together The Rise of Bangtan. And she archived the videos when she got a promotion and the BTS Members were all going on break from group activities to do their solo work and serve their mandatory military service. She is a professional video editor for her job, and this was her passion project. Maybe someday she will do another series, because she is so good at what she does. I'm glad you guys are checking this out. You will know their journey and their story from their real life content. Next episode, you will get to see their debut stage and preparation for their 1st comeback, which just means they are releasing new music. See you next time.

    I just wanted to remind all of us that South Korea just achieve their independence on 1945, there's still American veterans who participated on it alive on this day, and they still are in stalemate with North Korea. So, relatively new Country. Because of this South Korean people have a really strict concept of manners /respect . And because of North Korea they have mandatory military service. Only some specific exceptions can be made for some people so they can be exempt. Right now 2 members of BTS have started their mandatory military service ,Jin and J-Hope. All of this to say that yes, the idol industry is really strict but , little by little, the new Korean generations are changing some aspects ,and BTS is one (if not the only) which started introducing some of the changes, is still a long way to go but hopefully they keep on making changes.

    BTS label only has them, their senior Lee Hyun (now rebranded as Midnatt) and their junors TXT (Tomorrow by together, 5 members)

    They did have quite a lot of songs prior to official debut, which are not in any albums and not all of the members are there yet. Like "adult child" and "graduation song"

    Watched this series so many times on my own and with different reactors. Its a very good series that puts BTS into context with the kpop industry and why they are an anamoly. As the series goes along you get to see real footage that documents their journey. I would suggest reactors watch this series once you are more exposed to BTS music and artistry and want to see their journey. And you have to understand the deep questions gat are posed by the video creator and how BTS is a phenomenon. Just one request if you want to continue reacting to BTS is not to talk over or skip parts. To your question on labels Bts and Blackpink are not under tge same agency. The point in the video is that BigHit and other agencies were quite different in that the boys organically developed.

    Este es un comparativo de como los denas grupos lograron integrar una compañia diferente a BTS ellos lo hicieron por audición si pero con la libertad de aprender componer escribir y se fueron desarrollando organicamente ya que la compañía era muy pequeña y no tenía para invertir y aparecer en programas BTS hizo crecer la compañia con su talento aun con todo los obstáculos que las grandes compañías reconocida les hicieron!! Ellos a diferencia de los otros grupos componen producen escriben y han están en cada paso del proceso de sus albuns , vídeos entrevistas mercancía conciertos etc..... BTS es único y le ha abierto el camino al kpop.. BTS por siempre!!!💜💜💜

    Difference is that BlackPink has heavily underworked, like their career doesn't match their popularity, they only got bigger thru Brand's that BTS rejected to focus on music, not a hater to them but wish they'd do more and not so little for what they've been handed
