  • Cassie Stoddart was living in Pocatello, Idaho. When she went to house sit one weekend, her boyfriend and friends joined her. What started out as a spooky house, quickly developed into a real life horror movie, that was throughly planned and executed by those closest.

Torey's mom is completely delusional, immersed in irrational denial. This is in part what created Torey, the sense that he could easily tell her anything and she would blindly believe it, which meant he could literally get away with anything, or so he thought. Brian at least showed some signs of redemption, trying to answer for what he did. Both of these evil idiots should never be let out of prison, ever, for any reason. R.I.P. Cassie . . . she didn't deserve any of this.

There is a documentary where these 2 guys and a couple other child killers are interviewed. Brian admits what he did and at least outwardly accepts responsibility for what he did and tells them that they knew what they where doing. At his age I would have armed myself with two of the largest kitchen knives, let the dogs go ahead of me into the basement, and figured out wtf was going on. I once went to museum that had an exhibit on dogs hearing- someone walking on a clean, bare floor barely registers to us- to a dog it sounds like they are walking on a floor covered with corn flakes.

You've made an excellent point - "going to be hell if they ever snap out." This seems to be an issue even in less awful circumstances. If someone has put so much time and effort into believing or doing something, it can break them if that reality is shattered. On a tiny level, I see that from my students who don't feel they deserved less than an A because they likely did work hard or truly felt they met the requirements. On a much much larger scale, parents who truly poured their best effort and care into raising and supporting their children feel like it's impossible for their children to commit such horrible acts. Fantasy land = easier than crippling truths.

I understand a 16yo not being able to think critically and objectively, and maybe not knowing technical things about the world like circuit breakers. Maybe he was spooked, but couldn't articulate why something was definitely wrong to his mom. His mom really should have stayed, walked through the house, or insisted that Cassie leave with them. No doubt I'd always love my children no matter what they did, but I'd stop several busses short of defending their actions or trying to say "Not my kid". It's easy. You can't panic over every little thing your kid spouts off about. You just *can't*, or life would be literally unlivable. And she offered to drive him over the next day (not that it would have made any difference), and he refused citing "other plans".
All that being said... pay attention to your instincts. If something in "your gut" says things are "off", they probably _are_. Don't talk yourself out of action simply because it "seems unlikely". Keep your head on a swivel, and notice the world around you.

Torey's parents are two really sad people. They're not only in denial about what their son did, but they delude themselves into believing they love him. They don't love him. Love is accepting someone's faults, acknowledgeding who they are(good or bad) and loving them in spite of that. They're in love with some idealized fantasy of their son. Something he never was, and likely never will be. The guy's a murderer. An unrepentant one at that. If they really loved him they'd admit that to themselves and stop pandering to his delusions.

I did time in ISCI (for possession) with Brian. I knew he was in for murder, but I never asked him for the details because I didn't want to know. He was a good friend to me- we worked out together, he let me use his mp3 player, let me play his guitar, helped me to accept my situation, etc. I can agree with Mike's assessment that Brian really does feel bad for what he did. It's a long story but I'll leave it at that. Torrey though... I never met him because he was in Max- a completely different yard. That being said, take note:
If you notice the later interviews with Brian and Torrey: Brian is wearing a blue collared shirt whereas Torrey is wearing orange. This is because the uniform in ISCI is a blue collared shirt, blue jeans and whatever shoes you can afford. Max inmates on the other hand wear orange scrubs. So Torrey must not have ever improved his behavior- not by the time I hit ISCI anyway.
I was shocked to learn the details of Brian's crime (from a podcast) upon my release. It's hard for me to imagine Brian doing those things.. yet apparently he did. All around, it's a heartbreaking story. I feel for the Stoddard family and offer them my sincerest condolences.

      @rhondadavis1483 2 ปีที่แล้ว +48

Thank you for the update. The way you described Brian is how I had figured it out too. He seems genuinely remorseful. Tory on the other hand has enabling and in denial parents...they are enabling him to not take responsibility and therefore, not change. Only when one is honest with themselves about the depth of depravity they are capable of, can one really be ready to change past behaviors. Prayers for all, including both boys, for healing and change.

Thanks for the input regarding your knowledge of Brian and the uniform colors. Very interesting. I think it's very telling that Torey isn't a good prisoner. I don't know if I believe Brian has changed. He could be a model prisoner and still have psychopathic traits. Admittedly, his apologizing and acknowledging his crimes is a step in the right direction. Also, Brian didn't ask for sympathy by telling you about his past. He was friendly and helpful with you and wasn't expecting anything in return. That's a clear sign of maturity. As for Torey, he seems like a coward and an instigator. The type who expects to be coddled regardless of how egregious his actions. Mr. and Mrs. Adamcik don't want to face the fact that they raised a monster. Good luck to you now and in the future.

Dogs are unbelievably perceptive and insightful. They are the very embodiment of "creatures of habit" and if anything is out of place or their routine is disturbed, you'll know all about it. My late dog was the same - he would bark at nothing (which wasn't nothing to him), or start to become restless 10-15 minutes before a family member came home, or if you were slightly late taking him for his evening walk he kicked up a fuss and started pestering you (going early wasn't a problem for some reason).

I will never forget this case back when I 1st heard of it, the violence inflicted on beautiful Cassie was atrocious, I pray those two psychopaths NEVER see freedom

I feel so much for the boyfriend and mum. The boyfriend because I imagine he'd blame himself (even though he absolutely shouldn't!) for leaving/ not insisting on Cassie and the animals come with and the mum for being angry at Cassie for not responding as that would be heartwrenching with hindsight

🦋Hey Mike😘 Just want to let you know that I appreciate the last clip of the “ seeing your buddy from across the yard”. This is a very tragic case BUT I am always grateful for your ability to put a smile on my face even through discussions that are ultimately very, very sad 😔

For anyone who got confused when the killers said they would probably be up in Cassie's room; the teen cousin who found her also is named Cassie.

Why did they say there was a young girl dead on the floor? Maybe bc they were generalizing it just seems awfully impersonal and it be your cousin/niece on the floor.
Maybe they couldn't identify her bc she was so messed up.
Those guys are just so cringe. What ridiculous creations they are.

@@cw6621 Likely due to shock or because she was unidentifiable at a glance. They used knives, so it was a very bloody scene.

Yeah if I saw something like that I wouldn't want to look and would just get away and ring emergency services so that may have been wishful thinking that it wasn't her.

Most of us true crime freaks are extremely aware of this story; however, you added in a couple things at the end that I wasn't aware of. Plus it was done in Mikey style, which is always my fav! ❤

I put off watching this one until now, because it’s a story I’ve read/watched about 100 times. I’m only halfway through and now I wished I had watched sooner. Nobody does it like Mike!

Thanks for getting to this one Mike. I messaged you on last December about it, not sure if you ever saw that or not, but this happened 45 min away from where I have lived all my life so it really kinda hits home
