      @@lymmy9609 Define "rehabilitation". What does that look like for Shelia Eddy? The whole class is on pins and needles to find out.
      Thing is, once somebody has proven themselves capable of inflicting 50 stab wounds on a supposed "friend", that tends to put a damper on the whole "trust" thing. Personally, professionally, no matter, even if she Did get parole, it's not like she would have an array of options in polite society. Employers, landlords, financial institutions, insurance companies, stock brokers, educators, creditors, freelance platforms - none of these people would ever feel safe accepting her, so where does that leave her? Some seedy hotel room in the bad part of town, with a coin toss between becoming a prostitute or drug dealer, changing rooms occasionally when the cops start watching the place once traffic gets too heavy.
      Whichever direction between those two routes [or if they're merged together] remember at the end of the day - when the session is done and the last crack rock's been smoked, you must never turn your back. That woman has a psycho-clown smile that rivals John Wayne Gacy, and I promise you, it hasn't changed one bit, since the day she murdered Skylar Neese.

    neither girl should have been given the option of parole. according to their stories they TALKED ABOUT killing this young lady before they committed the murder, thus PREMEDITATION.

    • @brianv3ntura
      @brianv3ntura 5 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      That's not how their local law works. Sheila got 1st degree murder which premeditation falls under, but rachel got 2nd degree for her cooperation with the investigation and taking the plea deal.
      Parole was just an act of mercy, but chances of actually going on parole is pretty slim.

    • @sly3186
      @sly3186 4 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Also the fact that they had a shovel, change of clothes and bleach in the trunk all point to premeditated murder! I agree they should have life in prison without the chance of parole! Also I think it was an obsession that they had ... Some kind of some sick fantasize about killing someone and getting away with it... I don't think they murdered her cause she knew their secrets I think it was something they fantasized about together and wanted to do it!

    • @Ocrilat
      @Ocrilat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I think it's pretty obvious why Rachel Shoaf only got 2nd degree murder. The police and FBI were baffled, and didn't have a suspect until Shoaf turned herself in, told the whole story, and took police to the body. If she didn't do that, they might not have solved the case.

    • @Ocrilat

      For real I absolutely felt his pain and how devastated he was. He's a wonderful dad and you can tell how much he cares and is so beside himself with hurt. I wanted to hug him so badly. This was so incredibly senseless and very tragic. It must have felt good hearing the life sentence but it's no justice. It's justice for the fact they are young so to spend the rest of your life in jail when your only a teen is kind of justice but it doesn't bring their baby back. Those were two incredibly loving parents. I've watched the 2020 episode on this case and watched the court trial and always wanted to reach out to them. My heart broke when I watched this

    Unfortunately this seems to happen every decade. It happened in the 80s with Missy, 90s with Shada Sharer. Almost similar ways these girls lives were taken by their “friends.” The best advice I can give is if you’re having an argument off and on with your friend and they call you at night and wanna go for a drive to talk, don’t go, they’ll take you somewhere into the woods or a secluded area, it won’t end well. You can talk in the morning.

    The purpose of the lawsuit against the killer girls and their parents isn’t actually based on the belief that the parents are responsible. It’s to prevent them or the girls from ever being able to profit financially from the story-so they settle for a large sum of money and other undisclosed legal terms so if the family ever does write a book, do interviews, or a documentary etc that money will go to the families of the victims instead of the perpetrators.
    It’s actually a quite common legal strategy in high profile cases.

      Parole eligibility for Sheila was 15 years (natural life sentence which she would serve if she is never approved for parole) and for Rachel it was 10 years (but can serve no more than 30 years) Rachel got a lighter sentence for admitting to it. Also they cannot be released earlier than 10 and 15 years. Parole is firm for attempted murder convictions like this. You must serve the minimum before parole is even considered. Prison life is sometimes not as bad as it is made out to be.. sure, it's worse than having freedom. But in prison, you can make friends sometimes rather than just enemies.. you get free food and free healthcare in prison.. and unfortunately, sometimes murderers actually get let out of prison after a certain amount of time. I find it creepy how mundane and seemingly joking can our attitude be towards killing nowadays. If you trivialize death, at some point you might actually start thinking it's ok to take someone's life away, especially at such a young age when you haven't experienced deaths of your loved ones and don't know all the seriousness of losing somebody forever.
      I come from a rural area of an Eastern European country. As a kid, I never ever said to anybody or heard anybody else saying "I'll kill you" as a joke or goofing around. It was too serious a topic to treat as a joke or a game. Yes, we could tell horror stories about death and ghosts and such, but we never ever dared to actually threaten to kill someone.
      Fast-forward twenty years. Kids are watching stupid cartoons where characters hit each other deadly. Kids are getting angry and yelling at each other "I'll kill you" for every minor conflict. Is that normal?
      Ok, I don't want to sound like a grumpy grandpa, but still, there must be a line which we shouldn't have crossed. But we have and I'm not sure how we'll get back to the situation when children had more respect towards life and health of other people. I guess we lost the innocence at some point when the modern Western culture stormed in...

      There's a really insightful comment on this video that clears that up. Mike left out a part of the story: Rachel had been promised immunity, because at the time the police and prosecutors genuinely believed that the two girls did not murder Skylar. They told Rachel, basically "tell us what you know and we will not charge you with anything." They were expecting to hear about how Skylar left with some dude. Instead, Rachel confessed to the murder. But as it turns out, Skylar's body was found across state lines, so that state threatened her with 1st degree murder if her home state didn't charge her with anything. So she accepted/asked for a 2nd degree murder charge instead. Sheela(spell check) got the 1st degree.

      Yes,friendships And socialisation are a major part in young people,though every school has a different environment.Ultimately,some environments aren’t fit for those people to make friends because a)The friendship will just be a prank and the person leading them on b)they can’t find a group of friends they like and would fit into.Isolation is okay I think in those cases.I sure was for my first 2 years of secondary,with basically no real friends.
      Though that is the past and things have changed.Hell school life is not the only way to socialise.If a person has no friends at school,they can have them outside,e.g:a certain club outside of school or from meeting due to same/similar hobbies.

You can't tell people how to handle their grief and loss. They are not the ones on trial... so don't treat them like it and have a little bit of respect in your words. You are addressing people who have lost their children with judgment for no benefit to you or them. Some people can only live with forgiveness because otherwise they would spend the entire rest of their lives seething in hatred. Let them have their peace.

    I've seen a lot of videos about some of the stories he covers in other places, but he sometimes has more in depth information covering them. You could hear the pain and anger in her dad's voice when he read his victims impact statement. I can only imagine his pain. RIP beautiful girl💜

      Feel horrid for the murderers parents. Apparently they left the 2 alone they weren't in court.
      My son has been incarcerated for dumb stuff like becoming drunk on the mta busline : disorderly conduct. It overwhelmed me with his odd behavior
      He had gotten help and is working at his problems. But nothing like this thank God and I did not send $ to the commissary.

    I’ve seen this and lived this before. You have a best friend who you’ve known since you were younger and suddenly a new girl comes along and she leaves you in the dust and starts to treat you like trash. If any younger girls are watching this just ditch the friendship, it’s not worth the pain and jealousy you’re gonna feel and you’re worth a whole lot more than that.❤️
