To be completely fair though, he could’ve been an accomplice. Cops sometimes arrest suspects to make them sweat and sell the idea that talking straight away greatly helps them in court. There have been cases before with multiple working together for the murder or a hitman where the technique worked.
If you committed the lesser crime, have a chance to avoid the death penalty or know you’ll hang due to evidence, being the first to strike a deal can help you out incredibly. Depending on your info and the “big fish” you can plea out of jail time or more than halve your sentence.

In all fairness to the detectives here, the husband/boyfriend killing the wife dynamic happens so often it's always the best place to start. 1. He waits till 4pm to call the police and report her missing!. 2. A very public disagreement played out the night before between the two of them. 3. He'd been abusing Nikki physically. 4. a beating like she took, poor thing, is rage (usually)associated with someone who has personal ties. 5. He had no one to confirm his alibi between the hours of 12:30am, and 11am the next morning. 6. Nikki was a white woman, plain and simple, the judge was not taking the chance of him skipping town, so the decision to arrest was made. They awaited the DNA, and then everything changed.

This is why I love the motto of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (and other law enforcement agencies) taken from the Supreme Court case of Berger v. U.S. (1935). Justice George Sutherland reminded law enforcement that the law has **two aims**: "that guilt not escape, nor innocence suffer". Too often I think prosecutors only remember the former and forget the latter.

There isn't room for everybody to graduate at the top of the class; and not everybody can afford a top level attorney. Everybody has their part to play. And maybe every so often, a suspect (not saying this one in particular) deserves a "mediocre" defense attorney for their actions. Like the most horrifying serial killers and sociopaths.
But someone who maybe slipped up and made a mistake, unplanned, manslaughter type situation, no sign of it in their past, OR a potential innocent suspect with circumstantial/lack of evidence -- I'd say they deserve a good lawyer and a strong defense case.

Sadly , I was close to this case, the images presented in court during the medical examiner’s testimony will forever be burned in my mind. Her face was completely unidentifiable and it was heart breaking to see all her injuries.
Unfortunately for Doug , there was enough probable cause at the time of his arrest to take him into custody, due to the crime scene being in the road outside his house, the blood found in his garage , and the video didn’t mention there was also a tissue with blood found in the garbage inside his house too. He wasn’t released until results came back from the crime lab to determine non of the blood was from Nikki.
A month after Nikki was found, and before george had connection to her death, George was questioned about a hit and run accident in Green Bay with his truck fitting the description, He voluntarily let the officers download all the content on his phone, from that hit and run incident.
Once he was identified from CODIS, almost 4 months later, the police were able to see he had contact with an officer about the hit and run incident and they had all the content and gps locations from his phone before even arresting him for Nikkis death . To enter dna into CODIS you need a full dna profile . Remarkably, Out of the 100+ swabs taken from Nikki, only one swab came back from the lab with a full dna profile. She was only wearing one sock when she was found. the full dna profile came from the inside of the top of her sock.
Thank god for dna and technology , or George would of never been found.

maybe not in regards to murder per se, but minor crime like buying weed or something. worse yet, if some drug dealer is nailed and goes to jail because some officers said "you sold weed to these people, and we know because we tracked their [device] to where you sold it to them, repeatedly, for many weeks" then that drug dealer might come out at a later date with retribution to redeem for (in his mind) the people that got him caught.

This is the third case out of GB that I've heard of that is fucked up. Google the case of the Green Bay Mill murder in the 90's and the murder of a police officer's wife in the 90's as well. Both super questionable cases, tons of reasonable doubt, yet convictions were secured in both cases. Now this one...

Always amazing how easy it is to become wrongly accused. Horrifying actually.

I can't imagine being accused of murder and sitting in jail for it, all the while being completely innocent of the crime! I know there's countless amounts of wrongful convictions out there, but this video certainly give pause for thought. Good job Mike.

I’ve become very fascinated and relaxed listening to your voice telling these grisly tales.
My father was murdered by an estranged and abusive stepfather .
My ma and I sought refuge after the intervention order proved useless at protecting us. We were stalked for two weeks as we lived with my natural father.
The end of the story is cold blooded murder , but the bad guy gets away with it in high court. He admitted to stalking and bringing the weapon to our home . He admitted the confrontation with my father . But his testimony was that he was offering the weapon to my father to protect us against him and my father grabbed the end of the gun causing it to fire a lethal shot in his aorta .
My father used his last moments to chase his murderer down the drive way .
I guess it’s therapeutic to hear stories where the baddies get justice .. because sadly my dad , ma and myself never did .
Thankyou for covering these stories with the humour and irony you do . It’s not entertainment for me it’s therapy.
    ❤️ much respect

@Truthis Thenewhatespeech it’s probably become a matter for karmic law, I’ve had to take a real close look at how to heal from serious trauma. CPTSD was diagnosed at age 40 years. Long after the event at 12 yrs age. But I had to cope to move on. Lots more I could add to my journey . But what I’m going to highlight about my recent strategies is this technique. Revision . I choose a time I won’t be interrupted and get myself into a very relaxed mindset. Breathing techniques and body scanning. So next , I use my invagination skills to construct a new story from the point where I felt the trauma began. For me I decided to go to before my Ma separated from my dad . I felt like this was my first big shock and to imagine my life course from there on .
It was actually an emotional thing to do, but more like happy tears . Big difference. I drifted off to sleep and awoke feeling really uplifted. Like a weight was taken from me. Like I had tapped into a different version of myself . One that didn’t have chronic pain from fibromyalgia . People noticed I have a glow and energy that was really different. I’m so happy to discover great mentors on TH-cam . Joseph Alai. Is one who really helped with the revision and lots of other great self help.
This might be the true justice for me . I have no idea what became of the murderer . And finally I’m not recreating toxic relationships from the wounded parts of my psyche .

It’s scary because you can almost hear in the cop interviewing him that he was not sympathetic, and was pointing the finger. I know they have to be thorough but there is something called ‘innocent until proven guilty’. As far as that interview sounded they were focusing and him and not investigating anyone else. The blinkers go on in so many cases it makes me wonder what they often do to find anyone else other than the partner
