That was two songs. I wish you had done a lyrics version of When the Tigers Broke Free. The “tigers” were German tanks that broke through the British lines and killed his father. It does end abruptly at the end of the last line, “and that’s how the high command took my daddy from me.” This is the true story of the death of Eric Waters. Roger Waters lost his father, Eric, in World War II. His father was killed in the battle of Anzio when Roger was an infant. His grandfather was killed in World War I when his father was an infant as well.

    It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black '44
When the forward commander was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn
    And, the generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back the enemy tanks... for a while
And the Anzio bridgehead was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives...

@@jwhardin740 true, but the final cut was pretty much a bside album to the wall and pink Floyd pretty much imploded during the making of the wall. According to nick masons book, they were not that fond of the final cut for that reason. Pity, I think it's a great album but as for this song influencing waters later pf work, my point is correct. I remember the first time I heard this song, about Roger Waters father being killed at Anzio in a German Panzer (Tiger) tank attack. I don't think it was originally on The Wall album, but was put into the film, and first appeared on The Final Cut.
    "It was dark all around
There was frost in the ground
    When the tigers broke free
    And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company Z
    They were all left behind
    Most of them dead
    The rest of them dying
And that's how the High Command
    Took my daddy from me"
That last line, and the abrupt ending was like the angriest mic drop I've ever heard.

Eric Fletcher Waters was Roger Waters father who died at Anzio in WWII, he never met his father, and as the film goes hefound the letter from George V in a drawer when he was a kid, the tigers are the Royal fusillers regiment of the British army. If you ever watch the film adaptaion of the album it will become quite clear as this song was never on the studio album but appeared in the film.

Roger is basically recalling the painful memory of how his father died when his company was fully decimated by a line of german Tiger tanks, hence " When the Tigers broke free"

There is a better version from Bring the Boys Back Home.. That is the lamest of them all, the prolonged operatic version. It just repeats the same thing over and over again, not building up to anything but staying at the same emotional level. The original is hundred times better.
Also, when listening to The Wall, the shorter songs almost always are part of a whole. Like Bring the Boys Back Home, it is only 1 minute 27 seconds long. It used to be in the first half of the b-side.
Hey You is its own song, then Is There Anybody Out There and Nobodys Home that are really just one song, Vera and Bring the Boys are also really just one song, thematically they make no sense to listen them separately.. So if the song is less than 3 minutes long in that album, you can be quite damn sure it is just intro or another part of song before/after..
