    One of my great-grandmothers was a mail order bride. My great grandfather in Montana arranged for her to come from the east coast. She arrived in town on a train in mid-day. When they met at the station, he said "if you don't like me I'll pay for your ticket home." She said, "I came all the way out here, we might as well get married." They went to the courthouse and got married, and he went back to work in the afternoon. They stayed together for the rest of his life.

      Thats epic. Shows just how different things were before mass media entertainment notions of romance spoiled the marriage game. Back in the day, people understood that marriage was more of a financial arrangement than a perpetual honeymoon for lovers. The woman got someone to support her and give her children after she got too old to stay in her parents house, and the man got children to continue his family name (which was important to people of that time) as well as someone to care for the family and home while he was away earning a living. As long as they didnt completely hate each other, or there was no abuse involved, it was a perfectly normal arrangement.

    My grandfather came to the US in 1911 from Italy. About 5 years later he sent a letter to the mayor of his town asking if any single girl would like to come to America. The mayor asked around and sent him 3 names. He recognized my grandmother's name and told the mayor to "ship her over" .My grandmother came to NY with her uncle and for 6 months they courted. After they were married, had 9 children and were married for 65 years until my Grandfather died.

      Uh, that was the 19th century: the spelling rules changed little from then to now. 'right" was supposed to be spelled "right" back then, not "rite": I read technical manuals form back then, when researching the history of firearms, as well as Paleontology. And I can refer you to Samuel Johnson's dictionary, completed in 1756.
      And anyway, as I implied very clearly: it's irrelevant. What matters is what he conveyed. And that's the point: it's not your education that makes you who you are. It's your character. And that guy was a very frank fellow.

  • @Fadamor
    @Fadamor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +197

    In 2003/2004 I dated and then married a Russian woman I met on a Russian Dating site. This is today's version of "mail order brides". To answer the question posed in the title of this video (as far as U.S. rules are concerned), no, you can't just order one and then marry them. About the only step that gets accelerated from a "regular" immigration process is that a "Fiance Visa" can be issued that bypasses the normal lottery process other immigrants have to go through. The fiance still has to be screened by the U.S. Consulate in her home country prior to being approved for a visa and, once in the United States, the couple MUST be married within 90 days of entry. Even though accelerated, the process for visa approval can still take a year from the time the U.S. citizen initially applies. The U.S. citizen can expect to pay upwards of $1,500 in fees for the visa and other paperwork required to convert a foreign national into a naturalized U.S. citizen. Once married, then prepare for about another year of paperwork to get through the rest of the Permanent Resident/Naturalization process. So at least as far as the U.S. is concerned, the concept of a "mail order bride" no longer means what it used to.

From what she said, it was a lineup of women and basically the agency is gonna take pictures of them and the men gets to pick who they want. She found success in Korea but found out she had stage 3 breast cancer a few years ago now, she went back to the Philippines with her kids to live there for good (she wants to rest peacefully there.)

    Knew a man who had a mail order bride. He was wheelchair bound, in his late 60’s, and needed a live in nurse. His family wanted him to also have companionship and took a very different path to get it. She was from the Philippines and trained as a nurse (her training would not be recognized in Canada) and she was a lovely woman. From what I saw she seemed quite happy and she was well aware what she was getting into -she was even sent all his medical records etc before they decided to marry. He died about seven years after they married and she inherited all him assets -which were extensive- and still seen as family by everyone.

    I am from Chile, living in Germany with my German husband. We met while studying abroad in Scotland, so not a mail order bride here. Since I moved to Germany I've been hearing lots of horror stories of guys that bring brides from Latin-America, Asia or Africa just to keep them locked in their house and abuse them at will. And whenever I mention I'm not feeling great or I have some problem, many people automatically ask if my husband is being good to me, like they always assume the worst about him. But all of the German/foreign couples I've met so far are stable, normal couples. One of them met through one of those latina brides websites. I guess it's the bad apples that get the most publicity, but not the majority. That doesn't mean the horror stories I've heard aren't real, so girls please make sure you know someone before moving to another country to be with them, and make sure you always have a way out should anything happen.

I've seen many exposes on these companies and they have a team of writers, buy photos, and post numerous fake profiles. Luring men in with promises of a hot euro wife.
      The only real way to do it is to simply travel to the Ukraine etc and meet the old fashioned way. Only there, the fact that you're north american, makes you infinitely more attractive. I have heard that Poland is the same way. Literally 10 attractive women for each man and the men are arrogant buffoons. I worked with an East Indian family who had a construction company (among others). The grandparents were arranged and they'd been together for 60 years. The eldest son had a russian wife and I swear she was a mail order bride. They asked me to go over to their place and set up a massive new tv for them. Grandpa sat on the couch to see about positioning and grandma came in from the kitchen, sat right down next to him, took his hand in hers and rested her head on his shoulder. It was so sweet.
      They had an incredibly attractive daughter. I'm talking runway model beautiful. I'm talking causing traffic accident beautiful. I heard a rumor that she was quite the B*tch. The eldest son let it on to me that the family had sent her back to India for an arranged marriage and a month after the wedding, he sent her home because of her demeanor. I ended up having a few run ins with her myself and she was the literally the WORST person (male or female) I'd ever had to deal with and I've dealt with some real winners.
      One day we were standing outside their building talking about a project and the sister walks up. The eldest nods his head to her a couple of times to signal "hey hey, you, her, what about it"? lol I shook my head vigorously NOOOOOOO he rolled his eyes. When she left he said "No"? I said "not only no, but NOT ON YOUR LIFE no" lol He said "this is driving my parents nuts...they so want her married off but they can't even offer $100,000.00 to a guy to do it......hint hint hint" I said "make it $1,000,000.00" he just shook his head and walked away lol.....

      There are a lot of people who do not marry for love. Rather money, family, or status. To be honest, I find myself rather in the second one there, family. I want to settle down, have a family soon enough ideally, have kids. And yes, I would want love, but clearly my hunt isn't just "to find a woman to love", in both senses of the word.
      I see nothing wrong with it. I would want my marriage to include love, just not necessarily be the primary purpose of it.

      @@adrianbundy3249 More people need to look at it like that honestly. You are, after all, marrying a whole person and not one feeling. I think the biggest mistake is trying to tie down "One Right Way" when there is clearly more than one right way. Culture, Interests, even economics can matter to some. It really depends on those two people. If you marry someone who is abusive it really doesn't matter why or how you married, that relationship is toxic and should be abandoned. If you marry for culture reasons that doesn't exclude a love growing. Underage forced marriages do not count as that is forced slavery. All potential partners should have the right the consent or say no.

      @adrianbundy3249 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@uselesscause6128 More to the point, I feel too many people go there not just for a feeling, but an idea of a person as they are then, without long term thinking on how people change long term. And if you don't have the right ideas about long term planning, like I hope to achieve, the relationship can be stressed quite a bit more over time. Even kids could be a factor if you didn't think about how each mentality would be towards them, as they could either be a binding force, or a separating force, sadly enough - for some parents. And they don't consider it coming into it.
      My issue is finding a women these days with the family values I look for is hard, but as it is the only reason for me to really keep a women, I say no to all other options easy enough. Still, they appear to be hard to come by, in a world gone mad, and quite a bit vain. I am also not saying 'full trad fam', as I understand that a working mom isn't necessarily a bad one, just that the goal would be the kids, for parents in general, and it will be done, not put very far off, and it will be planned, and taken care off properly whichever way is best at the time, to things we can both accept.

    I saw a news piece a long time ago about a guy who set up a mail-order bride service for bachelor farmers in America. He'd go to the local high school and ask how many guys planned to still live in the area in ten years. A number of them raised their hands. Then he'd ask the girls, and NOT ONE of them would raise their hand. He'd say, "This what you're facing guys: being in your prime marrying years without a single eligible woman around."

He and his new wife also spent a good while trying to sell wives to others, they ended up paying for quite a few holidays to China for some lonely men who subsequently disappeared until the time came to fly back.

    Yeah, in the '90's I knew a guy from work who got interested in "Russian Brides". After the fall of communism and the opening up of the nations that had made up the former Soviet Union there were a lot of women there who were eager to find a husband in the west. This guy went to one of those places that organized "mixers" . The prospective husbands went on a tour of the former Soviet States going to a number of different cities where mixers had been organized. If a guy met a girl he liked and she liked him - he'd visit with her family and get to know them - cause one of the things not mentioned in this video was that you were NOT JUST getting a wife - you were getting her family too. Once they got a daughter in The States - they were going to start working on getting ALL of them over there with her.
    The guy I knew was a kind of quiet, shy, mousy computer programmer who would not have and had not found success on the dating scene here. Last I heard - he'd found himself a bride but then I lost touch with him due to the vagaries of work so I don't know how it went. I recall that she was pretty.
    As to the money - with this guy as an example - as a computer programmer, he was a very well paid person with a highly marketable skill. Lacking any one but himself to spend his money on - yeah - he probably had a lot of money saved. For him to reach out for happiness that way was - if it worked - well worth the cost and the risk.
    I also remember there being web pages you could find via a search on "Russian Brides". That had hundreds of pictures of girls on them. Of course, as with anything on the internet - you were going to be dealing with some things that were scams.
    Since the different states of the former Soviet Union have gotten themselves sorted out some what, I've not heard as much about "Russian Brides" as I did back then. I suspect that with the stabilization of these countries their home town prospects improved and girls were less willing to undergo the stresses of taking up life with a strange man in a strange country.
    As I understand it there are also any number of other countries around the world where you can find girls wanting a different life.
    The impression I got from all of this was that most of these girls (from the places that were not scams ...) were decent people just looking for an opportunity to improve their lives and - yes - as said in the video, found western men a lot nicer to them than the local males. There was, of course, always the case that once they had their citizenship and had gotten their family moved over with them - they might lose interest in the guy who had made all that possible (especially girls who had been very young when they came over and were still very pretty). These girls now had access to other men in their new country, that were more appealing than the guy who'd been so desperate as to go looking for a "mail order bride". But - a lot of them genuinely loved the man who had gotten they and their family to their new country - if for no other reason than that he had done that for them.
    .

I did post something a week ago, but it was a reupload of something that I thought I had lost for years. For the most part, I haven't regularly updated it in a long time. My channel looks like something that was made by a kid because I was a kid when I made it. Every now and then I get comments where people think I'm a kid, but I honestly have no plans on updating it any time soon, I would rather just make a new channel than do that.
      I did really get a few blowjobs from using tinder though. Idgaf if you don't believe that, cause it's not really much of an achievement. I just thought it was kind of funny and worth mentioning.
