Mel is the real deal and has fought in front of thousands in Thailand. He doesn't train breaking bats. It's just for demonstration purpose so an audience can see what kind of power is delivered by a well trained kick. Body hardening training has been done by traditional martial artist for years. Besides an excellent martial artist, Mel Menor is a great trainer and still teaches in San Diego at his gym.
Muay Thai fighters don't condition their shins by hitting hard objects like trees or poles. They condition their shins from years of kicking heavy bags and sparring without shinpads or mouthpieces. These is how they condition their legs and bodies, so muay thai fighters being able to kick and break down banana trees is just a perk they get due to years of kicking heavy bags.
Ya dont kick trees right away youll break your legs. They even advise agaisnt using rolling pins to desesitize them just kick that bag and spar. You can use a rolling pin just rake it acorsso the shin but trust me it doesnt feel good and you still have to kick while its sore or its uselss and just bruises you.
Well nobody would think a soccer kick or a punt would break a bat. Those kicks are designed to do what they're designed to do! The Thai Kick would be equally useless on a football. Cool that the kick can break the bat though!
Depends on the point of contact. The further down the leg, the more force is generated. So you would generate the most force at the foot, rather then the shin. The main reason Muay Thai fighters hit with the shin is because it's one solid bone instead of the foot which is a collecting of small bones.
Notice the lowness of the kick. Watch for the motion's concerted timing, especially the pivot of the foot, the core turning, the knee leading the shin into the target, dissipating the full power.
Funny thing. In a japanese No Laugh or punishment TV show (Gaki no Tsukai - Batsu Games) there's this punishment "Thai kick" which they get kicked in the butt by a Muay Thai practitioner. There was this special episode where they called a japanese champion and to demonstrate he broke three stacked baseball bats with one kick.
Part of what you need to measure force is the resistance. Those balls put almost no resistance, so the force is going to be a lot lower. The punters kick being launched into a human would show numbers in the upper thousand.
+mrbokchoyz1 It hard to say who is the best muay thai fighter. Buakaw is famous because his aggressive style yodsanklai also aggressive and powerful strike too.
They are not calculating the force of the two other assistants that they deliver to the bat, one of them produces a force clockwise and the other anti-clockwise and those two are added to the initial force produced by the kick.. so technically he's very good, but the assistants helped in breaking the bat more easily !
Vince Lombardi was predictable too. He knew it, and whoever was playing the Packers knew it. Guess what both teams also knew? That they couldn't stop the Packers anyway, so it didn't matter. His whole philosophy was, "Keep it simple, get insanely good at those simple things, and then it doesn't matter if they know it's coming or not, because they can't stop it."
When the object being hit is fixed then obviously it will register greater force compared to object which is moved by hitting. For example if the muay thai fighter would be kicking small ball his reading wouldn’t be as great as 720.
this is really just good technique, eating healthy and 100's of kicks on a heavy bag a day. btw, there are kicks SO MUCH more powerful than a roundhouse
+Krain N roundkick, turning side kick, knee, wheel kick, some caporia kicks and many more. I've never tried it, but I'm sure I could break a bat with my experience skill and technique in martial arts.
+Krain N Yes, the hip geometry of a wheel kick is very much like an ice duster l skater doing a spinning trick. while the geometry of a roundhouse is similar to a man swinging a bat. As you can tell, I love martial arts!
+Tre' Roney Very true. However, for such a powerful kick, a roundhouse kick is considered more effective and efficient due to its speed and the simplicity of performing it. It's one of the most effective kicks that can be used in a fight than many other powerful kicks. But is it the strongest kick? Nah, definitely not. All the kicks you've listed are much more powerful.
Yeah, almost every kicking martial art has the potential to break a bat. Hell; my shinkyokushin shihan held a world record for breaking so many bats over and over.
The whole time all I wanted to see was a camera angle of him throwing the kick with his standing leg in the shot. It looks like he doesn't pivot during the kick and instead lands his left (non kicking) foot twisted in the position it would be at the end of the kick and then throws his hips into the kick. Is that possible because he was running into the strike? and therefore if he was standing still would he need to pivot to generate the extra power missing?
I personally kick like him. I do muaythai in 2 different styles and I know exactly what ur talking about. 1 school tells me to kick like him, the other tells me to change and use more hip and leg rotation to generate more force....

Not necessarily, because humans usually instinctively rear up their leg, meaning he'd be kicking a limp object. So their leg would hurt like Hell and bounce backwards, but not shatter like the bat because it was actually held in place by two assistants

muay thai fighters kick through trees for fun
Hahaha serious?
look it up, u may see some kicking banana trees but thats a joke, they actually kick hard trees for fun at some camp lol(pretty hard to find)
There's a youtube video of my trainer kicking through a baseball bat. He doesn't look it but he's a beast.
Just search PAC muay thai.
Banana trees yes, and they are not super hard but still damn it improves their shins!
bah
You can definitely defeat at least 2 enemies after breaking the bat in half and throwing it at them.
As soon as a Muay Thai kicks you, you gone, even before a punch reaches you. That's why I do it in Brazil.
I heard the Brazilian mma fighter Anderson Silva broke his shin while kicking another guy's shin in the octagon
कालदमन phdns yes the other guy checked his kick at a bad angle that’s why it broke.
BUAKAW!!!! no leg can beat this dude
Are you saying no leg kick can beat buakaw or are you saying the guy kicking the bat in this video is buakaw??
KyosaNimGe just saying dude, buakaw's leg is like a brick there is hardly no-one who can kick as strong or powerful than him ^^
Yoshi Nagatomo OH! Trust me I know! Buakaw is made of steel! He is my favorite fighter he is truly talented and dedicated!
KyosaNimGe cheers pal ^^
I love BUAKAW. Nothing fancy. Just raw brute force. The man is a beast.
now the aluminum bat
It would just dent and aluminum alloy is very strong.

Chuck Norris was called to do this as well, but he kept ripping the guy's arms off that are holding the bat.

Chuck norris is bruce lees bitch. Bruce lee made him the joke that he is.
I love Muay Thai! I want to be strong like that as well!

Are u fucking kidding me the best Muay Thai fighter is buakaw por pramuk
mrbokchoyz1 What's your point?
i think saenchai would have something to say about that but anyway like mumble beats said whats your point?
