- Prey 2022 has got the highest ratings from all predator movies. The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth. In this video, we compare the two creatures from the first movie to the latest. I hope you enjoy the review.

I like that this new Predator isn't as OP as the others, his gear doesn't make him unstoppable it just give him the upper hand.
Which I thought was 1) Meant to not to give him an overt advantage of the primitive humans, and/or 2) Meant to make his hunt more challenging than it would be with energy weapons
op? the old predator lost to Danny glover. the new one 1v1 a bear. When he got his hand on her throat it should have been over. I liked the movie though.
@@John-oo8dn yea that's what I meant. His camo alone gives him a massive advantage in battle but his camo isn't perfect. You can still make out that "Something" is there even though it's not fully visible. That's part of what evens the playing field and being aware of your surroundings, in general, is good but in Predator movies, it's entertaining to see.
He beat a bear to death with his bare hands, the only Predator we've seen that would take him is probably Wolf
Isn't OP.........put down the crack pipe and back away slowly. In the first film when the Predator was shot in the leg with a single bullet it had to move off into the jungle to perform some battlefield triage. In Prey Jason Voorhees in a mask takes a incredible amount of damage and showed no ill effects. He was run through with a spear, had a spear run through his foot, took a stone hatchet to the side of the head from a guy on a galloping horse and was even shot point blank in the back of the head with a .50 caliber flint lock pistol where the round went through the back of his head and came out the front of his head and yet it didn't do squat. This movie is it is not a Predator movie, it is a Friday the 13th style slasher film.
I love that the design of the Feral Predator resembles a Wendigo. Also I doubt if they'll keep him the first Predator on Earth if they make more movies. I mean, look at that shield lol. So many possibilities
I think every time they come to earth they learn of new ways to fight thier prey and adapt.
Could of gotten the idea of a shield from Spartans.. got the idea for guns from guns humans use. Every time they come to earth they arm themselves with new, better weapons to fight with.. so by now they see humans use guns so the predators will make the laser guns to better fight humans..
@@andrewpayne5093 Not exactly true. I feel like it’s safe to assume that they definitely had plasma casters and advanced helmets by now. The reason why this predator doesn’t use one could be due to 1 of 2 reasons.
1. The yautja clan he’s a part of could only want for honorable fights whereas the other ones we see feel like it’s necessary to use advanced tech. (Explained in predators and the predator)
2. He is a younger rookie who needs to “level up” in yautja society in order to get advanced tech. This explains why he’s relatively weaker and is unintelligent compared to predators like wolf.
It looks more of skinwalker, which makes sense since native Americans believe in those urban legends. Nice touch by the director.

The director made it clear in an interview that this is not the first time a Predator hunted on Earth. It's only the first time for the Predator in this movie.
I loved that the Feral Predator was just very willing to take damage and go kinda into a berserker rage. Him fighting a bear was great, and him killing a bunch of White Colonizers was pretty amazing, not going to lie

Good analysis, but there's a slight discrepancy in the evolution of The Predator in the franchise. If you recall in Alien vs. Predator, we got a look at the Predator when they visited earth during the reign of the Mayans and the Aztec, hundreds of years before Feral Predator. The Predators during that time looked very similar to the version In Alien vs. Predator.
During the video he touched on that briefly. He said basicly that with the entry of this movie the AvP timeline is never persisted and the feral predator is the first predator to hunt on earth

this makes me want to watch the movie again. it was freakin awesome. this predator was smaller but way more agile and lean. loved the different types of predators.
I think that this predator is adapting Hits fighting style and the use of technology based on the opponent. Its landed on an a technology wise primitive earth. So it would simpy be unfair to have energy weapons to begin With. Furthermore when facing animals he only used close combat weapons so that they would be a challenge to him. Only later on when he was opposing more opponents or received heavy damage he switched to more advanced weapons to make sure he wont lose. In general I think that this species is more interested in a fair and hard hunting and fighting experience than the prior seen predators. Only that feral is a coward sometimes and not perfectly skilled in the use of weapons

I really love predator movies..Though dutch's predator is unmachable, but I think this skull predator is just great because he is not op and also avp timeline wont be removed I believe coz he is not the first one to arrive on earth.
They can probably time travel. The 1st one can come on 1715 & another one, more advanced, can choose another timeline.

Out of all the predators we have seen so far, this feral guy took the most damage despite being almost armorless if not for his mask and shield and yet beat the crap out of everyone. That's the main reason why Naru took him down so easily, but even then he almost killed her.
I honestly wouldn’t say it took the most damage, the predator that hunted in LA get hit by shotgun shells point blank, got his arm cut off 2/3 of the movie, and still continued the hunt. Keep in mind shotgun shells are far more damaging than an impairment
There's a theory he's a Young Blood. It makes sense given how hasty and brash his actions were in the movie.

It would be extremely improbable that a fully armored fully experienced predator would be taken out by earlier primitive weapons. It would hurt the movie. Obviously this Predator is far superior to any human in terms of strength as evidenced by lifting a fucking bear lol

Main difference was in Prey the Predator wasn't really a formidable hunter - he was a formidable fighter, he relied on brute strength. He was also incredibly stupid.

It'll be cool to show like the old myan colony warriors or like in the cold winter predators something like 10,000 bc or apocalyto the movie kind of movie. That would be amazing. Prey was a breath of fresh air and sort of a primitive original storyline. I enjoyed it.

While this Predator isn't as thicc as the others before it, it was still a badass. That rampage through the burnt woods was awesome.

Celtic was thick and buff but killed by a xenomorph because of overconfidence.

Original predator was back in 1987 but the quality of effects on the face movements still holds strong to now. You would even think it was made today. Sound effects were awesome too-
Not sure why people are saying the new predator isn't 'OP' as the others. He fought against tribes people with sticks and drunk frenchman. He used camo 99% of the time, even against animals. Had an aimbot. Had nukes. Had a bulletproof shield and mask. All other kinds of weapons that instant killed including the net. He got hit so many times but it didn't effect him one bit compared to to other predators. For the time period he is the most OP predator to appear so far.
I didn’t think I’d like this one but I found myself enjoying it. I don’t think there was any point that I got distracted or bored (which is saying something considering the last few entries in the Predator lineup lmao). I definitely enjoyed the way this predator fought. He wasn’t so quick to whip out a ranged weapon, and had no problem using no weapon at all. The fight scenes just felt different compared to the older movies. The way he methodically mowed through the fur traders was probably my favorite part by far.
Correction: This wasn’t The Yautja’s first time To earth, this was FERAL’s first time to Earth. So the species have been here before this film (as seen in AVP) so AVP timeline isn’t wiped out

One is about a predator making superhumans looks completely useless and has an amazing horror tone, the other is a cgi disaster making a super predator look useless and a very small girl look superhuman
I like the spear gun as it seems like it was meant to be train as a plasma gun after they achieve their hunt with xenomorph.
I also dont think its some old version of the plasma caster either. i just think its a different ranged weapon like how they have many other weapons that are all similar yet different.
I just like it in general, better version than the plasma nonsense in my opinion

I really enjoyed the Hulu movie Prey. It was interesting to see how the Comanche Indians handled an unknown alien threat and inspite of the Predator being more advanced than the people in 1719? The Predator was still noticeably ancient weaponry compared to the ones we're used to seeing. Ptey was a well done movie 🎥

I think this one was a Young Blood. He had to prove himself worthy in order to earn his armor. He came to Earth to practice his skill before fighting with Alien. If he had killed a Xenomorph, he would have earned his tech gear and became Blooded.

One of my favourite predator movies previous movies have failed to keep me on the edge of my seat… not this one though very tense moments fantastic design of the new predator and just a really well done movie I wish it was longer then it was though I loved it personally my favourite movie of 2022
This new design is so kickass I love it
I loved this movie. If the yautja have been genetically modifying themselves for thousands or hundreds of years, then a yautja from 300 years ago would look radically different than the one Dutch ran into in 1987.
I'm not so certain this was the first yautja on earth though, and rather, just this individual's first time on the planet. Naru says in the opening narration, "A long time ago, it is said, a monster came here" and there isn't any context to confirm if that is before or after the movie ends. Until confirmation, I'd like to believe the yautja have been hunting humans for longer and this was this yautja's coming of age hunting ritual, his first big hunt alone.
They opened up endless possibilities by setting the movie in the past. It would seem silly to limit themselves to just 300 years of human history. I'd love to see the yautja during Egyptian times, Roman times, or even Aztec/Mayan etc. Just any place where it'd have hot temperatures for yautja and interesting human history/time periods.
A quote from Trachtenberg the director of Prey:
"In my mind, this is not a prequel movie. This isn't, 'Let's tell the origin of the Predator.' This is really something that's set prior to the original Predator movie, and the Predator creature in this one, this is its first time travelling to Earth."
I think that was supposed to be Naru from the future, BUT I'm not certain and I ALSO (being half Azteca and wanting to see way more obsidian weapons) would love to see an Aztec group of Jaguars trying to capture sacrifices and that's where we get the Predator coming in and hunting them. This movie was just so damn good it opened up a world of possibilities.

The DNA thing doesn't exist for 90% of the fanbase, so the movie before this doesn't even exist. The feral is a subspecies of yautja and this is its first time on earth, not the first yautja on earth.
If you seen predator 2 then you would know the predators at the end in the ship are a couple thousand years old older then this predator so no this is a subspecies to the original one

What you should have said is the information you tried to tell me is in a movie was actually revealed in comic books. If you're going to try and correct someone in a condescending manner, at least get facts right.
That 'wendigo' theory is actually very on point and well incorporates the existence of the Predator as the real explanation for this Native American myth. Nice.
There’s a reason Prey is the top rated predator now based on critics and fan reaction~ they balanced him being overly powered, and it being a feral predator is a nice change as it’s thinner and less equipped. It would make sense that it has a tougher time than the Hunter predators~ tho my biggest complaint is the ending. It was too easy, and I highly doubt a helmet will lock onto its owner as he still had the wrist ban. The helmet used the predators projectile clearly meaning it was still linked to his wrist piece.
Besides that, amazing movie

I assume that the Predators look so different from each other because the species are a space-faring race and have set up colonies on various planets and evolved differently due to the local environment on said planet.

They’re more like Dogs, lots of different “breeds”. Their body types evolved to hunt specific enemies.
You'll never beat the first predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger matter of fact Danny Glover did a hell of a job in predator 2 I loved it as well

Got to say this wasn’t half bad. I don’t like the new design but I do like how they justified it. Also whis they went with more practical effects with the predator. It always looks better.
I kinda wish he wore more appropriate attire to the climate, Amazon was hot and LA had a heat wave which made sense for the Predators to be more stripped down. A Predator with more furs would have been a cool concept.
Definitely looks more badass than the original idk who in there right mind see that cool ass bone mask and be like “original more scary”

I wish all the Predator movies since the 1st one, including the Feral in Prey would retain a subtle design which seem to have been de-emphasized/ignored/missed. For the OG predator, the tips of the top 2 mandibles overlaps on the bottom 2 at an angle, and they tap on the bottom 2 to create the tapping/clicking sound which seems to be part of the Yautja's language (or at least a way of communication). The top & bottom mandibles of the Feral simply lay out vertical/parallel to each other, which do not suggest any tapping/clicking... maybe that's why they are "feral" since they are not well built for "communication". 😁
Right on! I just realized a few wks ago looking at the comics they even draw the Predator with the always agape mandibles. As long as they have the original roar and mandibles , I can live with the other bad ideas?!
@@robertcolson2233 Happy to know I'm not the only one. :) Yeah, I don't mind the variation in other facial features/head shape, as there are many sub-species, but the tapping of the mandibles seem to be an essential features which helps to explain the function of the mandibles, besides looking scary especially when they roar.

I love how this predator is not that strong and experience, this is the first movie in my opinion where humans can at least keep up with him.But how he doesn't have cannons where in AVP in ancient times they still have cannons.
I don't think this feral predator was the first predator to visit earth, in the movie, When Pred's spaceship slips into Earth's atmosphere, Naru mistakes it for a Thunderbird, a supernatural being featured prominently among the tribe as an omen to begin the kühtaamia, a rite of passage where she must hunt something that’s hunting her.. This entails that the "thunderbird" has been seen many times in the past, which means a predator ship has been seen entering the earth's atmosphere in the past and the hunts have been going on for centuries.
Her mistaking the Pred ship as a TB doesn’t mean other Natives have. That’s an assumption.
So all the supposed sightings of Thunderbirds count as verified Yautja ships? Hmm, not buying that logic.
I don’t know about your height estimate: the guy in the feral Predator suit, Dane DiLiergo, is 6ft 9in. So, I don’t think the feral predator is only 6’ 6” when the human in the suit is three inches taller.
And the suit would have had to added at least 3 inches with feet and head, making him at least 7 foot.
If that thing is 6'6" then the native population were all between 4'9" and 5'1. That predator was 7'6", maybe even closer to 8. It was heads up with a bear that was 8'

Yep - take a 6ft 9in guy, add the bulbous head and feral P probably caps out at 6’ 11” or 7ft even; classic ‘87 predator I would put around 7ft 5 or 6.
The Feral Predator is one of the best designs, hands down. Such a shame the story wasn't up to par.

Am I the only one that really hates the look of this Predator? As well as the new types from Predators and the Predator. The weird mandibles, mouth and eyes. What's wrong with the look of the original? It was badass and iconic. Why change it over and over in every film?

Really? Not downing on you, but I just thought it added a bunch to their lore of adding worthy species DNA to their own. Like, they looked way different, because they realized our sweet sweet DNA would help them be even more badass, as well as whatever dozens or hundreds of different badass species. In my opinion obviously, because the Predator, Predators, and now Prey, the series is great in keeping their back story insanely vague. We just pick up stuff from their movements, trophy's, and general respect to their hunt/culture.
@@finlay9616 A lot of people don’t like the idea of the Predator’s hole DNA splicing Schtick (including myself) They shouldn’t have to change their DNA since they are already Awsome hunters and their goal is to prove that they are already a superior race to most. They travel the galaxy looking for worthy prey for “them” to see just how far they can push their own limits. If they just keep upgrading themselves what would be the point? They would be playing on easy mode and that is not the Yautja way
@@finlay9616 The director already confirmed it's different apparence it's because Feral is from a different part of Yautja Prime, something similar to the Supers.
Some people mentioned this guy looks like a Super, I wouldn't be surprised if he is a Super or a mixed race, he for sure shares similar traits.

Although AVP isnt canon, the idea of Predators created the xenomorphs for a more challenging hunt is perfect.
the AVP lore and potential shared universe could've been so damn good. like MCU good. no joke. but the alien movies ruined it and predator 2018 ruined the whole damn thing. introducing the engineers and stripping the alien of it's classic look was not cool
I would say the Alien movies ruined the continuity and cannon more than the predator movies. sadly
I feel like the didn't create em but they probably stumbled along Xenomorphs and found out how to harvest em for hunting purposes over time. They knew they can't really contain em if they lose so they'll just self destruct or send in a cleanup crew like Wolf.

We don't talk about AVP, and this female lead was DEFINITELY better than the AVP main character. She for sure just froze to death after the Predators left her in Antarctica, without any way to contact help, or get home 😂😂😂 it's not that funny but it's like... Dark humor for me.. Just that even though she won, they just left her in the Antarctic tundra, again without a way home, or, more importantly, FOOD 😂

Yes this was a great movie it should of been a 10 !!! but Disney crapped on *Predator 2 and Predator 1718* . And *Raphael Adolini* is no longer a bad ass Italian Pirate 🏴☠️ and that means *Greyback & Mike Harrigan* from Predator 2 are retcon to not exist ... so they might not even be in the same Universe as the old 80s/90s movies to draw comparison .

And before all that it was the writers that thought of and created the Alien franchise and the Predator franchise. I love the idea of both the predator and Nara being on their first big hunt. Explains his gear. But at the beginning of the film Nara says “a long time ago a monster came” maybe talking in the future and the movie is the story ooooorrrr the predators have been there before

Only thing I didn’t like about Feral was the eyes, everything else was fantastic and a great variation of the Yautja.
I was hoping to finally get a female Yautja since the film was female led but perhaps that time will come later, he definitely made up for my hopes and made it onto my top Five Predators.
As long as they keep these creators who know what a Predator is supposed to be I have good hopes for the future Yautja.
I really dislike how complicated the super predators look, i think some of the old variations of the predator should have been the bases for the super predator subspecies of Yautja. distinct enough to be different but similar enough to be recognizable.

Looking back at the original predator with both his weapons and his behaviors, it seems that the Yautja visited Earth many times for millennia and they learned from these many adventures. I feel that the young Yautja visiting Earth didn’t get much of a sitrep or a scouting report. But as they saw or heard their companions not return from their hunts, they grew a wariness to visiting Earth. They knew we were a dangerous species and if they weren’t careful, we could at some point in our own technological advancements be equals to them. I think the original movie proves that point. In Prey the girl did a lot with a little but her tribesmen didn’t do nothing but they didn’t stand a chance. Dutch and his team had some pretty serious firepower for 87 and couldn’t do much. Can’t say if they were better hunters than the Comanches (and I personally don’t know what tribe Billy was from) but they clearly didn’t want their technology falling into their hands by 1987. They probably witnessed our nuclear capability and were all like “if you die or think you’ll die, you have to self destruct or return to the ship. No if, ands, or butts about it” lmao
I love the new design of the Yautja, and its own unique weaponry.
The feral predator was just a ruthless brutal killing machine that destroyed a bear with one shot. But then he faced a little girl that could barely kill a rabbit. I was expecting her to start suplexing him in the end.
Finally someone with some brain, I understand is a movie but no way you want me to watch and say ''yes disney princess, now try a armbar or take him, ground and pound him''. Imagine destroying that tribe best hunters, some french bear hunters, multiple dangerous animals and deadlift a bear after you punch the shit out of him, to get killed by some 100 pounds little disney princess.

Well, it's not like she charged the predator and wrestled him like the bear did. She outsmarted him, same as dutch. Plus the feral had fought a bear, a whole group of native American hunters, 20+ trappers and had sustained multiple injuries ranging from arrow and bullet wounds (some directly to the head), to traps to bear claws and teeth prior to fighting her. He was already fucked up pretty bad. She just happened to be what finally killed him.

So, that's why the predators take head or body of there dead comrades to examine it's brain, to know what was perfect nd not, take the DNA frm it's dead preys nd make something more updated

Some cool time periods for the predator to show:
-Rome: Battle of Teutoberg Forest (it was chaotic due to being an ambush by “barbarians,” so a predator would have the time of its life)
-Persia: Byzantine-Persian War (the losses were so great and exhausting that it allowed the Arab Muslims to sweep through later)
-Japan: Sengoku Jidai (nobody would even notice the massacre of a village or whatever during this time)
-China: Warring Period (so much death during the unification period that, just as the same with Sengoku Jidai, nobody would care too much about a slaughtered town)
-England: Invasion of the Great Heathen Army (Vikings and Predators? Yea.)
-Russia, maybe? Incursions into Siberia would be interesting.
-Spain, during the Reconquista? Or even during the colonial period of, say, Cuba or Mexico. Could include Aztecs even.

This predator was my least favorite - seemed way less honorable than the others. Example: when fighting Taabe and taking hits, the predator cloaked and killed him from behind. All other versions take off their gear and engage in uncloaked hand to hand combat. This one was too coward when the opponent could fight back.
They only do that when they find someone they believe to be worth actually fighting.

It could be because they didn't think that humans would actually put up a fight and therefore didn't fall under the honor code. It could be after Naru kills it that the Yautja include the humans as part of that
Well that's just your opinion, me personally my money's on feral predator, dude's a crazy tanky brawler on drugs, maybe a bit on the less honorable side but who really cares man, a tiger ain't gonna give you a timeout just cus you're sick, pregnant or unarmed it will use every ounce of its muscle to mauled you to death and that's how a predator should be.
We should not assume that the Predators are a mono-culture or a mono-race/ethnicity. Just like earth has different levels of tech across cultures/ethnicities/nationalities, so too could the Yautja. Also, I understand them to be very ritualistic so this may be a young Yautja out trying to earn his place in their society. Perhaps he has not yet earned the privilege of a plasmacaster . . . Anyway, I loved the movie and how it had a strong woman of colour as the lead. That it remained as true to an Indigenous culture is a wonderful thing!

The difference is, Disney's Predator was woke shit and the original was a masterpiece!!! People excepted Disney's Mulan Vs Predator, because they've given up hope of ever seeing a decent Predator film again in their lifetime. Predators 2010 was close, but it had its faults and Predator 2 can hang its head high for a really good sequel to the original!!!!

No human alive can take on a predator in hand to hand combat. They are WAY too strong. You have to trick it to kill it. Like Arnold did, like all the humans did that actually killed one.

The "Predator" Universe, or rather the Fox Dark Universe is pretty amazing and should be a full cinematic universe. The Predator franchise is pretty cross-referenced with the Blade Runner and the Alien franchises already. However, Fox has some really interesting Dark Sci-Fi Cinematic Universe concepts.
There is the Avatar, Abyss, Species, and also their old Space: Above and Beyond television series franchises. All of these can be craft fully harmonized into a dystopian future of humanity as we explore and expand across the Milky Way.
I would love to see a revival of Space: Above and Beyond cinematically. It would be great to see humanity send a message to the Yauja to "Cease and Desist Hunting Man" or find yourselves at war. Mankind starts hunting Yauja . . . FIRE.
