Do you still have you and Jan’s M3 pro/max models? I use my M3 pro and I really wanna see a real world comparison as far as CPU performance goes for programming and Xcode
Hey Andres, could you mention After Effects’ performance in terms of playback preview and rendering? Its requirements differ significantly from other benchmarks.
These videos have great color grading and audio along with complete reviews. Will you a do a review on the Asus rog zephyrus g14 2024 and maybe compare it to existing laptop inventory? With all the talk going on about it's heating issues, would love to see what you think about it and how it compares to a Macbook pro 14. Thanks!

Love this new format with Q&A and demos. Best review so far because it gives a feel of how the computer handles the work instead of dry numbers. Great job!
Big respect you compared with M1 Pro thank you dude, in my country MacBooks are supppppeeeer expensive so I'm still gonna keep my M1 Pro for a long time thank you for that great video!
I think I much prefer the display without the nanotexture. I'd rather have clear glare with a display that maintains the integrity of colours, rather than much less glare but with white washing the display to achieve it.
I really couldn't agree more with you. Nanotexture is really cool and all and I think its nice they offer it. Love that. They give us the choice. However, been living with these displays for so long that its never bothered most of us so... were good
Honestly the best video on the new M4 MacBook Pros! Production quality was amazing even when the laptops haven’t even been out for a week yet. Bought an M4 Pro MacBook Pro 16” with 48 GB RAM and this video helped me feel a lot better about my decision. Coming from a base M1 iMac, I’m really excited for it to come in and start speeding up my video editing and streaming workflow as I get started on my channel. Great video!
This is a thorough and thoughtful review. I don’t usually comment on reviews but felt you did such a good job. Love the touch of asking for user input at the start of recording and getting to it later in the video.
I just purchased my base model 14-inch Macbook Pro M4. Unfortunately, here in Germany, it was very difficult to get hands on Macs with the new nanotexture display. At first, I regretted getting the standard display. However, after playing for a while with a display unit at the Apple Store, I noticed that this feature may be useful only to those people who primarly use their laptop screen for basic work that does not require realistic colour rendering. Editing photos, colourgrading videos or even watching high-resolution movies on the nanotexture display resembles the effect I got while using an iPad with a Paperlike screen protector. It looks nice, feels nice but may annoy you after a while, especially after noticing the difference in contract between your laptop and, for instance, the iPhone (after Airdropping the supposedly ready files). Just my loose thoughts after a few hours of using the M4 Macbook Pro. Keep up the great work!
Thanks man, this comment helped me out! I just purchased the M4 Pro with glossy screen. I'm a coder, and I work a lot in cafes. Although I don't usually receive the light straight to the screen, I was considering the nano texture one. But because I would also use the laptop for editing the videos from my action camera, then I think I'd stick to the glossy screen. I hope I don't regret it :)
Finally!!! a review of everyday life from actual user experience. I just came across your channel and I must say, this is next level content. Thank you, Keep it up!
The difference in the charging may be due to charging curves, usually above 80% the rate slows down to help with battery longevity. So the 96W hour may be more useful if you are topping off quickly from say 30-80%, but for a full charge the time difference will be much less noticeable.
The only reason to even consider the MB pro over the air is the display difference since its something you actually notice even with simple tasks.... the other differences are irrelevant for most people
I mean ports and sustained performance matter to a good chunk of people, most people should get the air but there are a lot of good reasons to get the pro. Also the pros have pretty good value compared to the airs, at least until the new airs release
Was debating upgrading my 14” M1 Pro because it still feels perfectly fast for development. M4 seems like the first meaningful improvement. Glad I watched this video, I’ll keep my M1 Pro for now, thanks!
Thank you for the heavy load test, it's really helpful! I'm going to buy a MBP later this month and I had trouble deciding between the M4 with 32GB of RAM and M4 Pro with 24GB, as they cost the same in the configuration I want (I don't have a budget for the 48GB upgrade). I've seen benchmarks of the CPUs in other places, which made me lean towards M4 Pro, but I was worried about the memory. Seeing how it behaves under such a ridiculous load sealed the deal for me and I will go with M4 Pro.
Andres, another great video and I appreciate your honesty! I still have the 14” M1 Pro (8 core CPU and 512GB) and I was even considering upgrading to the M3 Macbook Air for more portability (but thought about the specs that my Pro has that the Air doesn’t), but I am going to hold off on upgrading to any of the newer Macbooks especially after watching today’s video. Thank you and have a great week!
First video of yours I have stumbled across and it's the best M4 video I have seen, incredibly informative and no slouching on the production . . . subscribed.
I have a MacBook Pro i9 with 1TB of storage and 16GB RAM that I've used on the road for the last 5 years. I recently replaced it in favor of an M4 Ipad Pro 13" with 1TB of storage. Works great and does everything I need on the road! Loving it. My M4 Mac Mini is coming in early December.
Great video! You’re one of the few that focuses on the measures and factors that matter, rather than diving deep into synthetic benchmarks. Thank you. Liked and subbed!
I picked up a pristine M1 Pro from a refurb site for 1300 bucks, I got lucky. And i was still satisfied with the MBP 15" from Mid 2015. But two keys of the 2015 model gave way and repair was a bit unreasonable. I am very impressed so far. 30 temperature probes at least, holy hell. I see it still has 200 MB/s memory bandwidth and I just downloaded a 400 MB file and expanded it to 6 GB in the blink of an eye. Sound is amazing, display as well - but I would not pay the little incremental difference to a M4 with more than 800 bucks. For my uses the M1 Pro with 16 GB Ram and 1 TB SSD is way more than just good enough.
I some how found your video and may I say...Your posture, reviews, and just the way you shoot your content is fresh and rewarding. Thank you! New subscriber going forward!
A question for the lucky owners of the MacBook Pro 14" M4Pro. When working in real life in downloaded video projects, for example, in Premier Pro or when working in a relatively loaded Ableton Live project, how do fans behave? How much can you hear them? Does the noise interfere with work? For example, my MacBook Pro 16" M1Pro, even in the most loaded projects, the fans are barely audible, the real audible noise begins to appear only during renderings when there is a continuous calculation, but even then it is difficult to call noise, you can say a slight hissing. For me, the issue with noise is very significant, so the comments of real users are very interesting.
A great and down to Earth comparison. I really love these sorts of videos, it makes me feel more grateful for the things I have :) (M1 pro user tehehehe)
Nano texture is not as extreme as it seems in videos since nobody is working under heavy studio lights or light boxes. Though nice I have to say I retuned my nano as it diminishes the screen quality and makes certain lighting being displayed show strange things I just dont like. I much prefer the glossy display. Side note the display response time is MUCH improved this go around and addition of the quantum dot layer is a noticeable change for the better as well. All the M4 lineup this year is so so good. Cheers
I currently dont have a laptop. Should I buy a Macbook Pro or a Windows Laptop with the ryzen ai 9 hx 370? It´s mainly for school because i am in 10th grade. In Germany you go to school for 13 years and then you still have 3 to 5 years of study. I dont know if I should buy now or wait. I already have an ipad.
Maybe for the power brick, see how much it charges up in 30 mins instead. I believe it slows down charging after it hits 80% to preserve battery health and overheating.
If you are not getting the nano texture or do not have it on a previous model. you can get the privacy screen sold by apple and it has a matte screen on one side of it.
How do you feel about the nano texture display? Do you have any doubts about sticking to it, or is it a certain thing you will take it over the regular glossy one?
I have never used a Macbook but now thinking of getting one for photo/video editing. What would you recommend: 1. A refurbished 14-inch Macbook Pro with M1 Max with 2TB SSD, 64 GB Memory and 32 GB GPU for £1800 2. A new 14-inch Macbook Pro with M4 Pro with 1TB SSD, 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine for £2100
I have been looking into the optimal windows laptop for doing my data science and ML work, but can also do some gaming for like 6months now and I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing that can compare with the MacBook Pro. I wanted to build a desktop PC but after the launch of the RTX 50 series, and complete lack of availability, as well as the frustration of ordering individual parts, putting them together etc, that getting myself an M4 Pro MacBook Pro is the best and simplest option. I do wish the M4 Pro had an option for 36GB RAM upgrade because $360 for 48GB of RAM is a lot of money for that upgrade. I do think the binned 12 core cpu, 16 core gpu is almost identical in terms of performance, so instead of paying for the unbinned spec bump, going for the double RAM is a better option.
The display without nano texture looks so much more vibrant and seems to show much better blacks. How would you personally judge the nano texture? Would you say it has advantages? (without regarding the price!)

But the disadvantage is easy scratched
The nano texture is really impressive but what I don't like about it is the lack of deep blacks like on the regular models..

4:27 black look grey on nano texture display right?? seems like the studio lights hiting
It's just what matte displays do, you lose colour, blacks and sharpness for less glare
For charging just turn off optimized charging cuz it slows down the charging once it hits 80-100%
Every time he says “longetivity” 😊
