Thanks for the upload. I am repairing a neglected e30 which I got from my dad for my senior project. I replaced the timing belt and water pump recently and this morning I was adjusting the valves and I noticed one of the tips of the head bolts was snapped. I am probably going to need to replace the head bolts thanks for sharing!
Recently my timing belt on my E30 325i broke and I found that one of my intake rocker arm broke. Can these be replaced individually and re-inserted onto the pivot bar by removing the bar from the front side after removing the head bolts. I will be running a leak down test before reinstalling to see if any other issues need to be fixed or removal of the head (costly!!!).
i just want to say i really enjoy your diy video's and you obviously have quiet a passion for the e30 just like myself! also i highly approve of the music in this tutorial! noting worse than modern music that doesent really work with a vintage car video period stuff is so much more enjoyable! im also curious does your 13 button obc always stay on like mine? i fitted a partial kit that i got from a crashed 320i se in new zealand to my 325i here in ireland but im missing the stalk gong and second part of the loom i wonder is this why its always on?
Thank you so much for this Video! I got a 1987 BMW 325i Convertible with the E20 Engine and was very concerned about the head bolts! My main goal in viewing your video was how to replace the Valve Cover Gasket and all that involves and I didn't realize that there are four (4) Rubber Rocker Shaft Plugs! I will purchase them before starting the job. Additionally, after viewing your video, I rushed to the garage and looked inside the Oil Cap hole and verified that the Engine had been retrofitted with the new style bolts! What a relief. Again thank you so much for your Video work!
i live in northern california temperatures range from 25 - 75 degrees fahrenheit in the winter. In the summer they range from 75-100 degrees fahrenheit. Winter time has just started.
Great to see people busy with e30's but please don't undo headbolts with an impactwrench especially when the engine is hot. Thats' looking for trouble! It needs to sit overnight so it's stone cold to relieve any tensions in the block. That's with any work on an engine. Also always have the Bentley and/or Haynes manual handy when you work on your car ;-) Everything you need to know is in there. Do like your vids though but watch out for the critical points! Anyway.. keep it up mate! Cheers.
I think ur mistaken sir about the way u torque it u have to go through the cycle three times though all fhe bolts. this allows for more even pressure and helps seal it
I am a little confused as to why you are recommending the SPARK PLUG that you mentioned in this Video? I purchased the BOSCH Platinum +4, part number BOSCH 4478. The Bosch Platinum+4 spark plug features unique revolutionary firing technology that combines the advantages of surface air gap technology, 4 nickel-yttrium ground electrodes and a heat-fused center electrode with pure platinum to provide optimum engine performance, smoother acceleration and top fuel efficiency. These are exactly the ones I found the car with when I purchased it about one (1) year ago and have been doing very well with very good acceleration. I am just curious where you saw or most importantly who has said that the Platinum plugs are a NO NO?
E30Source Good videos! I'll be looking forward to the shifter bushing one since I've been wanting to do the same to my E30, maybe installing a z3 shifter too.
Actually the original Hex design bolts were final torqued at operating temp which is probably why they had issues with them later in their life. mine have the hex and I blew my head gasket so everything is coming ouyt and the new head style bolts going in.@@E30Source

Where are the cylinder head bolts online? I know the site but it doesn't let you buy them. Do you know somewhere online where i can get some?
great choice in music.

Did you have any problems with those shaft plugs leaking after the replacement? I've heard bad things about VR
I haven't had any problems.
Can you help me out with the part number to the head bolts ? Please and thankyou
could you send me a link to where you purchased the spark plugs?
How did you like the Bosch Super Plus spark plugs? Do they come pre-gapped?
***** They are excellent, and they come pre gapped.
E30Source Nice. So just throw them in and I'm good?
Yep
Thanks
No problem!
Awesome video, Thank you so much for sharing! :)
sacha constance No problem! Enjoy!
I purchased some bosch plugs and cant get my plug wires to connect to the new plugs. Any ideas? Plugs are Bosch Platinum plugs
+Leon Romero The screw on "caps" are on the plugs. Remove them to expose the threads at the top of the plug. Then your wires will fit on the plugs.
what engine oil do you use i just bought a 1989 325is and i am going to change the oil what would you recomend
What climate are you typically driving in?
i live in northern california temperatures range from 25 - 75 degrees fahrenheit in the winter. In the summer they range from 75-100 degrees fahrenheit. Winter time has just started.
10W-40 for cold weather (like less than 50F)
20W-50 for warm weather (above 50F)
I like the Bosch Oil Filter. Like $7 from Autozone
E30Source perfect! thanks man really enjoy your videos
No prob!

Does that BMW realise how lucky it is to have you as its owner? A nice warm garage, all of the tools etc.
Haha. I take care of her.
Stay tuned!
Where do you buy your part from?
Why do you have to take off the caps on the Bosch super plus plugs?
it wont connect with the older model
I think ur mistaken sir about the way u torque it u have to go through the cycle three times though all fhe bolts. this allows for more even pressure and helps seal it

Keep the video's comeing man.
Absolutely. I'll be doing a shifter bushing video and fixing shifter slop.
Stay Tuned!
E30Source Good videos! I'll be looking forward to the shifter bushing one since I've been wanting to do the same to my E30, maybe installing a z3 shifter too.
I'm installing a short shifter, Not sure what kind, but it shortens the shift by 25%.
I wish you would do a video on removal and installing new fuel injectors. Thanks!!
by the way, do you know anywhere that would help me with the electrical stuff? my little monitor that says the time/mpg doesn't work /:
you probably have to replace the led. Im pretty sure he made a video

Never do ANY headwork on ANY engine when the motor is hot!!! you can warp the head!!!
I completely forgot to mention that. I let my engine cool when I did this though.
