You're channel has been indispensable in my songwriting and recording. Seriously -- to the point, clear, and most-importantly -- heavy AF.
Thanks! Glad I can help 💪
Looking forward to that mixing tutorial sometime in the future 👍🏽👍🏽
I dont think hes ready for that. Can barely hear the guitar in this video.
@@serfillustrated4018his music on spotify sounds good
Now this is super useful. One thing I have found in my musical journey is knowing how to shred, learning new techniques and practicing riffs is nothing if you don't know how to write a song.
Would love to see you do a video on the Orange Super Crush 100. Seeing you dialling in a solid state would be cool.
@@matthewdrysdale260 I think I have one! 🤔it’s been a LONG time, but I definitely made a video with one at some point
Man, 20:24 hit so hard. I'm still new to all this, just got a 2i2, Reaper and EZ Drummer 3, your videos have been super helpful. Thank you for making this content.
@@FattyTwoCool my pleasure dude! 💪
Prety cool seeing it done by writing a bunch of riffs then putting it together.
Being a hip hip producer for years I always find these sorta videos for other genres way more interesting. Metal drums are always so crazy haha
For me, that's the biggest part of metal music....how well the drum parts are thought out and played.
You can have a very simple sounding guitar riff, and depending on how the drums are played, you can have a super intense part.
@@bindodundid that’s awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
@@ericwilliams538 yeah totally, without those drums the intensity isn't there. I've recorded plenty of distorted or fuzzed out guitar and it never really sounds like metal because its on more basic grooves. Drums are like 50% of the vibe of a song.
I really think that you have create your own guitar tone, and also your proper song mix tone, that is a great satisfying thing in my opinion
Omg, I love you so much for this
yo you should do a mixing tutorial id love to see ur process.
Hell yeah. Thanks for the help dude. Love toontrack as well. 🤘🤘🤘
BTW those random sounds are amazing. I gotta get that one.
I work in a similar way but your method is way more streamlined with the premade midi, allowing you to audition beats easliy. I either punch in beats from scratch or steal beats from older sessions and tweak them. One suggestion to help tie in your synth intro would be a subtle Riser sample, like a reverse crash or whoosh
Yes, very helpful! I'm begging to not get so overwhelmed with these types of videos. With just so many options, with guitar and drums alone, my head used to feel like it was going to explode!!!
@@ericwilliams538 I’m planning on putting together narrower but deeper videos in a course for this by the end of the year. I feel like the YT game is as much info as you can cram into 20 min, but personally think something without hyper editing that you can follow along with would be more valuable to people. Thats how I learned how to mix! (Shoutout to Eyal Levi’s mixing course 🥳)
@@TaylorDanley awesome, I also meant to say beginning to not get so overwhelmed, not begging.....so hopefully you were able to figure that out!!😂😂😂
Thank you bro! Love this content. I always get stuck on transitions between parts, going from a chorus back to verse.
Yeah, me too! I'm trying to put all this together in a process that actually helps me write, so if it helps other people also it's a win/win!
Brotato what bass have you got for tracking? Would be good to see your approach to getting a good and consistent bass performance
@@DavChops a super cheap squier jazz bass. It’s sick and was such a good buy for recording bass.
Hey Taylor, thank you for these lessons. Helped me a lot getting into home/room recording. You and shootie school opened a new world for me, by the way what is the name of the midi keyboard you used in the vid to help out with EZK? Thanks a lot.
One thing about Reaper you could have used instead of the automation. You can apply plugins to individual clips so you could have done the EQ trick this way without using an envelope. Though I'm not sure what version you're using. I'm on version 7.
you always inspire me to write taylor everytime lol
Hell yeah 💪
@@TaylorDanley love all your vids tho brotha
Just came here to appreciate few sick riffs!
@@marshanimal5436 💪💪💪
21:35 imo the best riff was left out. not saying there's bad ones here, but man i was waiting the whole video for that riff :D
@@minekettu sometimes the best riffs don’t fit, and you just need to make them their own songs 😂
Not my thing but cool tutorial dude!
ayyy a good lesson, idk why im watching cuz i don't write death merda stuff but oh well
@@feduwtc thanks for being here champ 💪
I’m new to editing in a DAW & still trying to figure out how to add drums at all 😅
@@sweatyspookz from superior drummer it’s just drag and drop. If you want a NEW midi region (that you can edit manually) you use the pencil tool in reaper to draw it in (I believe the hot key is CTRL)
Do you record two guitar tracks or just copy and paste one track?
@@antona.1327 two tracks, copying and pasting will just make it louder
JUDGEMENT DAY IS COMING WARN ALL OF YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Happy little accident by Taylor "Bob Ross" Danley
I AM THE DEATH METAL BOB ROSS OMG 😳 😂
@@TaylorDanley 😂. Damn good video honestly. I have been wanting to record my first song and this has helped a lot man. Thanks
I want to do this in the opposite order. Turn songs into death metal riffs. 🥹 but seriously I think this is the most important thing in the whole scene. Rather than people who want to argue the minutiae of gear, we need to write more songs and put out listenable bangers.
DO IT CHAMP. And yes, that is 100% true... unless you just really like collecting stuff, that's cool too.
@@TaylorDanley oh it’s all cool for sure. I think for me I feel guilty I don’t write more. Gotta make more riffs later I think.
Wall of drums. Hard to hear guitars
Headphones? Sounds pretty balanced on my end.
I have the same problem with a lot of current day metal. It seems like a lot of people are making drums the most present instrument in the mix to a very extreme degree
Why no drummer with 3 arms? LOL 😅
WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY
@@TaylorDanley I gotta admit you're absolutely right.
Good music takes time, no sense in making a "quick" death metal song. Just play grind if you wanna turn your brain off.

It’s not a vicious circle if you enjoy it, right? 🤪
Hey if it gets you in the mood to create some killer music, it's a win!
