Daws Butler was Mel Blanc without the giant WB paycheck. I hope he is remembered as long as Mr. Blanc and as fondly. He certainly earned it.

More so for me, while Blanc probably DID other work, he was mostly the "Looney Tunes" guy, and those were always just kind of a background thing for me. I was a lot more eighties and nineties, Hannah Barbera revival and other random specials and stuff that all tended to use him and his related talent pool.

To quote the late and great comedian JACK BENNY...." there's only ten people living in Los Angeles. Everybody else is MEL BLANC"!
THAT LINE can also be said for almost all of our Cartoon memories. Think, between Mel, Daws Butler. Don.Messick, Paul Frees, June Foray, Janet Waldo, et al, and you're at a loss to include anybody else.
Let's give credit to the likes of Walter Tetley (late of Radio's GREAT GILDERSLEEVE, as the young Leroy, but generations from the 50s to today know his as Peabody's boy, SHERMAN.
Mel did not do all of WB's cartoon voices, but under the demands of his contract, all credits for the multiple voices were given to him. One man does stand out (and bears a strong resemblance to the character he voices, as the sappy shmoo in almost all of Bug's memorable comic jaunts. Actor Robert Q Lewis was the voice (and model) for Elmer Fudd.
You know actress Penny Singleton from radio, movies and the small screen as print cartoonist Chick Young's iconic Blondie, but she's famous also voicing 1962's sunday night primetime foray into the future, as Jane Jetson!
Must, pause, reality is calling me...will return with more banter!

I just remembered KENNY DELMAR, whose voice you'd recognize from dozens of cartoons (GAMMA production characters from Rocky & Bullwinkle shows). Toss in Hans Conried, Pail Frees, Arnold Stang and a slew of talented radio veterans, who like Mel worked a variety of radio shows (such as Fred Reed, who, long before Hanna-Barbara made him a household name, contributed to radio's Fred Allen show, with Delmar (who was a regular, with June Foray and Daws Butler, on CBS radio's Stan Frreberg show).

Although some of us Gen X like myself watched the reruns of those cartoons.
There was a local tv station where I live that used to air a lot of the old Hanna-Barbera
cartoons in the 80's and early 90's so I watched them a lot when I was a kid. Laff-a-Lympics
was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid along with Scooby-Doo and several others.
I didn't grow up with cable but whenever I visited my aunt I used to watch some of the
Hanna-Barbera cartoons that aired on the USA Cartoon Express. There were a lot of Millennials
who watched Boomerang so some of the younger generations watched the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

Don't overlook another H-B voiceover great John Stephenson, who, in my own unbiased personal opinion, (don't mean to rankle some ankles out there) had a WIDE range of versatility, be it down-to-earth, quirky, offbeat, or dignified, during his tenure at Hanna-Barbera. Some of his VO roles that I think he should be noted for are:
      •Mr. Slate (Flintstones, 1960-66)
•Various characters on the 1981 No Man Valley's cartoon special, from Lee Mendelson Productions, about the plight of the California condor and other endangered species
      •Sheriff Bagley (Clue Club, 1976-78)
      •John Arable (Charlotte's Web, 1973)
•Fariik the Sorcerer (the Arabian Knights segment of the Banana Splits, 1968-70)
•Various characters, Mr. Sims, Dr. Jekyll, Al Oakley, and so on (Scooby-Doo, 1968-????)
•Various characters, Count Dracula, Prince Charming, the "Yes Dearrrr!" husband and so on (Hanna-Barbera's New Tom & Jerry, 1975-78)
•Various characters on Dynomutt, Dog Wonder and Jabberjaw (1976-78) Can't identify them all.
And there you have it, straight from me. Everything else John, God rest his soul, had done such as Galaxy High and the Puppy's Greatest Adventures, was-- I'm sorry -- was either pure schlock or they didn't use too much of him. Still one of my all-time H-B favorites anyways :-)

Yes, I know, most sources claim Daws was always Dum (not literally, of course), and yes, he did played the character later on. Daws was definitely Dum on Laff-a-Lympics. @@nealbradleigh5069 No, Alfie Gator was a different character who was always trying to eat Yakky Doodle. Supposedly Alfie Gator was based on Alfred Hitchcock. (But he doesn't sound anything like Hitchcock.) There are reviews of all 4 Yakky Doodle cartoons that Alfie Gator was in on a blog called Yowp: Stuff About Early Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. I posted a link to these reviews but TH-cam deleted it. Twice. If you can find this blog, scroll down until you see "Post Topics" on the right side of the screen, then click on "Alfie Gator (4)".

Dear Saturday Morning Rewind.... I really, really like this terrific video featuring characters voiced by Daws Butler, however... I have a request for this video to be potentially updated, as I notice that Daws Butler also voiced lambsy lamb from the 'it's the wolf' segment (and other characters) of the cattanooga cats, as well as hustle from the CB Bears including that of undercover elephant, let alone one-tome character tennessee tabby from an episode of the punkin puss & mush mouse segment of the magilla gorilla show... so I was wondering if you'd consider updating brilliant video with clips from the shows included please ? only asked!.
10 out of 10 for this video by the way.
