I wouldn't describe Howard "flipping". He's been consistent with his actions and for a lawyer, he is an incredibly stand up guy. It's more like both him and especially the audience has been given a broader perspective.
Well, he has "flipped" in the sense that most of season 1 makes you believe that he's a douche actively keeping Jimmy down. It only becomes apparent, like you say, in the broader context, that he is only the messenger, so to speak. But yeah, Howard is awesome.
Kim Wexler quickly becomes one of my favorite characters in the BrBd universe, and Rhea Seahorn is absolute perfection in the role
She is my favorite female character in any TV series.
By season 4 it finally set in that she was one of my favorite characters

@@jaives She's consistently great but I don't think she's had one particular stand out moment that you can point to as "the absolute best" and that's what Emmies tend to go for.
i love kim’s character and the development she goes through during the series. while this is very much a different show, this series is still about these characters “breaking bad”. we never saw mike or saul break bad in the original series, and this is their journey down. i love it.
Yeah, I hope they see the third story building here. Really all the cast, outside of Jimmy and Mike. Kim's really is something, tho.

Howard is presented as the typical corporate, PR salesman, douche so there's immediate bias again him within the second you're introduced to the character. This show does an amazing job at subverting expectations.

Kim doesn't necessarily have a problem with the ethics of what Jimmy did. When it turned to being illegal, then she had a problem with it. Which is an interesting character dynamic in the scheme of this show.
which I find confusing. Lying to the police, especially in this episode, is obstruction of justice, which is a crime. So fabricating a cream pie video isn't a case where the lie is legal and the video illegal. Both the lie and the video are illegal.
@@AO-bl7cc yeah that part is a little confusing. Maybe she really wanted to go along with it and was forcing herself to almost act as if this was just another slippin Jimmy scam. But when he brought up fabricating evidence she had no choice but to come back to earth and say she wanted nothing to do with it. Thus showcasing the internal struggle she always has between ethics and the law. Really wanting to act bad but ultimately giving in to what the law dictates.
@@AO-bl7cc the lie isnt necessarily illegal. lawyers are allowed to lie in their clients defence up to an extent assuming they aren't under oath.
@@SorchaSublime yeah its a very shaky area because if the cops were already investigating Daniel as a possible suspected drug dealer, then Saul is committing a crime of obstruction because he's deliberately leading the cops away from Daniel's criminal activity. Maybe Saul legit doesn't know that, so maybe that's why Kim was sort of okay with the lie?
BCS is a great story in its own right but seeing all the wee, familiar elements of BB starting to come together add another layer which makes this such compelling viewing
The fact that Chuck's actor actually learned to play the piano for that opening says a ton about the dedication people have to this universe.
He does have some music in his background. He played David St. Hubbins in the band and movie, Spinal Tap!

he always calls him charlie hustle in a complimentary way
"Charlie Hustle" was the nickname given to Pete Rose by the HOF pitcher Whitey Ford as a compliment to Pete Rose's hustle, determination, and work ethic. It's definitely a compliment.

One thing that's been clearly shown is that Jimmy may be shady, he's an incredibly hard worker. Hell, the shear amount of work Jimmy put in to his feud with Howard was awe inspiring. Going directly from the mailroom to full fledge lawyer (no time as a paralegal or legal assistant) is a massive achievement, especially doing it without anyone knowing.

Breaking the rules is fun. That switch is jimmy. People saying don’t touch him because he’s a known quantity. hence the note. Jimmy is a switch. He’s easily manipulated by others. Kim and Chuck could control him and he needs it. Jimmy is a known quantity who “can’t help himself.” He’s just a switch that was left on when it shouldn’t have

Daniel Wormald is the Danny that Saul refers to several times in BB. When he's trying to convince Walt to buy the laser tag place, he says it all works because the place has a Danny. Skyler says she'll be the Danny of the car wash. Then is S5 when Saul is showing them places to cook, he mentions Danny is running an arcade(?) I think it was and had a place for them set up behind something or rather.

Soooo much packed into this one episode. Watch it twice if u have to cuz there is so much ground being laid it’s amazing. Even the little things that seem like nothing. And Chuck could not be portrayed better than Michael McLean does. Just as amazing douche
I got a great laugh at the stolen baseball cards thing. Its too bad the show has a timeline, cause the only thing that would make it funnier is if they broke in and stole the guy's Pokemon cards.
This show is slow, but absolutely amazing story telling, everything feels realistic and grounded

Better Call Saul is a better show than Breaking Bad. And I LOVE Breaking Bad.
I’m so glad there’s others that love BCS more than BB. I remember the day I came home from school to watch the first episode and would never have thought this show would end up being better.
I 100% agree with this assessment. the writing is just so tight, which is difficult to do for a prequel when you're playing within such finite parameters. and don't get me started on the acting. the fact that Rhea Seehorn has never won or even been nominated for an Emmy due to her role in this show is a crime against humanity.

I don't think she is jealous at all, but she wants a relationship with a lawyer. She likes the part of him that is the con but for her she wants him to be successfull and a straight boyfriend. She has been his rock but since she's not in Breaking Bad he is going to lose her. He obviously is going to lose the good job.

I agree season 2 is my least favorite in the whole universe. A lot of episodes are just middling.
