I never noticed how Chuck's space blanket and mylar lined suit are a kind of inverse to the Saul Goodman suit. One is unabashedly flamboyant and acts like a kind of armor for Jimmy's feelings and with the other, and the flashy part "protects" Chuck, but its meant to be hidden and is seen as shameful when brought out in public
And the fact that Jimmy the one who made that suit for Chuck. That show is deeper than Mariana Trench
Mike's line about doing everything he can for his family hits differently knowing that everything he worked for was confiscated by the DEA before he was unceremoniously murdered by Walter.
I hate walt
Out of all the major characters in the Breaking Bad universe, Mike definitely had the worst ending. Died in vain, couldn't get money to his family and didn't even get to say goodbye to his granddaughter. The money that Jesse sends to Kaylee in El Camino is probably not even close to what Mike had saved up.

Fun fact: the exotic car garage you see at the start with the twins has a blue car with white stripes if you notice. That’s a real life replica of the famous car “Banshee” from the GTA Series.

I love how the presence of Chuck is constant in the show through props, cinematography, and dialogue. Even if they never mention his name, his presence is felt in what is a masterclass of "show, don't tell".
I like how they used two different glow stick colors. Mike uses green (breaking bad colors), while Jimmy uses yellow (BCS colors). You could see that as Mike is fully committed and he already crossed that line, he's basically the same character he was in BrBa timeline, while Jimmy is still in the "BCS timeline", he stil didn't fully committed to being Saul Goodman we know

This is probably my favorite episode of the show. So good. This is a Pine Barrens situation where two characters are stuck in the middle of nowhere trying to find their way out and self reflecting.
Single British pounds _are_ coins, there haven't been £1 notes for a long time.
Yeah Americans say a lot of things about Britain with certainty and yeah we have one pound and 2 pound coins then 5 pound 10 pound 20 pound and 50 pounds are all notes

@@DovahFett i was actually commenting on a factual statement about British notes being incorrect not a generalized statement and you can say the bit about Americans saying things about Britain with certainty is generalised (though I thought it was clearly hyperbole) and i can even agree with that to an extent but i definitely havent said anything uninformed there other than my opinion and then literal facts
Eric joking about Jawas made me think about Johnathan Banks in Star Wars as an officer under Space Gus. I unironically want that now. I don't care if it's on-the-nose.
One of my favorite episodes, Vince Gilligan returns as director and gives another excellent episode of BCS in the flavour of BB. Everything in this episode is just perfect.
People tend to point to the moments where Jimmy becomes Saul, and there isn't one single moment. But it sure is interesting seeing how, when hes about to be killed he starts shouting Abugado(lawyer) but then switches to "friend of the cartel". And with the space blanket also. Jimmy denies it because it reminds him of chuck and he doesnt wanna be wrapped in chuck's shadow, but to Saul it doesn't mean much in relation to chuck. For him its a flashy shiny armor to be used for his success. I love reading into stuff with this show, best written show ever imo
This is in my top 5 of Better Call Saul episodes. All-time classic episode.
The last scene makes me tear up every time, there are so many layers to it. From Jimmy’s recklessness for a quick buck, stepping on the space blanket, Chuck’s theme played with the instrumentation of Heisenberg’s theme…. I just love it.
The Producers of BB and BCS have always put great care and emphasis on colours. The green in yellow was definitely a purposeful metaphor.
Next episode is 10/10

Rick was very on the money to say that word of the gunfight would get back to Lalo. I won't say how, but Lalo himself is so cunning that he can just tell when something is up. He figures it out

This is probably the 2nd best 3 episode stretch if not these best 3 episode stretch of the entire show so good
Walt’s motivation was never really his family, even from the start. If it was really about his family, he would have accepted Gretchen and Elliot’s money and/or job offer. His ego was driving him for the entirety of Breaking Bad. HE had to be the earner, HE had to be the big deal. That’s what his “I did it for me” in the last episode was about. He just used providing for his family as a deeply internalized excuse so that he could feel like a badass, without accepting responsibility for the fact that by doing so he was risking putting his family in danger.
Mike is more genuine, and if anything is in stark contrast to Walt. Mike isn’t doing this stuff out of an ego trip. He’s genuinely doing it for his family, unlike Walt.
If Mike was a genuine guy, then he should have went on a different path of “providing” for his family. The same path that got his son killed so clearly he’s not that much different from Walt when he also put his own family at risk when messing with the Salamanca’s or joining Gus.
And what you have here is one the best episodes of the show alongside Chicanery and Plan and Execution

Imo the best singular episode. Season 6 is the best season but as one episode this has gotta be the best
I. Love. This. Episode. Easily my favorite in the whole series, the imagery, symbolism, acting, characterization, all of it is so well done and has so many little details that make it really great on rewatch. Even the tension for a prequel is all so well done, that whole last scene with Jimmy on the road and Mike with the gun had me so invested, to the point I had to remind myself 'oh wait, it's a prequel they'll be fine'. That's the sign of great television right there.
Definitely the 'Pine Barrens' of this series.

Oh boy one of the best episodes of Better Call Saul and easily the most Breaking bad like episode in terms of tension, action, and cinematography, but the craziest thing is this might not even be a top 5 episode in this show. Let alone the best episode in the season. You guys better buckle up cause the series just gets crazier from here on out. Also I like to call this The Pine Barrens of this show. Since it is very similar to that episode from Soprano's. Just a simple job going very wrong.
Also next episode pretty much sets up the beginning of the end of the series and is easily one of best hours of television ever and my 2md favorite behind "Plan and Execution". Gonna be brutal waiting a full week for "Bad Choice Road".

Concerning the mylar blanket, I saw it as Jimmy rejecting the notion of being helped by something that acted as a stand-in for his brother. It's interesting, though, that, in the end, the blanket plays a big part in saving them. It's as if Chuck intervened from the afterlife to help his brother stay alive. ;) Cool stuff.
This is one of the best episodes taking place in this universe (it was directed by Gilligan). There's a lot of fun behind-the-scenes stories about the filming of the episode. You guys should look into it on your own personal time!
It's quite a reach with the afterlife stuff. I always seen it as Jimmy trying to do everything he can not to think about Chuck, that includes avoiding the blanket

The color green in BB represented Walt's transformation into Heisenberg. It's the most prominent color he wears. Green represents greed, eveny, and money. Yellow represents anyone associated with the meth business. Walt has a light yellow shirt when he kills Krazy 8, and does it with a yellow bag. The plate is yellow. The hazmat suits are yellow. So I think here, Mike wearing the green represents his greed and desire to make sure his family is financially taken care of while out in the desert protecting literal bags of cash. It's the first time in the show where we see Mike transform and straight up murder dudes to protect Gus' interests.
The yellow represents Jimmy further transforming into Saul. He even drinks his own yellow pee to survive. This path eventually leads him into the drug business. It's foreshadowing his interaction with Jesse and Walt in the desert where he solidifies his dealings in the meth business.
I don't know why Jimmy's first thought wasn't to hire Mike to come with him... I know Mike saves him and all, but Mike would have had valuable insight and could have helped Jimmy get it all done.
Pee would actually make you thirstier and it is not a good way to hydrate.

I think the point of the Mylar is not necessary any elaborate symbolism. I think it's more about Jimmy being stuck in the desert with nothing to distract himself with, he just had a near-death experience and the Mylar is reminding him of Chuck. I think he is forced to think about Chuck and his death and he can't just pretend it never happened like he was stubbornly doing until now. Maybe it will lead to some internal change in him.
