Once some place becomes instagram famous you get a few new people like the first group but often a lot of others who care about themselves only and showing others their "experience". They don't often have the same respect because it doesn't mean as much to them.

That was the 'gateway drug' for me! Back in 1973, seven year old me traded some Partridge Family trading cards, an erector set I found in the trash, and $1.45 for a rolling minibike frame, I then pushed it the five blocks home. I couldn't even ride a bicycle yet. My Dad laughed, but he saw how serious I was so we proceeded to strip it down, repaint it, and recover the seat over that whole summer, hoping to find a decent motor. It took a year, but my scoot was finally loaded with a 3 hp Briggs and ready to roll. I rode the wheels right off it until selling it to buy a used YZ80 Yamaha some time later. 😊

Back a few years, in the late oughts or the early 10's there was a small company in Scotts Valley, CA called Mini Bike World. They clearly liked mini bikes. So much so that they made their own, though it should probably be called a micro bike. It was styled after ones like yours and it was called The Flea. It was about half the size of a classic like yours and ran on nine inch Primo wheels. I worked at a local motorcycle shop which I shall not name due to personal differences. I was given the frames, forks, seats, wheels, brakes, and engines. The engines were 50cc "Clean burning." weed whacker engines. It was my job to order all of the necessary nuts, bolts and washers to put together the first, and I believe only, fifty Flea Micro Mini bikes. And I did so. The engines had bright orange covers, so I had my personal cover powder coated black to match my frame. It's the only all black bike in the run. Part of the job was stamping in the serial numbers. Mine, if I recall correctly, says "Big Bird Custom."

After decades of building drag bike engines, doing machine work, drag racing my own bikes I reached a point of burnout and stepped away. After about 15 years or so the bug started biting again but now the finances dictated a different approach. I started off fixing up a 1082 Honda XL185S. It was fun, and very practical for where I live. But it just didn't scratch that itch. Then a friend of mine asked if I knew anyone that would buy his Massimo Baja Warrior MB200 minibike. It's a big tire and large frame unit with telescopic hydraulic front forks but no rear suspension. It had a new Predator 212, a new "Torque Converter " CVT and new tires. His daughter rode it twice and said it was too rough riding. He wanted $300. I decided to get it. Initially it would go about 34 mph but would reach that speed very quickly. I modified a few things, played with sprockets, all stuff I could do for almost zero money, just knowledge. I got it up to 55 mph but sensed that was about the limit without spending some serious cash. Since I planed on 10-20 mile rides to a buddy's place on 2 lane black top (Farm to Market Roads) where the speed limit is 60-65 mph I knew this would not do at all. Then I lucked into a Briggs and Stratton 16 hp Vanguard Vtwin (479cc), traded for an old McCullough 2KW generator. With a few modifications (34mm D slide Mikuni, fabricated intake, 28lb valve springs, free flowing exhaust, mild port and polish work on the heads, and some sprocket changes) I now have a minibike that accelerates really hard, tops out st 80 mph, cruises comfortably at 65 for 20 miles or more, has a lot less vibration than the Predator 212cc, and so far has been extremely reliable. I've got almost 2.5 years riding it ( almost 4K miles) and it gets about 47 mpg if I keep it under 65 mph. I've collected 2 more chassis. I'm contemplating a 5 speed transmission installation since I already have the transmission. The cool thing about this type of project is that it was a cheap Chinese minibike that really wasn't worth as much as the engine, tires, and Torque Converter that were in it when I bought it so whatever I do to it, whatever happens to it I won't be destroying something that has real value or is a cool piece of history. If anyone is interested in seeing this minibike I have a 36 second video of me doing a smokey burnout and a high speed fly by on my TH-cam channel.

Damaged main (only) shaft so I commandeered an old B&S 2.5H Dad had "just laying around" Which in my youth I thought, "Motor's are all the same, right ?" Turns out this particular motor was off of his edger & produced 2500 Rpm. The braking system was a banding strap around a Teflon disk which never worked. That bike went 50 (after a long take off) & the same Flinstone's brakes. Slightly longer rake so mine was a chopper w/metal flake green paint w/obligatory monster bubble gum stickers. Wore out a lot of shoes that summer. In those days helmets were for people who owned helmets. -Rebel w/out a shoe

I'm still impressed a channel based on advertising a motorcycle store, that was already a class above on TH-cam, managed to successfully spotlight a different host. And not only that but build a weird story around him that makes no sense. And yet the channel is still somehow even better than before. You guys are awesome! I hope you have as much fun making this content as it looks. We certainly enjoy watching it

Can't recall your videographer/cinematographers name and he knows this, but this is stunning. The framing is just perfect, besides a few blown out highlights in the drone shots (amazing he even got all that), everything is just perfect, light and audio. I kinda hope the bear is stock though otherwise, it's just too crazy, haha.
I bet studio type people wouldn't believe this was a one man gig or at least a really tiny crew. They just don't know how much can be done when you travel light and know your stuff. That said, not everyone can do it, but man, you guys can.
I do hope you get to go shoot something really big and incredibly well paid some day. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd feel hamstrung;)

In the same way that Rob showed us all that cars are so often far greater than the sum of their parts, he showed us a man can be greater than the short time he draws breath. Thanks to this medium, his stories, his clearly earnest passion, can echo on with those like me; blessed to hear them without ever truly knowing the man. I am truly sad, and such can’t imagine what those closest to him are feeling.
    RIP Rabbit.

There is a legendary story from my country.
One day, an uncle riding a bike while carry a gunny sack trying to cross country. Policeman always stop the uncle while performing check, which can be thoroughly until at a level whereby the policeman need to stab the gunny sack with bayonet. The policeman couldnt find anything from it.
Long short story, when the policeman retired, he ask the uncle what he is trying smuggle to the other country by crossing the bridge. And guess what? The uncle heartly told the policeman, “I am smuggling the bike”
Moral of the story, step to become a mechanic, is indeed a person who can disassemble and reassemble bike. You become a better mechanic.
