The thing about him was he wasn’t a spot light hog. He allowed her to show off that gorgeous opera voice long enough before doing some kind of joke. He allowed her to shine. And she sure did.
Even with all of jokes, digressions, and interruptions, Borge accompanies her excellently. He does it so effortlessly that she can simply sing (which she does beautifully). Bravo!
My favorite line: You just said that! And the opera singer is incredible how she's able to keep her composure and sing like that while everyone else is laughing.
Victor Borge - A master at work! However, despite the comedy in the piece, he still allows her to shine and display her abilities. This routine is well rehearsed and made to look spontaneous. It *still* makes me laugh after many views. Thanks for posting!
O.M.G.! I ran across this by sheer chance. I remember - as a young-ling - I’m 58 years old, watching this on my parents black n white tv. Mr. Borge was hilarious back then and more so, today. We would benefit from his genius today now more than ever. I’m crying from all the laughing I’m doing as I did way back when.... Brilliant! Sheer Brilliance! My/Our lives were so much easier Bach them. It brings me such cool memories. R.I.P Mr. Borge. From a fan. 😊😊😊😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🥲.
avoir un tel talent sans avoir la grosse tête et exploiter le plus haut de la musique classique avec soit disant surprise mais sans la ridiculiser ...C'est hors normes et bien décontractant. Merci MONSIEUR BORGE
I just watched a much earlier version of this number with Victor and Marilyn, looking -- at a rough guess -- 20 years younger. Only half as long and about 1/5 as funny. These two plainly kept building and improving the routine through years of practice to the version shown here. The seat belt is just the last of a whole string of hysterical laughs.
For about 80 years Victor has done, not only his unique comedy, but he educated tens of thousands of people about classical music (just as Disney did in his own way). This would have been a new comedy genre today, recognized world wide, but I guess that since 1909 until today there was no person that could follow up his artistry (I do apologies in case that someone is doing this today, so please correct me if I'm wrong) or become his successor. This makes Mr Borge a one of a kind genius and artist who made the entire world laugh for something we've never seen before and we might never will again. That's how great he was.
I highly recommend checking out Peter Schickele’s work as PDQ Bach - it’s like this but with a Baroque focus. Iphigenia In Brooklyn and Pervertimento with Bagpipes Bicycle and Balloons are my favorites!
I saw this as part of a special on victor on PBS. First time I saw this exact bit I laughed for 20 minutes ..I'd stop and think of it and start laughing all over again..perfect timing..not a single bad word...absolutely genius
I really enjoyed the comedy. You are both completely amazing 😂 BRAVO ⚘ BRAVO ⚘ BRAVO ⚘ brilliant pianist - also Marilyn, the most beautiful breath control, and colour of voice. Singing like an angel. Keeping in tune perfectly every step of a difficult interrupted path. BRAVO Absolutely WONDERFUL ⚘⚘⚘⚘👏👏👏👏⚘⚘⚘⚘
Still watching in 2024: Simply brilliant!!

Sadly he really died on a heart problem, Rest In Peace Master of Real Comedy.
Too much female opera singers in his life 😂
Is he Victor Borge?
He was 91. That's a fine age I think
So his heart slowed to a beat... Bump bump bump rest. And he fell off the piano
@@rasmusfabernrgaard6461 91? Damn that his best score !!! I don't know i Will beat that or not 🤣🤣🤣🤣

2:19 She scared the SOUL out of him😂😂😂
The tuning joke was so underrated
Oh you don't tune? 😂
Can you explain the tuning joke?
@@jdapaul1351 As a pianist it’s expected that you play a tuning note so the soloist can tune to the piano before performing but vocalists don’t tune
@@sebastianboeddinghaus3505 I get it now. Thanks.
How on Earth does she keep a straight face while she's singing? That's amazing in itself.
THAT! Is the million dollar question (smile)
check earlier recordings of this performance - when she was younger she was laughing all the time^

The lady is great, she doesn't miss a note and didn't lose her composure,
Marilyn Mulvey has a wonderful voice!!
His voice is not bad either.
Yet only known for singing together with Borge
There are NO videos of her on her own....
@@jakeforrest There is a video of her singing Juliette’s Waltz song
Janet Flier You have a link? I couldn’t find it...

This is great!
That is...as long as she doesn't touch his Piano! 😁😁😁
Victor is a remarkable pianist and comedian and his ability to make us laugh is just what will heal this troubled world!!! Thank you, Victor!!!

I've often tried to listen to the Caro Nome performed "properly" but I've never managed not to dissolve into fits of laughter.
When I was a young girl my father got me hooked on the performance of Victor Borge!!
Those seat belts get me everytime.

Rest In Peace, master pianist and comedian.🥲
She was seriously trying to keep a straight face.
The “aaaahh shut up” 😂 it sounds like an old uncle listening to one of your parents or other relatives stories ahahahaha RIP musician Legend ❤️
When this ovation has died down
Translation: when I regain the ability to breath
That extraordinary voice contrasts sharply with this comedy routine -- which these two performed, perfected starting at least in 1970.
The Champ of all the Champs. KENT VOGEL A.S.C.A.P WBD
This was a superb performance.
When he gives her tuning pitches I lose my shit every time
Can i get a bucket and a mop for you?😂🤣

What did he say? "We have an agreement, she doesn't touch my piano, I don't touch her...?"
Gibberish for Caro nome
Coloratura. It’s the name for a voice type that can easily sing complex vocal runs.

At 7:32 what's the thing he throws away? I can't see well.
There's a seat belt that he pulls out of the piano bench and fastens before the song finishes
