Just reflecting on this video, and how it has 1.5M views now.
    I never saw that coming.
The video is like some wonderful time machine, complete with VHS imperfections. I am so glad i shared it.
Obviously i do not profit from it, nor should i. But it warms my heart in sharing the wealth of his brilliant humour.
A little time capsule for us all.
    Peace.

I had the privilege of seeing Victor Borge in South Africa more than 50 years ago. I was then too young to appreciate his brilliance and so enjoyed him only at face value. Over the years I HAVE listened to his records and just a year ago I introduced my family to his brilliance. An amazing entertainer with an incredible sense of humour and musical timing.

I had the privilege of tuning the piano for Mr. Borge at the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center. I went out into the hallway to find my wife, and heard a rattling at the door. I opened it, and there he was in a tuxedo and a baseball cap. I said, "Mr. Borge, I'm your piano technician." He replied, "Oh, I'm sorry. I made you work!" That delightful, kind man was as funny off stage as he was on stage.

Ive watched this several times over the last year. It nurtures me and reassures me of a better time. Those truly we the fun years and a life was really more simple. Yes there were those who suffered horrible discrimination, and many healing medicines hadn't been developed yet, but Sunday night was the night when my generation turned on the black and white television and watched the best talents ever. They truly paved the way for every generation to follow but will never duplicate... Its too bad so many young people will never know and cannot imagine how important performances like this were to us, thrilled us, and made us laugh.

That's why we grow old and die. We're in the way of progress, be it good or bad. I can not help comparing it to not having interest in, and knowing what it was like to endure an Indian attack while trying to move into an untamed west. Still, it seems more and more important to me that we should be able to somehow be able to recall and experience viscerally, without the benefit of knowing the future, to be able to experience the agony and the wonders of the past. It would frighten me to be transported to a mideival time to witness the struggle and hardship they endured but, if science ever figures out how to transport us to anyplace in the past that we want, I'm sure it would help to put things in better perspective, and put humanity on a much better coarse.😮

There was only one Victor Borge. I had the privilege of seeing him in a live performance in St.John's, Nfld in the '70s. He was such a talented comedic performer, but let's not forget the fact that he was an amazingly accomplished concert pianist as well.

I saw him with my sons in Sarasota Florida in 1993 or 94. He was at the Van Wezel...they had to add seats on the stage to get more people in. My family and I were fortunate to sit in the front row on stage! He talked to my 8 yo son and joked around with us! He was Fabulous! At intermission people thought we were part of the act! I tried to find a video of that to no avail! Wish there had been cameras on phones back then! Victor Borge was theGreat Dane....and the greatest entertainer of all!! God rest his soul!

Thank you to all who have commented on the joy this video has brought to you. I took this from a video cassette my parents got when I was a Child. I thought it a worthy addition to the “archives of the internet” for others to enjoy. Seems to me he had a beautiful innocent irreverent quality to the logic of his performance, and he was truly a performer, these qualities perhaps a factor to his timeless appeal. I grew up on the BBC’s Goon Shows, an influence from my uncle. I find the comedy similar to that of Spike Milligan, Peter Sellars and Harry Seacombe - Truly amongst the original greats of comedy, whose jokes have been retold in various ways since, but originated by them. 😊

I met him, brought him a glass of water; he was SO easy to talk to, a real gentleman. That must have been my first encounter with a celebrity; it was so exciting for a 21 year old. I will always remember that. RIP.

Think what is really amazing about Mr. Borge is this incredible ability to process complicated music and at the same time have another part of his brain be doing the comedic part.
Most people would just be happy to play a complex piece of music and all their effort and focus would be singularly directed at it.
Imagine being so talented at the piano, that it’s almost “an afterthought” to him
