This is awesome! Easiest way to get the most out of gopro. Thanks for that! Would you also share with us your editing process one day? Im interested to see that, too
Hello! i'm going to snorkel in Maldives in few weeks and I just got my first GoPro H12 with max lens 2.0 Mod. Do you recommend this lens to film underwater or should I just go with the stock one ? Also, should I prioritize high FPS againt image quality to get beautiful slow motion ? I'll be recording only vertically to post on social medias like instagram so I don't really matter about 2K or 4K quality The highest FPS setting I found was 100FPS at 1080P
That’s exciting…the highest fps is 240 frames per second and you do have to down res to 2.7k…I think it looks great though As far as the lens mod, that will give you horizon leveling with the ability to shoot wide as opposed to just being confined to linear and it will look really stable like it is on a gimbal….i have used these underwater and they work great, you do have to get a special housing to fit it though, you can go without the housing but be sure to rinse your GoPro thoroughly after using it in the saltwater….i would always recommend using the housing, enjoy the trip!
Thanks for this video! I'm a complete newbie, and I followed to a T. However when I put the bit rate high, it about halved my hours left of storage on my SD card. From what I researched, high bitrate is good when there's a ton of movement and action. Underwater, I wonder if standard is sufficient (to achieve double the storage space)? What do you think? Thanks again!
Hi Scott, thanks for the super helpful video! Got to try my GoPro with your settings today. Got a question, what do you use for post processing? Als, my attempt to take nudi branches met with terrible blur. Is half decent macro possible at all with GoPro? How to them focused?
thank you for the great video just got my GoPro 12 i didn't understand how you switch mods during a dive the camera is in the case, i couldn't find an explanation of how the mode button changes video mods and tomorrow I take the kid for her first intro dive. can you explain or there is no such option and I need to decide in advance what mod to use
No worries, you can change modes by pressing the side button and the shutter button simultaneously, you can see a more detailed explanation on my GoPro 11 video…good luck!
Hi Scott, this was a big help. We are new to the gopro, and just recently bought a hero12. My wife took it snorkeling on a bareboat charter out of la Paz, mexico, and all of the videos were pixelating and not very clear. Now that we are back in network coverage, I am trying to discover how to do this better before our next trip. Also, what do you recommend for postprocessing SW? And is the premium editing subscription on the Quik app worth getting?
Hi Scott! Great guide. What are your views on 4K/120FPS? I was experimenting with that (instead of 2.7K/240 or 4K/60) and thinking it's a good balance between frame rate and resolution: as I can slow down to 4x to get slomo, or just skip frames in post to have a realtime normal video from a single preset. But I'm not sure if it's a good "nice for both worlds" setting or a terrible compromise of quality. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
thanks for the question! 4k120 works great but it depends on what the right tool is for the job! If you really want to slow things down then shooting in 2.7K is a necessary sacrifice in resolution. Keep in mind that 2.7k vs 4k is resolution not necessarily quality and most people won’t even be able to see that resolution on the display screen they are watching from…good luck on your videos!
I watched already couple of your videos. Very informative and very helpful because I just unboxed my GoPro today and did not know where to start with… 🙈 I think I know what I need to do now. 2 questions I have if I may. ☝🏼🙄 1. Can I see a live preview with the quick App while filming? 2. Din you use your GoPro in a water protection case while scuba diving?
Thank you! Yes you can get a live view with the hero 12 while filming…also I was using the underwater housing, i recommend using it even when you are staying shallow because it protects your camera from corrosion….good luck with the new GoPro!
You don't. Got to take the case off. Outside the water of course. Ok, one meter below the water level it should be ok too, but then you risk the gopro dropping to the bottom of the water.
You want to use both…just set up a profile for each and cycle between the two on your dive, there is a way you can do this by clicking the side button and the top bottom at the same time…then it allows you to cycle between the different profiles
This is so that you can have two different perspectives to shoot with that you can edit into a video sequence. For example you would first get a wide shot of the scene, then you can get tighter shots (linear) of different details in the scene….maybe a wide shot of a grouper in his environment then a tighter portrait style shot of his face…
@@scottbauerbelow @scottbauerbelow Hello, yes I understand. What I am wondering is the first preset: 4k/16:9/W/auto boost on/EV -0.5/iso100:800. On the second preset are you also using these exact settings and only changing the W to L+? Or are you starting with gopros base and only changing W to L+, which would leave fr at 30, EV at 0, iso at 100/1600 etc... Sorry for the confusing question. Just want to make sure I get these settings correct.
Hi am getting a gopro within the next month - my first one which i’ll be using for diving, snorkelling and also POV work content (i’m a landscaper) - what would you recommend for a first time buyer? the 11 or the 12? I think the 12 is currently only £20 more, but I read many things saying the 11 was better, but whether that was just in terms of people upgrading i’m not sure
I think if you are starting from scratch I would go with the DJI over the GoPro…I choose to keep the hero 12 because the difference isn’t big enough to justify leaving behind the whole GoPro ecosystem behind (batteries, chargers, housings, ect…) and there are a few things I like better about the GoPro
It is good to go out of the box but salt water is corrosive and will eventually damage your GoPro, I would recommend to use the housing….enjoy your trip!
@scottbauerbelow Thank you. I've ordered one that comes with add on filters. If I hadn't have watched you're video I wouldn't have known adding red colour balance or a filter will make the colours pop underwater more.
Hey I hope you see this, I saw your video and bought the GoPro, I followed tour set up video and this for my upcoming dive. Buy while setting it up my GoPro doesn't have the same settings as yours I can't put shutter at 1/480 only 1/400 or 1/800 Framarate only 200 not 240 for slow, and 50 not 60 on the second customisation. Any help would be appreciated
Something weird happend, after making the comment it all turned itself into as in your video, I think the GoPro didn't fully accept the 10 bit setting... Also slow motion setring in the customize tab says 8 bit bit can be 10 bit if I'm doing 4k
Sir can I ask why when I upload my video to facebook its pixelated? But others can upload looking like 1080p or even 4k.. is there a trick out there on how to upload to social media? Thanks
It’s hard to say…if you are exporting from premiere then you can select a preset specifically for Facebook 4k but it is hard to say why with out seeing your workflow
I don’t believe so….i used to do alot of that sort of POV style recording and at those settings, you may get 1.5 hours…it’s best to have two GoPros ready to go and you simply change them out when one dies…or be prepared to take it out of the housing and change the battery
I jumped up from the Hero 7 Black to the 12 Black. Big changes! Thanks for the tips. Can I ask what program you use for post processing? The old program I am using is totally outdated. I need to update it to something new, like I did the GoPro.
I had the Osmo four but my God the application with the iPhone very bad to watch the videos I had to do a trick but it was still very uncomfortable. I had to return it and I took the GoPro 12 Black.
I still have the hero 5 and I still dont know everything. Sometimes when there are SO MANY FEATURES on a camera it can become OVERWHELMING to a NEW customer, even intimidating. I know I am not the only one who wonders why they need all those features? Which is why i will stay with my Hero 5 and Hero 360 camera
I agree with you about the other features, I would encourage you to try the newer GoPros hero 11’s or hero 12s and you will notice a dramatic difference in your image quality….especially with white balance and color underwater
@@scottbauerbelow not sure if it's my timing, but both buttons together don't do it. However, press & hold power, then hit the shutter does it every time for me.
Looking at my snorkeling videos after a trip and they all have the same problem as soon as I start shooting underwater with my new GoPro Hero 10 - crackling sound, not the popping problem I have heard about (unrelated to underwater video) but a steady crackling underwater that is distracting. I don't hear this in the few GoPro underwater videos on TH-cam that don't have music. Is there a setting I need to change? Any info you can share? Thanks!
Interesting…..you may want to check the battery door to make sure it’s not leaking….i think that was causing some issues on my 9 where I was getting crackling….also, coral reefshave a crackling noise as well when they are healthy just in case you are hearing that ; )
